So I followed this guide here:

to try and set up a Suica card on my iPhone for use as an eAmuse pass, but it doesn't seem to be working. I've got the VPN set to Japan, and I can go through the app and get to the Apple Pay part, but when I try to proceed, it just gives an error:
クレジットカードの認証に失敗しまた
"credit card verification failed"
every time I try to add 1000 yen to the card. Apple Pay has worked fine for everything else so I know that's not the issue. Has anyone else run into this? No idea how to fix it. Do I need a Japanese credit card too? I've got USAA right now and as far as I can tell, there should be no restrictions on international purchases.

if i remember right you do need a japanese card for this to work.

How convenient of the guide to not mention that.
I also tried using Apple Cash to pay it and that didn't work either, gave the same error.
