For my third simfile project, DDR MASSIVE MANIA, I am holding three music contests in the same vein as SOUND VOLTEX FLOOR. Here is the first of them: the Genre Fusion Contest!

In this contest, I have chosen 60 different musical genres and assigned them into one of 30 pairs. The genre pairings, for the most part, are polar opposites. Some of them are closely related, but not very common when fused together. Your job is to create an original track that fuses both genres in each pair. The 30 pairs, along with my reasoning for pairing them, are as follows:

80s pop + grunge (No specific reason.)
90s hip-hop + Mongolian throat singing (You'd think this pair would be more common, since they sampled pretty much anything back in the 90s. But I don't recall any 90s hip-hop song that samples Mongolian throat singing. So, why not make one now, 30-some years later?)
90s R&B + speed metal (The juxtaposition between slow and smooth 90s R&B and fast and intense speed metal sounded cool to me.)
acapella + opera (Another one you'd think would be more common, since they both involve the human voice. But every operatic piece I know of has some form of musical accompaniment at all times.)
Afrobeat + Hungarian gypsy[b] (Both are musically complex genres in their own ways. Afrobeat is predominantly percussive and in 4/4 time, while Hungarian gypsy is more melodic and in exotic scales and odd time signatures. So, I'd love to see how these two complex genres meld together.)
[b]bachata + shoegaze
(No specific reason.)
bluegrass + yacht rock (The same slow/fast juxtaposition thing.)
bossa nova + didgeridoo (Yes, I know didgeridoo isn't technically a genre, but I don't know how to describe the genre didgeridoos are associated with. As far as my reasoning for this pairing, I just thought it's be fun to hear a bossa nova track with a didgeridoo. Cool)
Broadway + dubstep (I originally had Broadway paired up with Celtic, but that pairing's been done before with the musical Come from Away. So, I went with the next obvious polar opposite: dubstep.)
Celtic + Bollywood (See above.)
classical piano + military cadence (The juxtaposition between the rubato heard in classical piano and the steady beat of a military cadence seemed like a good pairing.)
disco + rockabilly (Same fast/slow juxtaposition.)
drum & bass + Gregorian chant (Same basic reasoning as 90s hip-hop/Mongolian throat singing.)
flamenco + juke/footwork (Both genres are heavily syncopated. But the juxtaposition between the simple syncopation of flamenco and the wonky syncopation of juke/footwork was why I paired them together.)
gospel choir + dancehall rap (This one is more for my own personal amusement.)
hardstyle + dirge (Fast/slow juxtaposition once again.)
jazz + death metal (This was the pairing that inspired this whole contest in the first place. And yes, I know it's been done before. But I just want to hear both at the same time instead of one transitioning into the other back and forth.)
lo-fi hip-hop + klezmer (Same fast/slow juxtaposition once again.)
mariachi + K-pop (The thought of two different cultures coming together was a cool idea.)
math rock + punk rock (While these are obviously both subgenres of rock music, I paired them together because of the whole polar opposite concept. Math rock uses odd time signatures, complex chord progressions, alternate guitar tunings [namely FACGCE] and clean tones, while punk rock uses 4/4, simple chords, standard guitar tuning [or half-step down] and distorted tones. I just want to see how they'd work together.)
Motown + enka (Same basic contradicting cultures idea.)
nu metal + waltz (No specific reasoning for this one.)
polka + Ibiza house (No specific reasoning for this one, either.)
reggae + screamo (Another one that's more for my own personal amusement.)
salsa + eurobeat (Another fast/slow juxtaposition thing going on here.)
ska + doom metal (Yet another fast/slow juxtaposition.)
trap + symphonic metal (This one is another one for my own personal amusement.)
trance + blues rock (No specific reasoning here.)
tribal drums + string quartet (Personal amusement again.)
UK hardcore + outlaw country (There's no specific reasoning here.)

If you should choose to participate in this contest, please keep the song between 1:30 and 2:30 in length. Please send me your track via PM, and also indicate the pairing that you selected in said PM. This will be done on a first come, first serve basis. I am not giving you any deadlines as far as timing. This post will be updated once I have received and approved each submission.

And finally, while not required, you can also create graphics and stepcharts for your tracks. You will receive credit for everything you create in my simfile category.

Good luck to all, and I look forward to hearing what y'all come up with!

*sigh*

I'm...not really sure what you're trying to accomplish here? Aside from the fact that you're asking for, alongside this thread, 50 DDR song remixes (also picked by you) and a large number of original compositions, these genre mashups are batshit insane if you want any level of quality to go into these compositions beyond them being MIDI shitposts. Just to pick on a few of these:

Quote
90s hip-hop + Mongolian throat singing

So you expect someone to either a) know Mongolian throat singing, or b) know a Mongolian throat singer?

Quote
acapella + opera

How would this work, exactly? Operatic singing is designed to be accompanied by an orchestra. And again, are you looking for a TRAINED OPERA SINGER in the DDR community, or someone who knows a trained opera singer, to perform what is essentially a shitpost?

Quote
bossa nova + didgeridoo

?????????????

Quote
Broadway + dubstep

Again, you are asking for a trained singer, and a musical-style composition, both of which are incredibly labor intensive and absolutely will not mash up with dubstep, of all genres.

Quote
drum & bass + Gregorian chant

Am I supposed to go find some monks to help me out with this one?

Quote
gospel choir + dancehall rap (This one is more for my own personal amusement.)
reggae + screamo (Another one that's more for my own personal amusement.)
trap + symphonic metal (This one is another one for my own personal amusement.)

These are the main ones that actually anger me. People are not going to put in the effort to create shitposts for you for your own "personal amusement." You are giving people no money, little to no exposure, and no real incentive to create something solely designed to make you laugh. That's not okay -- art takes a long time to make. To dictate the terms of the art that you want people to make for free is one thing, but to openly admit that it is only designed to make you laugh is another entirely.

If you want my honest opinion, I would scale down the scope of these requests to solely be original songs created by the community, without the terms of said songs dictated by your own personal fantasies. This is one of the most goddamn insane things I've seen on this forum, and I watched the Paddington Bear saga in real time.

You know, I never really thought about this accomplishing something. I just wanted to be bold with the types of music that I'd make steps for.

Sampling of Mongolian throat singing is allowed, as long as the source is in the public domain.

Sampling of operatic works is allowed, as long as the source is in the public domain.

Sampling of didgeridoos is allowed, as long as the source is in the public domain.

Quote
Broadway + dubstep

It doesn't have to work well, it just has to work. And also, I'm not necessarily asking for any musical training. I'm just asking for the essence of the genre.

Quote
drum & bass + Gregorian chant

Am I supposed to go find some monks to help me out with this one?

Once again, sampling is allowed as long as the source is in the public domain.

Quote

trap + symphonic metal (This one is another one for my own personal amusement.)

I don't necessarily want these ones to make me laugh. But at the same time, I don't know how else to word things...

I do appreciate the fact that you took time out of your day to voice your concerns. Believe me, if I was a musician, I'd probably make a lot, if not all, of these tracks myself. But at the end of the day, I'm just the host of this contest. And honestly, even if I get nothing but shitposts, I'll still take them. Music taste is subjective, and my music taste is pretty much an open book.

... first of all, Zenius -I- Mania 2022 released less than a week ago... I'm pretty sure the people that do make original music are burned out at this moment in time.

OK, but I didn't give amy deadlines for this contest. Same with the other two.
