Oh rad! I'm going to keep working on my conversions too, since I'm cropping out the letterbox black bars which effect the up-scaling at the top and bottom of the videos. Which A.I. Model did you use to upscale these?

I used the Artemis LQ option, it's the last one in the list since it states its for low quality, blurry and I tried out all of them, it took awhile to try them all lol

Artemis did seem to give the best results. Some of them are just really bad quality and I even tried Upscaling the original and then Upscaling the Upscaled samples

cool cool. I'm using the Gaia-CG AI since it's the only one made for CG graphics. Seems to handle static, scanlines, and models of people better. I might try Artemis-LQ if I upscale some of the songs with music videos.
ETA for my conversations is 4 days since I can only do about 40 vids a day. =A=

When you say "upscale some of the songs with music videos" which do you mean? Are there any videos with music in them?

I will try Gaia CG and see. It takes me about 4 hours to do all the videos up scaling. Not sure of any with music in them though unless I'm misunderstanding? @Scrap Rabbit

Some of the upscaled versions (the amoeba movies) are actually really good!

One thing I should point out is that the download link only includes videos that are in beware's EXTREME. So videos like planet1, snow1, spiral3, candy1, cross2, text29, text4, text9, spikes11, floor1, and so on and so forth are not converted.

It'd be cool to see how light4 and spiral3 look with this, but I'm not sure how to do it myself.

@CuzcoBlocko, with me being fairly new to this scene, still finding my way around.

If you can give me an indication where I can get those videos beyond Beware's, I'm more than happy to fire up the Upscaler

*There are still a few missing, such as the console-exclusive videos like Rapper's Delight, Theme from Enter the Dragon, and Waiting for Tonight. There's also two Kind Lady videos and one variation of another unused video (lady20) that never got ripped. But that's beside the point...

Would you guys like 1920x1080 or prefer 1280x720?

I personally see a bit more detail in the 1280x720 scale but not sure how SM5 will react to over 7+GB (probably more) in Videos at 1920x1080,

I personally suspect only extreme supercomputers will be able to deal with 1920x1080 videos in StepMania comfortably. Especially with custom playrates, which a lot of songs call for (such as TRIP MACHINE luv mix, but more especially PARANOIA -Respect-). 1280x720 seems fine.

I have no idea how (or why) just random videos play during songs, I'm still far too new to SM.

Quick comparison between the two on SO FABULOUS SO FIERCE. disco3 and dance7 in particular look noticeably better. Both videos are 936x702, which accounts for cropping the original 1216x832 videos to remove the black bars.




The lower quality video's thumbnail, coincidentally, landed on a frame that's one away from matching the higher quality video's thumbnail, and you can already see the differences.

All videos upscaled (I think that's all of them now haha) to 1280x720

Is the resolution you posted on, 936x702, a DDR specific video resolution or specific aspect ratio?

However... there is actually a big problem.

All of these videos go at a solid 25 fps. Which means there's frames missing for nearly all of the videos. The exceptions being dance12, ddr7, ddr8, ddr9, ddr10, ddr11, ddr12, ddr13, ddr14, dots2, girl3, surf1, which are all already 25fps in beware's pack... as well as all of the videos at an even slower framerate. But that's only 55 videos out of 851.

Now, obviously I can use the first pack for all of the videos that appear in beware's EXTREME, so that rules out 520 videos. I can remake any missing reverses/cuts using those videos (such as star1r and fireworks3a/3b), removing a few more. I can also recover the frames for some of the non-EXTREME videos that have reverses that go at 30fps, and possibly slower/faster framerates. candy1, spiral3, pills3, feather1, fabric1, some others.

So, to sum it up, if you subtract the videos from beware's EXTREME and subtract all videos that are 25fps or slower, that leaves us with 317 videos to sort out. It'll take a while for me to sufficiently pick out which of those 317 still have/can have all of their frames, so I'll let you know the list of videos that need to be converted.

lines3, bluey2, and spiral3 are examples of videos I was able to fix (obtain all 80 frames for) so far.

Here are my conversions. 400x upscaled (1216 x 704), mp4, using the GAIA-CG AI to upscale these. Frame rates should match the originals as well.

The GAIA-CG is the "safer" AI. I get less sharp lines (compare Amoeba1 between mine and flashgear's) but less weird AI artifacts. (Compare Lady13.)
These are all in the Beware pack on this site. Cuzco, right now I'm remaking the videos in your patch and rendering them completely uncompressed. VEAI really doesn't jive with the encoder you used and drops frames a ton. :< I'm going thru them at a decent speed, but it might be up to a month before I finish re-cutting and up-scaling them. (unless hey, you have them all encoded differently. ;D)

100% agree, so far from my brief checks,

Your AI does a far better job at Human like upscaling and Artemis seems a bit better on the abstract stuff but it's hard to pick a winner with some videos being so close its hard to tell (especially at the speed they play in game or the like)

I'm just glad I found this thread to have found this software even for non DDR stuff to play around with, next up, old VHS Video tape conversions from when I was a kid!
