Did you guys fix the video issues? I was going through beware's EXTREME files earlier in the year moving the scripts to current .sm's. in normal SM5, there were issues in which a video wouldn't play at the correct speed, and when set to rewind after playing, if it appeared again in a script, you'd get a frame or 2 flash before it rewinds. Same issue on Outfox. I did ask about this on Reddit, someone did respond and asked me to upload a file (I used the hardcore washables video of CSFILSM) but didn't really hear anything after.
I believe the video issues are mostly ironed out, I'm currently able to play my ITG simfiles with their video scripts just fine (very old MPEG encoded videos from the original game).

OK, I'll download the newer version and have a look at some point Big Grin
Edit: the issues are still there.

I just made a simfile using Arrow Vortex. Even though I saved it in both SM and SSC formats, I can't get it to load in Outfox. I even tried uploading it here, downloading it and placing it in the desired folder. That didn't seem to work. Is there anything I can do to fix this issue without having to recreate it in Outfox?

I upgraded to Outfox for STARLiGHT v2, how do I even go about syncing my machine on this? My numbers from 5.0.12 and 5.1b2 are WAY off, I can't hit Marvelous to save my life on this thing. Trying to sync using a song (F6 twice) gets me absurd values like -0.101, and no matter what I try the sync is just horrible. I'm not awful at this game, I PFC'd PARANOiA (finishing the 1st folder) on Wednesday on 5.0.12, so it's not that I just can't play. Keyboard or pad it all just feels off. Is Outfox known to sync later than other versions of SM? Is it earlier? Please help.

edit: Okay, so anyone using the characters/stages in this really should take Enciso's advice in his github page and set D3D. The default video drivers for 5.3 were introducing a ton of lag and after fixing this my global offset came out to -0.058, which is pretty normal for SM on my monitor. Hopefully this helps anyone who forgot that step when installing the dancers/stages in 5.3.

I am not the most tech savvy. Does anyone have another guide on how to fix this? I tried to follow the one that Enciso has to no avail.

https://outfox.wiki/releases/A4.9.9HF3/#windows-legacy-input-driver

Windows legacy input driver

There has also been work done on a small side part of the game, while we have been waiting for a fix from upstream in regards to the ‘polling/framerate’ issue that a lot of folks have helping us diagnose for some time. The long and the short of the issue, it meant on some songs, the input would skew towards the update loop rather than honouring it’s timestamp, thus producing ‘spikes’ on the scoring graph at the end of the song, and make a odd looking ‘stair’ display on the scatter plot of the steps and judgements taken.

To resolve this while we’re waiting a fix, we have reimplemented the old legacy driver that was on 5.2/5.1 and adapted it for OutFox. This driver can be tempremental, but it seemed to behave with the devices we tested it with. If you tend to find that your input is affected with the message loop issue, you can set up the driver with the following instructions.

You will need to load up your preferences.ini in your save folder, locate the inputdrivers= part, and then make sure it looks like this inputdrivers=legacy, minisdl

Isn't this a hardware issue though? Different versions of SM also have this and it can be fixed by changing polling rate of device from 125hz to 1000hz. https://www.instructables.com/Modifying-an-L-tek-Dance-Pad-to-Poll-at-1000hz-on-/

I recommend using portable mode, and just drop your "Save" folder in the root StepMania directory. From what I can tell it works on all versions 5.0.12 and up, just delete your preferences.ini (but make note of your global offset so you can just paste it back into the text file) and boot StepMania and it will make a new one for you and all your scores will be there. If you don't use portable mode it puts them in your local files directory I think, so just paste it there.

This actually helps a lot with issues I was having on some songs and my Perfect count being abnormally high. Like I PFC'd Burnin' The Floor last week with 50 Perfects. I got 24 Perfects on 5.0.12 when I PFC'd PARANOiA, so 50 is way high for me. I thought I was just having a hard time figuring out a syncing issue but this feels so much better.

Well, yes and no. The github wiki page for the dancers said to set GLAD/D3D so that's what I did.

Quote
VideoRenderers=glad,d3d

Apparently that ",d3d" part hasn't been doing anything lol. I changed it to "glad, opengl". Should I go with that or just have it as "glad"?

I still have two issues with 5.3 I'm trying to iron out though. Cut-ins sometimes give me a small stutter. It's not consistent, and it doesn't even seem to effect my scores like most stuttering would. Like inputs are still accepted and the suttering is on the cut-in and stage/dancer, not the arrows. I didn't have this issue with cut-ins on 5.0.12, so I'm assuming there is something about 5.3 that is causing this. I have a good enough rig to max out games like Horizon Zero Dawn and Resident Evil Village, StepMania shouldn't be giving me issues with stuttering from a hardware standpoint.

Also, it's not saving my scores correctly. I'll get a significantly better score on a song (like down from 6 Greats to 1 Great, or down from 2 Greats to a PFC) and even have the results screen tell me it's a new record but when I get back to the song select screen it still shows my old score. I checked that percentage scoring is off (thinking that maybe since I'm using STARLiGHT 2.0 with DDR scoring that the results screen uses money score but StepMania itself wants to save percentage, so if my Perfect count was bad then less Greats is still a worse score) and it is, so I have ruled that out. It honestly just doesn't seem to save the score. Using STARLiGHT's left+up menu on the song select screen to see my high score and the machine scores for the songs, the scores in question just aren't there at all. They aren't saving for some reason. Is this a known bug?

Does Project Outfox normally have resolution issues? Across multiple themes I notice that the resolution is super pixellated and I can't figure out what setting could be causing it to happen on multiple themes in both windowed and fullscreen.

It's not really a resolution issue. OutFox and SM don't apply mipmapping, which is the process to reduce these artifacts when a huge image is projected on a small space (We can consider adding this later for OutFox).

@hollandaze You might consider using thumbnail images to fix this. Get this thumbnail image batch tool (if you're Windows user). Extract and place the bat file to your Songs folder. You need to have ImageMagick installed first for this to work. Then run the bat file. It will look for song jackets and create tn images. They are stored inside individual simfile folder that has "-tn" in filename.

Get tn_generator here

Then apply this patch to your STARLiGHT v1.4.1 theme

Get STARLiGHT v1.4.1 theme patch

I'm glad to know there's a name for what's happening. This was never an issue I had with SM on my old computer, it only seems to have popped up when I switched to Outfox on a newer Macbook model.

Here's an update on some of the things that have been going on lately:

First off, we've put out a crossfade for the songs we're accepting charts for in the second edition of our Serenity pack project

We also released a new build this past weekend, 0.4.14 (note that as of this build we've officially stopped using "5.3", and have transposed our alpha build versions onto an x.y.z scheme), which has updates to the SSC chart parser to make it more efficient, more of our ongoing improvements to the editor, .tja and .osu parsing for taiko, parsing of scroll gimmicks on .osu and .qua files (the former for kbx and taiko, the latter for kbx), a new cross-platform driver for the Para Para Paradise PS2 controller, and po-mu double (18-button).

So I just saw the Steam Early Access announcement. Will you guys be opening up workshop support or would that muddy the water a bit?
