If I want to play Doubles on pad, can I buy two pads separately (my computer has two USB ports), or do I need two that are bundled together?

It works just fine to hook two pads into two different ports.
The problem is keeping the things from separating while you play.

If they're the soft mats that come in a Bundle with the game, you would have to go through some serious modding so that they don't slide apart.
I have two Ignition pads and I put weights on each side so that they don't move as much as they would.
Yes that is a crap mod of mine, but I really don't play as often as I used to so I'm fine with the weights on each end.
