Not that I'm the biggest fan of Dancemania either, as it's had its place in history, but some people gotta move on from it.

As sad as those removals are, it's not the war crime that is The Light's removal.

Jingle bells, A3 smells, Phoenix laid an egg…

This is brutal. At least with StepManiaX, "Cartoon Heroes" and "Sky High" (both of them) are here to stay on all machines. With DDR, A3 and the gold version of A20 have not been released in Canada, so I never got to experience the five "20th Anniversary" songs, and I'm not travelling to USA by the deadline just to experience them. I'll enjoy the blue A20 Plus and SuperNOVA 2 in Canada, plus SMX and PIU Phoenix, as much as possible.

I believe that removing these songs, plus the eight DDR A Western licenses in an A20 Plus upgrade, is a bad move. It will discourage people from playing more. As for the Japanese songs, I'd like to see them written in rōmaji, as I cannot read Japanese. It's possible that Konami has big plans for A3 and newer in 2024, like addressing the game's missing features: launching the game in more regions, better localization, etc. So far, however, it looks like a lump of coal.

I sometimes read this topic and sadly in my point of view less Dancemania and this notice of songs removals is bad for DDR, my mixes (versions) that i like it have the most majority Dancemania songs and i becomes a dance music fan because of DDR, but anyway, i know that licence is hard and very expensive but Danceminia songs are the root from DDR for me, i also enjoy some vocaloid songs and japanese pop but dancemania is the face of ddr for me.

I miss when Konami released complete games on day 1 and they just stayed that way instead of this add some remove some crap we go through with every release.

THHIIISSS so much, because now whenever a new mix releases, it's got like 9 songs to start. The same amount of songs they would've added in any other regular update at any other time regardless, except then it's really obvious how empty the new songlist is. I'd rather they withheld the last 20 or so songs they added to the game and save them for a new mix that launches with 30 songs at least, to make a bigger IMPACT. WHAM! This is the new mix, everybody! It's a bigger deal. (I guess they also slap a new background on it, too, meh.) I'd rather wait longer between updates for those updates to be larger, and during the waits they could just add some challenge charts instead. This is all speaking hypothetically, of course, as I don't even have an A3 cab to play on.

I mean, it's not like the pre-live service-focused titles didn't take out a whole bunch because of expired licenses either. You look at 5th Mix, Max, SuperNOVA, X2, and X3, and all of them are bloodbaths in that regard. In an alternate universe where contracts stayed the same but A3 was a one-and-done (with time-based unlock systems for the originals or something), the removal pool would look something like this:

Only My Railgun
-----
Maware! Setsugetsuka
-----
39
Ai Kotoba
Arifureta Sekai Seifuku
Believe
Break Free
Happy
Hello, Planet.
Hillbilly Shoes
Houkago Stride
I Want You to Know
More One Night
Mousou Zei
Nou Shou Sakuretsu Girl
Rinnetensei
Rokuchounen to Ichiya Monogatari
Shut Up & Dance
Slowmotion
Time of Our Lives
Wake Me Up
Youkoso Japari Park E
----
The Light

and then all of the removals that have been tapered throughout this mix would then hit together like a truck in the next mix.

Not the same thing. 5thMIX didn’t start with Dam Dariram KCP Remix then have it removed later. There is no version of MAX without Flash In The Night in it. You’ll never find a version of Extreme without Cartoon Heroes. I expect licenses to be removed from game to game, but removing them after they’ve already been in the game is a different matter entirely.

I'm sad about Sky High and Long Train Runnin', since they were my favorites out of the 20th anniversary remixes, but I can't help but feel like the non-Japanese licenses we've been getting are lackluster.

Now what are my friends who have casually played DDR gonna pick??? I thought that because they were remixes/covers it meant they were gonna stay

Fully agree with this. That, or put the japanese songs in order of romanized title. It makes it hard to find when I do remember what the songs are called.

Aw shucks that's a bummer. I genuinely like these remixed licenses., and the only reason I'm sad about this is that I still haven't achieved my goal of PFC'ing Have You Never Been Mellow yet, and then playing the Challenge charts of Long Train Runnin' and Sky High because they seem doable on my level.

This reason alone is why I hate the kind of standard Konami has done since 2013. Probably the most offensive move was in DDR 2014 where the UMU songs were removed before DDR A was released. I don't know why they could just do what n00b_saib0t said: if they have to remove songs, then have them removed in the next mix instead of being removed in a mix where the song's already there from the start of the release.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm fully aware that starting DDR 2013, it's just been update after update per mix, meaning depending on your region, you'll have DDR A3 or A20 Plus but this may mean that DDR 2013, 2014, A and A20 are nowhere to be found in arcades once updated. Still doesn't excuse them for removing songs that's already there.

I mean when a game switches to being online-based, songlist changes will also be impacted by that especially due to legal reasons (also probably more financially convenient for both parties, idk i'm not a lawyer so i'm just speculating), if y'all wanna go back to the old ways, maybe complain about e-amuse or whatever lol

anyways my thoughts on the removals: this batch was inevitable but it hurts still and it honestly came sooner than i expected
- the dancemania licenses i feel mixed on, i'm sad to see sky high and long train runnin' go but cartoon heroes was so cringe, the engrish wasn't even charming in a JALECO cover way, just in a "erm" way, konami honestly should've went the X-series route of simply extended the song cuts & updating the chart, literally was a well-liked approach
- the rest of the licenses hurt more though, to me, these picks were great and represented how A20/PLUS was a return to form in terms of getting more appealing licenses that brought actual casual appeal to DDR (even if half of these songs were still from anime openings lol) also as a side note to @LABcrab, i doubt anyone not well-versed with the BEMANI scene cares about Dancemania, if anything, the potential loss of Dua Lipa and Marshmello is more devastating
- really wasn't a fan of the Ace era where the licenses were mainly EXIT TUNES/Shanghai Alice scraps from SDVX/jubeat (exaggeration but still) and especially if the song choices were those "le meme songs", 2hu music can be bangers and the A20/PLUS picks reflect that
