"PLACE YOUR BET!!"
DDR Extreme saved my life. It was one of the first rhythm games I dedicated to and made a lot of friends with. There was a dark time in my life where I thought about ending it all because of the endless bullying I faced in school and having no friends. I decided against it and got out of my house and my rut, and went to play video games at a local arcade called Funstation. I met some really cool people along the way and made a crap ton of memories and they helped me through my dark times where I thought nobody would ever like me for me. I'm very grateful for rhythm games in general, but specially thankful for DDR Extreme for bringing great people together and giving me my life back.BeginnerLightStandardHeavyChallengeVery Happy

Regardless of what anyone’s personal favorite DDR game is, Extreme is the reason we are all here right now. It’s the reason DDR ever got as big as it was, it is to this franchise what MvC2 is to Marvel vs Capcom, what Mortal Kombat 9 is to Mortal Kombat. It seems wild to me that Konami isn’t doing anything for it. Release a song pack for Grand Prix, bring back Kind Lady, just do something man.

I have had my theme set to Extreme since I knew you could change it. I remember buying the DDR Extreme OST and being dissapointed that it didn't have literally every song on the cabinet on the disk. I was specifically looking for Wild Rush and A. I also purchased the Party Collection OST the same day because I didn't know what it was, and really got excited about Paranoia Respect, and wanted to play it really badly.

DDR Extreme is absolutely the game I have played the most, and I really am blown away its 20 years old now. I remember back when I was always looking for any cabinet other than an extreme, and now its almost the opposite. I always get excited when I see a good working extreme cabinet anywhere.

So many of my favorite DDR memories come from playing, and listening to music from DDR Extreme. Downloaded all of my favorite songs off of Limewire before discovering simfile sites lol. There's an ancient Extreme cab in my city that I can play the classics (Speed Over Beethoven, Irresistiblement, Cartoon Heroes) on.

I am making my first-ever post to this site for the purpose of saying that DDR EXTREME is quite awesome. Christmas Day will mark 8 years since I first got my copy of its Japanese PS2 version as a present and got so happy from playing it for the first time that I started crying halfway through Happy Wedding. It is still one of my most cherished possessions to this day!

Damn DDR Extreme is turning 20? thats huge. I remember crying when playing JP EX at the credits because i thought it was the last one to ever come out. Then all of a sudden DDR SuperNova was announced. (It completely missed the mark, still a DDR Game though..) but yeah. I was young. I was gullible i guess. Great to see its still recognized today.

EXTREME holds a very special place in my heart, I had gone on holiday in 2003 and saw a 5th Mix and it was my first encounter with "DDR" that wasn't a Dancing Stage game. Then in 2005 we took a trip to Great Yarmouth and there was a DDR EXTREME sitting inside a holiday camp, in a way, along with it's side pops showing off some new music to the game, and the whole "We're starting over" tagline. It kind of felt like a return to DDR but I was confused seeing the 8th game and never seeing the 6th and 7th installments.

I remember coming home from that holiday with Xenon, V, Sync & Speedover Beethoven stuck in my head, and the thoughts of embarassment when 2 girls wanted to change difficulty so I helped them, but picked the wrong difficulty because Standard on EXTREME was not the same difficulty as Standard on a Euromix 2. I think EXTREME peaked with song selection back then, they were bringing in more IIDX crossovers, the Dancemania franchise was still going too and we had some fun happy hardcore tracks, and NAOKI was in his prime with Vanity Angel, LOM and PSM.

Whenever I see an EXTREME now, they seem to have massive TV's attached to the front of the cabinet haha, but I will spend a bit of money because R3 doubles is really fun Big Grin

To think tomorrow will be the 20th anniversary since the magnum opus of Dance Dance Revolution officially launched in Japanese arcades.

While I wasn't introduced to the series with this game, I absolutely adore the arcade and console releases. Between the massive amount of songs in the arcade version and how much content Konami managed to fit in the console version, DDR EXTREME will forever be one of my all-time favorite entries in the series.

If anyone could confirm whether or not the characters from 1stMIX to 5thMIX were going to be featured in the arcade version, I would appreciate that. I would have LOVED to be able to choose from one of, if not the, largest selections of dancers in the series. But hey, beggars can't be choosers, am I right?

Long story short, DDR EXTREME is one of the games that further changed my life for the better ever since I introduced myself to the series 15 years ago, and it deserves all the praise it's been getting since its launch and then some.

No, no characters were in the arcade version at all. I think MAX2 USA, Extreme JP, and Party Collection were the only songs with that type of interface that had them.

Also the PS2 version didn’t manage to squeeze in much. It was like 1.2gb I think and a DVD holds over 4gb. But also it would be unreasonable to expect all the prior licenses to be present. It was still a generous offering regardless.

DDR EXTREME is my favorite DDR mix of all time. What really sells me out is the fact that there's at least one revived license per mix, including DDR Solo. I used to have a playlist of all full versions of the licenses (though it included the boring full versions, namely Let's Groove, Lovin' You, So Deep and Twilight Zone) and would listen to them all the time during my college days.

When DDR SuperNOVA appeared, I had to go to far away places to play DDR EXTREME since my nearest arcade removed it. Just love the game that much. Beware's awesome for making an accurate Stepmania out of it.

I'm glad DDR EXTREME still has small tourneys to this day. This tourney was played when DDR A was already around.

Oh and for added irony, my favorite feature of any video game are the playable characters. The arcade version of DDR EXTREME doesn't have any.

Happy 20th, DDR Extreme! I’m really fortunate to be within driving distance of an Extreme with Pristine pads. I’m going to go play within the next few days.

I’m glad that the longevity of the game has spanned several generations, and, as DarkFeline already said, still sees tournament play to this day.

I couldn’t imagine what the hype was like when it came out. A big step up from Max2. It’s really amazing how they managed to push the system 573 to the limits with the amount of content.

With that said, since the game officially came out in Japan only, I can’t imagine that North American arcades got it up and running right away (not to mention, being closed for the holidays). I wonder what the first day was for Extreme being available here? I also wonder what the dates were for each unlock code being revealed.

Up until a few years ago, DDR Extreme was probably the easiest DDR arcade mix to find, at least around here. Any old mall that still had an arcade in it, had this mix specifically. Any small standalone arcade or pizza place that had old arcade games, had this mix specifically. Wild that they were all bootlegs, too. This mix really was peak popularity for DDR. This was the first arcade DDR I played, but I actually barely got any chances to, and have much more fond memories towards SuperNOVA.

It's not my favorite of the 573 era mixes, but it's definitely the one I had the most exposure to since there was a time where pretty much every arcade had one. So many people I'm still friends with now are people I met through playing DDR Extreme. And like saibot said, it's the reason many of us are here now. I will always cherish it for those reasons and for how much it helped me with socializing early on when that was a major struggle for me.

Ah yes, DDR EXTREME. This was an era of time where I saw people do freestyles on Dynamite Rave and also where I saw other people blow my mind getting a full combo on Max 300 Heavy.

This was also an era of time where, once upon a time, Paranoia Survivor Max Challenge was the hardest DDR song back when EXTREME was the latest game.
How you doin' Lord Toon? Thanks for the banner.
