When uploading updated sims, you should add the date of update to the folder name of the sim to avoid Stepmanias tendemcy to keep the old charts/data from the older file if its replaced with a more up to date version(banner, bg and mp3 get replaced, but the information from the new dwi or SM files don't seem to update in stepmania, even if the)

Hmmm, it should update, if you go into Options and Reload Songs/Courses again.
When you start StepMania it just checks for existence and not changes to the DWI/SM files, when you do it through options it checks changes too.
