Yeah I'd hope the combo font is gonna get shrunken down a bit, it's way too large.

Feels like yesterday that A20 was released. Time flies. Aside from the combo counter size and the choice of fonts for the score and judgements, everything slaps. Can't wait to see what new licenses we'll get this time.

This is how "data transfer" has always worked. You get a one-time offer to import data from the old game to the new game. After doing it, then anything done on the old game will not be known by the new game.

X3 -> 2013 was the same way. I assume 2014 -> Ace was also the same.

A --> A20 didn't do this, so people probably figured it wouldn't happen in future releases.

I’m a huge fan of the UI and the purple scheme. All the default songs plus the EXTRA EXCLUSIVE are slappers, with the most notable being Surface. Stessie doesn’t fucking miss, EVER. I’m not as tilted by the judgement/combo font choice as others, as it does look clean at the very least. An improvement KONMAI could make is the ability to change the font sizes, not so much the font placement that’s given through premium subscriptions. Although, honestly, that might be asking too much. The ability to toggle between singles and doubles is a much needed feature that should’ve been added since SuperNOVA. About time they added that.

My glaring issue is the decision to clean slate all non-player records. Yes, this is a practice among new IIDX mixes that those players are used to, but when you suddenly pull this off with a new DDR mix where records were being stored for six years, people are gonna have a problem! Chris himself mentioned his complaint in a Twitlonger, and I don’t blame him one bit for being upset. I’m blindly hoping this gets reversed.

I made a list of first impressions for this mix, note that these are entirely reviews based off at maximum three run-throughs, please don't catch me in the backalley if somehow this sways your favourite BEMANI artist into not ever producing more music because acclaimed critiQ(registered trademark) Quick Man said it was poopy.

Deep tenDon Reflex - thank god for an extra exclusive without BPM gimmicks. i question why those 16th rolls seem to start an 8th early at the beginning of chart. this is probably the best song in the game so far. (chart: 9/10 song: 9.5/10)

Drive My Heart - once again we're inventing 16ths for no reason in the first half but aside from that this chart is really good. shame about the song. (chart: 9/10 song: 4.5/10)

Fleur - some parts seem deliberately left uncharted maybe for some challenge 17 down the road. don't like the crossovers with the 16th triplets in them but that's about it. (chart: 8.5/10 song: 8/10)

Like a Star - what's that? a song that obviously isn't dubstep having a dubstep breakdown that DOESN'T make me want to vomit? say it ain't so. i wasn't really feeling the vocals at first but i got into them. chart is a lot better in the second half. (chart: 7/10 song: 7.5/10)

Pump Pump Pump - wow this song sounds really cool until you get to the breakdown and then it reminds me of why me liking kors k is what i refer to as a "phase". but then it's good again. kors k just please stop jamming breakdowns in your songs because without them they're really good. charting is fucked during the breakdown too but other than that, good marks. (chart: 8/10 song: 7/10)

SAYONARA - top tier chart ngl. good job. only problem is i don't really think those vocals work with the song at all, sorry. (chart: 9.5/10 song: 8.5/10)

Surface - chart is pretty generic and bland so even though there's nothing wrong with it it's still not gonna reach the top-top tier for just not being exciting enough. song is a BOP tho. (chart: 8/10 song: 9/10)

Wolf's Rain - home stretch. hoo boy. chart is pretty great despite having that "ignore real 16th rhythms, invent your own" problem in some areas. that trap breakdown fucking sucks though, who put THAT in the song? (chart: 8/10 song: 5.5/10)

Overall - I'm not gonna lie, I'm very impressed. I expected this to be dogshit and it turned out to be... I mean, a solid sandwich that I wouldn't order but would absolutely eat if someone got me. My only MAJOR complaint is that we got one (count them; 1... count stops there) quality of life improvement, and that's it. Please don't dripfeed us this shit. If you're presenting this content patch like a new game, act like it's a new game.

Aside from that, I fucking LOVE the gold+purple combination, and I also love that the "stage cleared" sound effect sounds like you just broke through the fucking sound barrier in a space shuttle. The only part of the theme I don't like is that the fonts are fucking hideous. How did A > A20 > A3 get progessively worse in font usage? A's fonts were awesome, arguably the best in the entire series. Bring those back, or hey, for a QoL suggestion - let us CHOOSE what fonts we want to use from all past mixes! That'd be cool, right? I mean, this is coming from someone in the UK, which means I'll only ever get to MAYBE play this mix about a month before A4 comes out, but still, please pretend my opinion matters in the slightest.

I'm not overwhelmed by any groundbreaking shifts here, but it's done what a new mix needs to do. Supply a handful of songs that are actually quality, with some charts that... yeah, okay, I'll give you the "quality" rating here, and provide a pretty interface to tie it all together.

I'm enough of a font guy to know that font has also been deliberately extended horizontally. It does look a little awkward, especially that the font is supposed to be a condensed* one that's been extended to, well...not be.

(tbh my real beef with it is in the score display. Narrow fonts with wide spacing does not simple reading make. I don't know why they changed it like this when regular Helvetica would, and did, fill that space just fine.)

Here’s a showcase of updates for the upcoming DDR A3 scoring tier lists!

Design updates:

- New font choices and kerning/spacing adjustments
- New emoji set (JoyPixels 6.6)
- Color changes
- “Ranking lists” will revert back to being named “tier lists” for accessibility.

Functional updates:

- SA values will be displayed as integers.
- A difference indicator showing SA value changes from the list before will be added.
- All PFC counts will now include non-PFC AAA’s that are 999k and up.
- New charts will have their score totals skewed up to account for recency bias.

Here’s how the recency bias fix will work:

When new charts are added in Skill Attack, scores are most likely entered by dedicated players first, followed by more casual ones. This leads to a higher ratio of scores falling into thresholds compared to the score total, causing the SA value to drop lower than usual.

New charts that are exclusive are more affected than default ones. This effect is more prominent in doubles charts.

To fix this bias, score totals for new charts will be skewed higher by a certain percentage. The more exclusive a new chart is, the higher the skew will be.

For example: A new default chart with 100 scores will have a 25% skew, bringing the net total to 125. A new exclusive chart with 100 scores will have a 50% skew, bringing the net total to 150. The skew percentage will gradually decrease to 0% as the gross score total reaches closer to 500. Threshold counts will be factored in normally.

Please note that this new concept is experimental and may not be implemented in each new scoring list revision.

So far, I haven't seen any videos of the logout BGM and the "Thank You For Playing" screen yet on Twitter and YouTube. It's the only BGM's of A3 that I haven't found yet.

I did get the chance to play some A3 yesterday. My impressions are pretty similar to Quickman's as far as the new songs go. Being able to actually use speed mods beyond the .5 increments and not having one failed song end the entire set made a huge difference. I do hope they make the judgment font smaller because it was legitimately very difficult to read the arrows without having arrows over judgment enabled.

Actually, with the recent revisions, it likes to hop back and forth between .8 and .9. It depends on how well-separated it is with the other songs in the group at that time.

My best guess would be... maybe a few weeks to a month? I consider that the in between to the original A20's releases (Gold versions released March 2019, Blue versions released 4 months later in July/August) and A20 PLUS's releases (Gold versions released July 1st 2020, Blue versions released just a week after).

I wouldn't hold my breath for it to release any time soon, especially in America. We will most likely require a USB upgrade kit just like the transition from A to A20.

The reason for this is that KONAMI gets a cut of every game credit in Japan and other Asian countries where PASELI is used. Because of this, online version updates are sort of a "thank you" for continuing to use their service. In America, PASELI isn't used and therefore KONAMI gets 0 profits from game plays. In order to make up that cost, R1 and D&B had to purchase kits from KONAMI and essentially "license" the game to these arcades. Think about how upgrade kits used to work before all this online stuff. To get more content you had to make the investment and purchase an upgrade kit. That's how it'll likely be with A3 over here.

And no, A20 PLUS was treated as an add-on to A20 and not a completely new version, and that's why we got it at the exact same time as the rest of the world. The only thing we don't know is if KONAMI has these USB upgrade kits on a per-version or time frame basis. Knowing them it's likely the former.
