HP1 is certainly better than HP2 but not by much.
Can't remember the last time I disagreed with a statement so much on a BEMANI forum.
No edit mode, no challenge mode, no double charts, no speed mods, all licenses were covers, terrible reimagining of old DDR songs, terrible charts, and the insane requirements to unlock tokyoEVOLVED..

Essentially, with all other songs unlocked get extra stage. This takes you to a battle mode stage where you have to play the song against the AI and you have to win to unlock it.
And unlocking every other song in the game is worse than it sounds.

NGL I am seriously tempted to download this game mainly to reverse engineer it - not for any "beat the subscription" bs, but to continue my research into the evolution of DDR's game engine.
Especially helps if the executable is x64, since the free version of IDA only supports Intel CPUs, and only supports using x64 based programs for its decompiler.
(Yeah I could use Ghidra - or I could use both, compare decompiler outputs and work from there )

Doesn't this apply to both Hottest Party 1 and 2 with the exception of a few licenses from 2?

Konami would hate you doing this, so naturally I'm gonna go "fuck yeah do it"

Essentially, with all other songs unlocked get extra stage. This takes you to a battle mode stage where you have to play the song against the AI and you have to win to unlock it.
And unlocking every other song in the game is worse than it sounds.
In HP1 (and HP2) you cannot unlock songs in free play mode at all, only mission mode. There are 25 "normal mode" () missions and 25 "hard mode" () missions, which increase in difficulty pretty gradually, except that the 2007-era gap between 9- and 10-footers is as present as ever.
Clearing the first 24 missions unlocks every song in the game except the boss songs.
The 25th mission is to clear Super Samurai with 3 or fewer Misses, which unlocks Super Samurai. Unlocking everything except tokyoEVOLVED is pretty straightforward.
Clearing missions 26-48 don't unlock anything at all except the next mission and I think some cosmetics / accessories / etc.
The 49th mission is to clear Super Samurai with 0 Misses. On 1x Vivid no screen filter etc. Good luck with that.
The 50th mission is to clear tokyoEVOLVED with 0 Misses and also beat the AI, who will always get an AA. (You need an AA with a higher score based on Extreme-era scoring.) This unlocks tokyoEVOLVED.
I'm pretty sure 0 people have ever done this on console pad. You can cheese it with a controller or use HP2's feature to automatically unlock everything in HP1.
Yes, if you've unlocked every other song then free play mode's Extra Stage will let you play tokyoEVOLVED, but you can't unlock it even if you beat it here.

Yeah, but I never bought Hottest Party 2, only played its songs in arcade/StepMania. I owned Hottest Party 1, which makes it more frustrating.
Literally the only thing worthwhile in Hottest Party 1 was SUPER SAMURAI. Pluto the First remains one of the worst songs in the entire DDR series' history to this day.

> terrible charts
would have to debate you on that, i'm flying away sucks but b4u acolyte's chart is pretty decent by today's standards along with love shine and candy
love shine and candy are also pretty good and faithful reimaginings
no speed mods is a bummer though

Edit:
That revival songs doesn't have a artist title so they could arrive as cover.

yes, unless it's specifically noted as otherwise, any licenses added to GP are covers. i also believe these licenses have appeared in other titles (jubeat mobile to be specific) so they can be checked out before they come around for the curious..That revival songs doesn't have a artist title so they could arrive as cover.

I don't see a point to Konami getting a JASRAC license for GRAND PRIX if all the licenses are covers.

JASRAC is req. for artists like Remo-Con, Keiichi Ueno and Osamu Kubota among others.Post #119 · Posted at 2022-03-01 02:40:56am 2.1 years ago

All of TaQ's songs aside from stoic are still MIA in GRAND PRIX. So much for that JASRAC license.
