Hello, I'm your host, darkanine AKA Vective, and welcome to the first ever Zenius -I- vision Song Contest! In this competition, you will produce an original song or two and make a choreography (i.e. stepchart) for it, and we will vote on which ones are our favorite! Here's how it works:

Song Rules
The song(s) that you submit must be entirely original, and it must be produced and composed by you (or your team) specifically for the purpose of this contest. The use of samples is allowed as long as it is constructive, which means that samples don't constitute a significant part of the song's composition on their own. No edits or mashups of existing songs. Remixes are allowed as long as they are transformative enough to be their own song (i.e. not an edit). BEMANI remixes that you make are allowed as well as remixes of any other song whether you have the artist's permission or not. Our team of moderators, who are Karl with a K and djVERTICAI, will determine if your song qualifies for each round. If you are not sure what exactly qualifies as an original song for this contest, feel free to ask me or one of the moderators.

Choreography Rules
Your file must use original steps. You are limited to any of the features in Stepmania 5 whether that is rolls, mines, lifts, scroll gimmicks, speed changes, attacks, etc. Your choreography should aim to complement the song that you made as best as possible. Difficulties are to be determined using X-Scale ratings. For the purposes of voting, your song should include at least one chart that is rated a 12 on X-Scale or below.

Graphics Rules
Your song does not need to have graphics, but if it does, they must be graphics made specifically for your song. Jackets are highly recommended as part of your graphics. Think of the graphics as the branding for your song, so we encourage you all to put effort into these!

Team Rules
If you would like, you can work with one other person as a team. You must work together on both the song and the choreography. You will submit votes as one team rather than two participants. Note that teams are entirely optional, and you are more than welcome to submit as an individual artist.

Qualifying Round
Submit an original song and stepchart that is less than 2:30.
Submission Deadline: Monday, October 11
Voting Deadline: Monday, October 18th

Top 40% (rounded up) will move onto the final round.

Final Round
Submit an original song and stepchart that is less than 5:00. You may submit an edit or remix of your song from the Qualifiers, but you cannot submit the exact same audio file. Alternatively, you can submit a different song entirely.
Submission Deadline: Monday, November 15
Voting Deadline: Monday, November 22

Winner will be announced after final voting deadline. The method of voting and point calculation is TBD.

All deadlines are 11:30 PM UTC. There will be a 30-minute grace period for late submissions.

If you would like to sign up, please post your artist name that you or your team will be using for the contest, and a little introduction about your style of music! We'd love to hear a bit more about you. Once you do that (or even before if you haven't decided on your alias yet), you can start working on your song! You have 8 weeks to produce the song for the qualifiers, so if you are a bit rusty with producing music or you are a total beginner, now's your time to learn!

Heres my introduction if you would like an example:

Hi everyone! My name is Vective, and I will be producing under my alias "vective underground". I have been producing rather inconsistently for over 8 years now, and I produce various genres, but my favorite right now is Hard Trance. My favorite BPM is 148. I can't wait to hear what amazing songs you all produce!

Well, that's all I have from me right now. If you have any questions, post them here, or you can private message me through Z-I-v or Discord. May the best artist win! Also, if you have an idea for potential prizes, let us know! Happy

Hello hello! This is Karl with a K (just want to clear that up considering how difficult Z-I-v made it to change your username). Anyways, here's my introduction:

Hi! I'm Karl with a K! I have been writing music for 5 years now. I'm a metalhead at heart (especially the proggy/djenty kind), but I like writing and listening to all kinds of music. I wish you all the best of luck in Zenius -I- vision and am looking forward to hear what you can bring to the contest!

This is Karl with a K. As soon as I can figure out how to change my username that will be more obvious

OMG this contest is real, yes. Also Zenius-I-vision lmfao. Another Also, introduction time.

Hello! My name is MEGAtive and I usually go with "SM-MEGAtive" as my alias for music composition. While I started to do music composition back in 2013, I just took it more "seriously" in 2017 (seriously might be a stretch since I still doing it so seldomly, but I do study stuff more and more). I do any genre of composition, but usually I do Dubstep, Drumstep, and other form of it. Lately I've been doing Hi-tech as per learning inspiration from lapix/HITECH NINJA and Frenchcore as per learning inspiration from USAO so my musics are heavily influenced by them. I can't wait to listen to submissions for this contest.

Currently rebooting everything. If only I could change my username.

YES Let's goooooooo

Daniel Van Eden here! You may know me from my original song in DDR XX, or possibly one of my "funny" (subjective) DDR videos you saw on youtube one time. I'm coming up on 3 years of real music production experience and it's one of my favorite hobbies. My style is melodic-focused and comes from playing classically in school, as well as listening to EDM and game music (especially DDR) my whole life, and I like to experiment and put my spin on a mix of a lot of electronic genres. One of the reasons I do ZIv contests is because I love seeing how everyone expresses their creativity, so I'm gonna have a blast listening to what you guys come up with!

It would totally be cool to see some new artists or anyone who wants to take the leap into music production, we'll see who comes out to compete. More ZIv originals is always a good thing. Good luck everyone!!!

oh what the heck I guess I'm in

I don't have much of a fancy intro, I just really enjoy writing charts for things and producing the music itself is the logical next step. I've always admired the way the BMS scene runs contests full of completely original material, and it's cool to see something pop up for feetmania as well Wink I've written and released a couple original tracks (one of which appeared in ZENIUS -I- MANIA 2020) but I definitely need the practice...I'm thinking I might whip up a hardcore bootleg or something, to expand my repertoire. Maybe just throw a bunch of sample packs into REAPER and see what sticks. Who knows?

Oho, I like the traction here! Sorry I haven't put my official piece in yet, but I'm excited to see what comes out of it for everyone! Without further ado:

Hey hey heyooo, dj VERTICAI here! Yes, that's a capital "i" on the end, and yes, that's non-negotiable.

According to my Soundcloud, I've been fiddling around with music-making for...10 years? Is that right? Then why does it only just now feel like I'm getting good at it? At least it's always been fun though. Genre-wise I subscribe to the I'll-try-anything-once policy, so I like to dabble in anything from chill house to pushing into speedcore. Definitely influenced by a lot of what BEMANI games put out. I already have a real good idea of what I want my first song to be here, and I can't wait for y'all to check it out! Let's party!!!

"Two milkmen go comedy"
I might as well bump this thread.

Hi people, I'm Nezemarth. I've played around with music composition very sparsely since 2017, and I've have submitted before to the ZENIUS -XX- DECADE compilation. Normally I tend to be a huge fan of 70s/80s/90s dance music (i.e. Dancemania/Eurobeat/etc.), but I have tended to lean towards making piano-heavy (i.e. Italo house-esque) music in particular, and I think that's the direction I plan to go for in my entry. I don't think what I have cooking up will be great, but hopefully I can get feedback from this contest and polish it up for ZENIUS-I-MANIA 2021.

If I spend an hour or so to make a [..] beautiful standard chart and a fun light chart and it's required for the comp, play it, or at least look it over other wise I don't see the point anymore[.]

Update time! So the category is up and running here... all of those who signed up should be added as co-owners and able to upload their simfiles.

Now, I have thought about the voting system, and I have decided that the voting system for the Qualifying Round will be as follows:
You will give each file (other than your own) a score from 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. Your votes will be normalized so that the average (mean) of your votes is 0. Then the lowest outlier and the highest outlier will be removed from each file, and then the remaining votes for that file will be totaled. The files will be ranked based on those totals, and the top 40% rounded up will move on to the final round. This is an attempt to fix the issues with the previous outlier system.

The final round (tentatively) will work a bit differently, where you have 5 points to distribute across the files in the final round. The file with the most points wins. If needed, there will be a tiebreaker round for first place, which will take place TOI style.

Each participant is encouraged to vote, but submissions will not be disqualified due to not voting.

The deadline is around 2 weeks away, so hopefully you all have started on your songs, but if not, you still have plenty of time. Signups are still open as well!

That's it for now, but let me know if you have any questions/concerns. Happy producing!
