"jubeat knit one, purl two"
I've been working on simfiles called "Mode Swaps", which are like FELMDemon's FDE's, except Singles is also converted to Doubles (lol plug). Anyway, I noticed how Doubles is more or less Singles across two pads, yet Doubles gets away with a lot more craziness.

For example, LDRLDR. On Singles, this feels like an awkward turn, but on Doubles, you're doing the same thing. You're facing one way one the first three arrows and turning 180 degrees to step the second three.

So if you wouldn't write a certain step pattern on Singles, would you write a similar one for Doubles?

"o_O?"
Yep.

Unfortunately, I don't have enough experience on doubles to make serious doubles charts.

I actually have to redo most of the doubles charts when I transfer them, especially if it's a expert or challenge chart.

ITG doubles charts are the absolute worst. >_>
The Heavens! The Earth! And a million squirrels call to me! Huh? What...they don't?

"I'm honestly pissed off."
Not sure, need to play more doubles. I would do something like L1D1R1L2D2R2 though, as it keeps you pretty much facing the screen in doubles, though you do have to turn, turn back, and turn to do it.

I played your SKD mode swap, the doubles medium chart seemed somewhat awkward to me. It just didn't seem to flow as well as the ITG doubles charts I've been playing.

In case you're wondering, I've been doing 6-8 on ITG doubles, with a couple 9's.

Whenever I make Double charts, I make an effort to make them different from their single counterpart. I will still follow/compliment the music, but I will do so in a different way.

Like the argument of DDR & ITG singles, the same argument can be applied to double. They have very different step styles. It's really just up to the opinion of each person.

Overall, it's more difficult to convert Singles to Doubles than the other way around. I'm aiming to stay true to the Singles charts while giving the appearance of a Doubles-made chart, which is relatively tough. For Doubles to Singles, you can pretty much just transplant the right side to the left with only a few minor edits (and whatever makes for the best simulation of the original). For Singles to Doubles, you have to do a lot of tweaking since they weren't designed with that second dimension in mind. I thought the Medium chart turned out well. It may be a bit awkward as you said, but it's the best representation, IMO.

I have converted a few doubles charts to singles because one thing I noticed (for the most part) is that the doubles charts are harder than their singles counterpart. It is pretty easy to convert them because most of the charts for singles and doubles are generally the same (except freckles Dead.) They just need a little tweaking because you may end up with some random spins in songs.

My best advice for converting singles to doubles is to look at some of the doubles step guide to understand how crossovers and turns work and step series that happen alot. Once you have a good base knowledge on doubles step patterns, it should be easier to make them.
