Hey everyone! I had a thread asking if I should get DDRX or SN2JP, and which one I should get. I decided to get both!

Now, What I need help with, is playing SN2JP. Sinec I have a PS2 from Canada, would I need swap magic to play SN2JP? I need to know this, because if I buy SN2JP and it doesn't sork, and that's the reason, then I need to know it.

Yes, but you most likely need more than Swap Magic to play it. You'll need to get a modchip, fliptop, or some other method of modding for your PS2.

I have a slim PS2, so I'm guessing either a slim cover or magic switch?

You're going to need the Swap Magic Disc no matter what, make sure it's for NTSC unless your PS2 is PAL-designated.

Then you will need the MagicKeys, which you're going to have to make SURE are the right ones for your PS2. If you have an older Slim, the keys are different than a newer slim or the White Ceramic ones.

It is possible to play imports now without a mod chip and without swapping. There has for a while been a product called Memor32, which, when you install something called Memento firmware on it, is able to play backup discs, including backups of import games, that are patched with a provided patching tool to make them look like a DVD. You can rip your own discs with ImgBurn and then patch them with the patching tool, then burn to a DVD. The Memor32 has a USB port on it which makes it easy to install the firmware. You can also use it to backup/restore game saves.

The only problem is that the Memor32 costs $70 or some such price, and the Memento team has disappeared, but at least you don't need to open your PS2 and I can verify that it works perfectly with DDR games. Also there is now a homebrew called ESR which can be installed on a standard Sony PS2 memory card (or on a Memor32) and can run the same patched backups. Moreover, it provides better compatibility (although from my experience, all the DDR games work fine with Memento). Currently getting ESR installed and running will require some research and work on your part, but in the end you'll be able to play your imports without swapping.

Another option, and really this is the one I'd recommend, is to sell your slim PS2 and buy a fat PS2, a network adapter and install an HDD in it. Use WinHIIP to format the drive and install your games onto it. Use a memory card exploit (installed with Codebreaker or Action Replay) to run HD Loader. Some games require certain options to be set - there are web sites that list those requirements. Not only will this let you run imports, it will also greatly reduce the load times of games, which is especially nice for DDR games. Also you have all your games in the HD Loader menu (and the menu works fine with a DDR dance pad - up/down arrows to select, press X to start the game.) I highly recommended it, though you still have to do a little research to learn how to get it working. That's what I'm using and I love it.
