My post from DDRV still stands; as I said before, I'm going to be really curious to see how well this game will be received, once the final version is released, because Konami is going to be competing with Stepmania, which is a lot more customizable and not (potentially) pay-per-play. Not to mention, it's very easy to find and play recreations of official DDR simfiles.
Infinitas and SDVX PC can get away with it because finding official (and especially up-to-date) BMS/KSM files from their respective games are now very hard to come by, in comparison.

I agree my friend, it’s going to be difficult for me to justify a subscription if I can have the essentially identical product for free.

Stepmania just feels different. It’s good enough, and that’s why ITG took off like it did, but hitting arrows in DDR feels more “crisp” while in Stepmania they feel “chunky” if that makes any sense. I think a lot of players who spent an extended amount of time playing actual DDR as opposed to Stepmania will pay for this as long as it offers an arcade comparable song list with that feel. I would love to put my LTEK to use on something official, especially now that I’m starting to get more PFCs on Stepmania timing I would love to start working toward them on DDR timing.

I mean its not even that, by just having this game free for a test its more than enough to get the elements to port it to stepmania, even the background video is just there which is hard to come by.

After spending some time with it I have to say it is quite enjoyable. It's a huge step up from the original HTML . I really did feel like I was playing the arcade version at home. Just like n00b said its is definitely crisper than the step mania counterparts of the themes. If they go subscription based I still don't know if I will subscribe. Id but it hands down if it was a one time purchase though.
I just hope it gets some “exclusive” songs.

I hope someone can find a way to increase the resolution, this has so much potential I hope konami sticks with it.

One of their twitter posts mentioned leaving feedback in a survey, though I can't figure out how to access it. You could probably include that in there.

Even then I think an actual DDR PC game would have its own advantages, such as loading times (seriously it can take a lot of time for a song to load on Stepmania), official support, no issues with controllers (I saw someone use a gaming controller in the same exact way as the PSX/PS2 games, the right buttons working as confirm/cancel buttons in menus and as arrow inputs during gameplay which is something I believe Stepmania doesn't have), being as accurate as the arcade version, specially with timing as another mentioned previously and I think having a CS port of the current arcade game might help with people who play it a lot to practice at home, since you wouldn't be hogging arcades. In relation to that, you can even play up to 100 stages per session it seems

Might be worth playing over the arcade if you can turn off the damn announcer.
DDR finally joining the PC BEMANI race surprises me on how long it took. Considering how many songs have been locked to arcade since X2 AC, it's finally nice to play them not via Stepmania.
Also it having double charts (which aren't playable in the alpha, but still) automatically makes this better than the ultimate mobile version they were planning.

I hope they could add a language option like in the actual arcade later on, because I cannot read Japanese. So I'm just navigating the menu just wondering what it's saying. lol

Can we have DDR at home?
We have DDR at home.
DDR at home:
...wait it's actually good this time. Honestly, I'm super happy we have a good official home DDR version again. A console game was always a stretch, but this is probably better in the long run. I hope the true release turns out well.
Also, I wonder if this is how they'll tie in an EDIT function? Edit your songs here and then bring it to the arcade.

Only things I'm kinda worried about are the possible takedown of existing ddr simfiles from the internet, subscription pricing, and how localization will be handled if at all. Also, playing essentially the arcade version on my pc in comparison to stepmania made me realize this game isn't really designed to play at higher resolutions at the moment. Not sure if I'd want to play in 720p every time but I guess it isn't a complete dealbreaker. I'd hope Konami would raise the render resolution at some point considering it's 2021 and most people are using 1080p at a minimum nowadays- though this is Konami we're talking about so I can't say I'd expect anything to change any time soon.

I just used Google Translate on my phone to help me through reading stuff, the first time around. It's honestly how I was able to pick Premium mode. >>

More information on the soft pad! https://www.konamistyle.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=110013
It will be released Spring 2022 and as expected, it is now confirmed to be a soft pad indeed. Sadly it's not compatible with the PS2 as it uses USB.
However, this caught my eye:

Purchaser bonus song packs may be sold by the Purchasing Department in the future.
Those better be some good fucking songs.

Why is this such a pain to set up? Why can't I just make an e-amuse account and log in within the game, why is the launcher making me do stuff in chrome? They should really streamline this in the final release. If it ever lets me play the game I'll post some opinions.
Edit: So this thing kinda sucks. Every 15-20 seconds the video just freezes and it won't take inputs during that time either, and options like the screen filter don't seem to be present. Things like changing speed mods and what I'm assuming from Google Translate are hidden/sudden+ (lane cover position) on the number pad won't work either. It doesn't save your scores after the set is over, so every time it's like playing fresh which was fine back in the day on Extreme and Supernova AC versions but doesn't fly on home versions, but I guess it is just an alpha still. If I could get it to stop freezing on me 3 times per song I could overlook all of that though for an alpha, but combined with that this thing just sucks. What it does have going for it is that it has that feel I was talking about the other day. It feels like DDR. That super satisfying crisp, sharp, amazing feeling of hitting an arrow in a DDR game is here, completely different from how hitting them in Stepmania feels. So if someone could maybe tell me how to get that freezing to go away I would appreciate it.
Edit edit: Restarting the game stopped the freezing issues, so that's awesome. Also the game works with the LTEK, which is great news since I don't think it's an x-input device so it wasn't guaranteed to work. Still can't figure out hidden/sudden+ and speed mods while in gameplay, nor making the screen filter darker though. So yeah, when this works its about as good as you can expect an Alpha to be, and I'm really excited for the final release if it ever happens.
