I went to download some of the older DDR arcade mixes the other day and noticed that some (like DDR 2nd Mix Arcade) has (most) the charts rated with the new 20 scale difficulty rating instead of the original (legacy) 10 difficulty rating. It seems like any song that was later released on a "modern" DDR version with the new rating scale, has the new scale rating. But these charts are intermixed into older mixes that used the old legacy scale. So you can have half the songs in a pack using the legacy rating system and half using the modern one. This is confusing and makes batch/mass corrections difficult.

A good example of the mismatch is in DDR 3rd mix, where about 1/4 the charts have the new rating, but most are legacy.

Is there an easy way to get the arcade simfile packs with all of the same difficulty scale?

Yeah it’s a mess. You would have to rerate the older songs if you want that, I don’t think anyone has released a pack doing that. Itgpacks.com has DDR for ITG packs that are all rerated to the ITG scale, very similar to the legacy DDR scale but not quite the same. The old DDRUK simfile page that has the original packs from way back when seems to be gone now, which is sad.

Sadly, the links here (for those packs specifically) also seem to be broken.

I prefer to load custom level ratings from lua tables rather than having to modify the sm files. It's up to the themers how to implement that. There is a tool to convert old to new ratings by teleshoes and make those lua tables to load for StepMania themes.

How does that work? Wouldn’t it change the rating for every song, including ones already on the modern/X scale? Like what stops it from grabbing a 9 on the X scale and making it a 12 or whatever like it would for a 9 on the old scale?

You only put sm/ssc files with old ratings you want to convert to X-ratings, then you run a batch script that uses a python script to do it. Apparently, it's only for linux (you can run linux emulator in Android, or bluestack for Windows with it). You copy the tables inside a song group table array and use them via lua function for MeterRating. MeterRatings function returns the original meter ratings if the steps doesn't have custom ratings for that steps.

This is an example I used in UserLand app (Linux emulator for Android). The result can be different from the actual but at least it's still useful in case you're curious how they rate.

OP, did you ever find the DDR:uk bumper packs? Cuz I know they're somewhere online, and if not, the wayback machine is a good option too. I'd offer them to you (cuz I have them) but I don't have storage space to host them anywhere.

Actually, I do have the old DDR UK packs on my hard drive. The reason for my original post was because I now have Groovestats enabled on my cab and noticed a LOT of charts just aren't being played by anyone but me. This is because the new GS tracker will track any song (which is cool), but in order for it to be "fair", it won't count the same song if the stepchart deviates too much from another. Example; My chart of "SONG X" from DDRUK might have a BPM of 150.01, but the ZIV stepchart of the same song has a BPM of 150.00, then GS will count and track these two songs as separate rankings.

This bums me out, because most of the community is getting their "official" packs from ZIV these days, so I figured I would update my song packs to the latest versions found here, but was taken aback when I found out a lot of them have mixed difficulty ratings (as mentioned in my OP).

I was hoping that by now there would've been a standard implemented into SM files where you could specify legacy and modern rating systems simultaneously and let the Theme choose which one to display, based on the users' preferences. But, I'm getting ahead of myself.

TL;DR = I got the DDR UK packs and they work fine, but almost nobody else uses these, so it's not great if you want to chase scores with other people using GrooveStats. Dead

Yeah like I said previously you want the DDR for ITG packs from ITG packs.com. They’re the simfiles from here re-rated to ITG scale so some songs that were officially 8s old scale rate to 9 based on new scale ratings and other discrepancies from the old official ratings but that’s what most ITG players are using now. Someone else posted a direct link to them in the thread so they shouldn’t be hard to find.

So, the only other option you have is... changing the difficulty yourself. Again, I have done all that already with everything pre-supernova. I'm just a little hesitant to share my files because my SMs have their offset adjusted. You'd still have to go through each file one by one to edit their offset anyway. My entire stepmania folder is almost 60 gigs, and I have no idea where to host something like that anyway. Obviously zipping each mix and uploading them somewhere I mean.

Yeah, I'm good. I'll stick with what I have. Over the years I have customized my DDR charts quite a bit so that they have proper BG video callouts and stuff. Losing all that, or having to rebuild it, would be a royal PITA.

I just wish ZiV had some way to download legacy vs modern ratings of these charts. Or, better yet, if modern games would allow both and have a tag in the stepchart itself that let BOTH difficulties be present and the theme/user preference would simply display whichever was desired.

No, I totally get you. When I changed all the songs back to legacy ratings, I lost alot of records. I have been able to beat those old records since then but it really is a pain in the ass as you said.

I just realized that this download has background videos for the early DDR charts (1st and 2nd Mix)! This is a holy-grail quest of mine is to find out how to take all the RandomMovie callouts I have for a lot of my DDR charts and export them to standalone BG videos to include in each song...

But somehow this dude already did it, lol.

It's not perfect, as it's missing some songs and later mixes don't have videos. I'd love to help complete this by providing BG videos, but I need to know how they did it without using RandomMovie callouts.

MissingUTAH, I don't know if you're the one who made this pack, or if you just linked it. But I would LOVE to find out how they processed clean versions of the videos that they made for these songs!

Or, if someone knows of another thread here on ZiV related to this topic, please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

DDR for ITG uses the simfiles from here, just changing the ratings and fixing the offset for ITG. Any videos in it are part of the downloads here. 1st and 2ndMIX songs should have their X3 vs 2ndMIX videos used in 2ndMIX mode, the person who made DDR for ITG didn't convert scripts to single videos Konami did. There is a text file read me in the google docs link that explains what the downloads are.

Yes, I realize that now. Thanks for shedding some light on this.

P.S. On a related note, I tried to download the DDR SuperNOVA BG videos and the file downloads, but the ZIP is corrupted or something and it won't let me extract it. I tried downloading it 3 times.

It's the link at the bottom of this page:

Anyone else having trouble with this?

Honestly, those ZIP files aren't necessary anymore, as all songs' background videos are directly included within the simfiles and their corresponding pack downloads. I'm surprised we haven't gotten around to removing them, yet.
