Heh, Veritas actually feels like a hard 14 to me and I specifically uprated it to 15 because I thought I'd probably be unusual in that respect. Personally I think MAX 300 EDP is significantly harder. Oh well, I'm used to having a skewed idea of difficulty.
Every 8th cluster in MAX 300 EDP except for the run at the end does not involve any shift in momentum or body positioning, so it's actually quite easy until the last 8 or so seconds as long as you have the stamina to drill. Even the very last run is entirely crab walking, so there's no twisting your body sideways to hit anything. What makes your chart far harder than that is that so many of your runs involve significantly longer travel distance between steps but you also don't give the player an opportunity to recover to full gauge after each one. Don't get me wrong, the movements are fun, but level 15 charts in DDR don't use those kinds of fast runs as often as yours did, let alone in succession.Quote: Brother Mojo
The "jumpscare" is there because it felt to me like the song really "hangs" on that one note, so doing something like a stop for it seemed correct, and I went with an intense slowdown instead so that there are more cues for when it's going to pick back up.
One of the easiest things you can do to give the player more cues to say "okay the song's going to pick up now" is gradually increase the scroll rate just one beat before the steps resume at that slowdown. As is, I found that it is not only difficult to know when to hit arrows again, but also at what speed (the 4 notes after the slowdown could have just as easily been at half speed as opposed to full, and having a greater visual distance just right before would help in telling those sorts of things).Post #82 · Posted at 2020-11-03 07:07:45am 3.4 years ago

In reference to the step zone at the top of the screen? Or their positioning on the pads?
Quote: KexMiX
In terms of the step zone. Sorry, should've clarified. For example, a 1p down to a 2p down would have a 3-panel gap in between it on the step zone.
Then does that mean [↓|↑] counts towards the requirement, but not [↑|↓]? If not, why not? Aren't they the same distance apart on the dance platform?

I have a feeling KexMix misworded it, because 1D and 2D are 4 lanes apart visually but 3 panels apart on the pads.

Yeah, I get all that, but that stream in MAX 300 is more than 10% faster stepping than anything in Veritas, and for me that's a way bigger deal than the differences in movements. And like I said, I get that's not how it is for everybody, I just underestimated how far off my judgment is. It's easy to rate how hard you think something is, it's a lot harder to rate how hard other people think it is.So I don't really aim for a difficulty level, I just write some steps that I think fit the song from a certain perspective, then try to guess how hard people will think they are. And really it's kind of unfortunate that people will see that difficulty rating first, because it'll color people's expectations and I feel like the odds that people will agree with me on that assessment are usually pretty low.

I agree with what you said on every level; yeah all it was was you were off on your judgment as to how I saw it, and that was that. Speed and movements are both important considerations and sometimes, there's no perfect way to gauge anything. Thus, we all make guesses and are wrong sometimes, myself included. There are so many things I rated that were way off the ballpark myself, and the consequence is often that the chart attracts the wrong players as audience. That's why I do give paragraphs explaining things from my side, which include both my observations based on evidence and things that are purely my opinion. Your file still did well in my eyes!
Perhaps people reading this might want to say I care about what things get rated more than I should, and that's a perfectly fine and valid point to have. I care to the extent I think your file will be playable and enjoyable to players at the level at which it was rated, as well as to the extent it shows you understand how demanding the things you put are.

"I do DDR things sometimes" |
I did misworded it and explained it incorrectly, thanks for catching that, Newb.
Perhaps I should've said that the requirement applies to the physical setup, not the stepzone. Whoops.

[Floor 3] - Ranged Attacks
Makin' Out - Infinity
Single: 2 / 5 / 7 / 12 / 17
Double: 4 / 6 / 13 / 15
Genre: Eurodance/Bubblegum
There is no such thing as too many Dancemania licenses! This beautiful song was featured in Dancemania X4, originally off the Infinity's album "www.happy-people.net".
Main Requirement can be found in CDP, from measures 39-50. Both the CDP15 and CSP17 are ITG-style, so difficulty may be off by a level or two, I'm pretty confident the DDR-style Beginner-Heavy charts are rating appropriately. Hope you enjoy crossovers!!!

This floor's requirements are great. They're not restrictions, they're a license to cut loose. Well over 100 stretchy steps, and a section over 24 steps long that doesn't use the center two panels... and actually gets repeated (though mirrored) later. Not sure the challenge chart is actually 18-worthy, it might be more of a 17 but it seemed better to aim high here. It's definitely a lot of kinds of difficult that people may not be used to, with wide stretches, long-distance movements, and some pretty intense or unusual twists.
...and if you haven't gotten enough practice at being tall to handle the challenge chart, the expert chart is similar but with significantly less rude patterning, so maybe give it a shot. Similarly it might be a little easy for a 16, but this seemed safer.

Lock and load for those ranged attacks! The preview section has only U/D arrows on each pad, and that stretch without the center two arrows lasts for 40 arrows.
Okay so it was either this or The legend of JUMPING, so I had to do the right thing...
Yeah, no. I'm not submitting that one lol

I haven't heard the Legend of Jumping since like 2004. That was such a great joke file back when everyone and their mother was making Max remixes.
You sir, make me happy for reminding me of this.
Amazing files so far guys! Keep it up!
[edit] 2004, not 2006. I was still in high school at that point in time

Haha, I only heard it for the first time last month because StyleK226 played it from the Max Megapack. You could tell I never even heard of StepMania in the 2000s era

Floor 3
sorry I missed last week, let's just say I took the elevator up to the third floor...
Reasons to Run (Fox Stevenson Remix) / Crankdat
Single: 1 / 5 / 7 / 10
Double: 5 / 8 / 11
I don't really tend to do anything crazy with gimmick stuff so I was pretty modest with the huge jumps, though there are a few → - - ↑ and ↓ - - ← gaps which at least look far away due to the receptor spacing. Enjoy!

"Dark room...I lost track of my mind..." Stumbling into the torchlit area, well after the rest of the party had gathered and looking more than a little singed around the edges, Telperion narrowly dodged another arrow as it flew past his face. "Never a dull moment around here, huh?" he muttered, leaping into cover and readying his bow. But when he reached for his own arrow, the whole quiver, strap weakened by last floor's traps, crashed to the ground, spilling like pick-up sticks. "Noooooo no no no no!" he hissed, trying to reassemble the gear...

Wow did everyone just miss Floor 2? Looks like I need to play the catch-up game...
