I've been trying to get back into DDR at home, but I don't have a lot of money and I'm too cheap to go to the arcade. Are there any decent pads for under $100? I know I'm not gonna get anything amazing, and I'm not very good so it doesn't have to handle super-hard songs. I just want something that won't break in a few months like the official ones always used to.

If you're able to find a second hand RedOctane Ignition pad, those are pretty good. They're soft pads with a hard foam insert. I was able to do up to X-scale 18's on mine before I ended up giving it to a friend. I got 4+ years of use out of it.

Really the best "cheap" pads you're going to get are foam pads. A good USB foam pad will run you about $80 brand new, and I could do up to level 15 stuff (DDR scale) without issue.

18 footers? Without the pad slipping around?

I mean, it still moved and I did have to use a pretty obscene amount of Gorilla Tape to keep it even remotely stationary, but yes, I did pass Trigger Oni and Valkyrie Dimension Expert on a RedOctane Ignition.

You can easily tape the pad to the floor (like I did), but my problem with higher 15+ stuff was that the pad itself was too slippery; couldn't really get enough traction to accurately do fast stuff.

Seconding the D-Force pads. They're some of the most underrated pads on the market right now, and a much better value for mid-level play too.

Only issue I had with my D-Force is that the top surface of the pad somehow ripped and I have no idea how to fix it. Two little cuts on the pad, about 1 inch each, on either side of the down arrow. That and, various parts of the top surface are still kinda wrinkled and sticking upward, don't know how to flatten it out.
But other than that, yeah, they work surprisingly well. Did up to level 14/15 stuff with no problems.
