NEW DDR CONFIRMED! COMING OUT IN MARCH (AT LEAST IN JAPAN)!

There's currently no gameplay footage; it just shows the splash screens and the title screen, with the DDR X announcer still on board.

PAD LIGHTS ARE BACK!

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DxvRKsnVsAE0pRp?format=jpg&name=4096x4096

Doesn't hurt to make a speculation thread, so that the DDR A thread doesn't get flooded with talk for the next mix; if this gets confirmed and we're actually getting a new mix, then I'll update the title, and we'll treat this thread like the previous games here.

Anyways, I think it's interesting they're recycling the Dancerush cabinets if it's true, but it's genius at the same time; if they actually make this game 4K to go with the bigger screen, the game will look gorgeous.

You guys think Naoki will make a new song as a commission artist?

Is it necessary to make a thread about that? There are two threads which people can discuss about it.

I'd rather have the separate thread, honestly. This one can always be repurposed if/when it turns out to be something substantial.

That was exactly my mindset when I made this thread.

Whenever people would talk about something off-topic in the DDR A thread, people would complain about it. Yes, we have a general DDR discussion thread, but this is different because for all we know, that picture might've been a leak for a new DDR game coming out. If it's confirmed, then I can retitle the thread, and everyone can start talking about the new game right here, and it can be stickied for a few years until the DDR after next gets released.

I don't see how going 4K would be substantial. Unless the entire groundwork gets tampered with and changed, it's not gonna look too pretty. It already doesn't look the greatest running at 720p, and the bgvideos are all 360p, and I highly highly doubt they're gonna be altering any of that any time soon.

As for the game itself, it's fairly promising. If we do end up getting an entirely new game, or at least a New Game+ version of A, I can only imagine what's gonna be done with it. Will the new cabs be worth the complete repurchase? Will the original A cabs be able to be converted? Seems kinda risky to do all this high end shift. Makes me worried these cabs won't be available outside Asia.

Taking all bets on whether this is a new mix or just a cabinet!

100/1 on it being a new mix.

My money is on new mix, but limited availability on the new cabs so those of us who's only online cabs are at D&B's will get the 2014-style patch.

It's probably just a new cabinet. If there's a new mix they would probably still support the white cabs at the very least.

That's what makes the most sense. In Japan they've just been patching in new mixes via e-amuse since DDR-2013

I honestly think it's DDR A 20th anniversary edition and it's just a gold theme version of DDR A. Nothing extra or anything like that.

If you want my two cents, I'm thinking that the cabinet is obviously a limited version that's only being made for 2019, and once it's 2020, we'll still get the same cabinet design, but it won't be gold-plated; I'm guessing it's gonna literally be a black cabinet (maybe hints of pink or blue to make it look like the older cabinets) that will look very similar to the Dancerush cabinet.

I'm also going to guess that, if A20 is a new mix, regardless if it needs a new HDD or is just an update like it has been since 2013, they're going to stop supporting the 573 cabinets, much like how Pump has been discontinuing their SD cabinets when PIU XX came out.

"Not a real DJ. I make music tho."
The span between DDR 2013 and DDR A is three years, so if it would follow that pattern, then this would be a new mix

Extreme is still, by far, the most common cabinet found in North America. It would be stupid to stop support because most of these places won't bother to replace their Extreme with another DDR cabinet.

Still doesn't change the fact that the cabinet is now 20 years old, and most of those cabinets aren't running anything newer than SuperNova 2 (outside of a select few specialty arcades who import stuff from Japan). Keep in mind that the reason why we have so many Extreme cabinets is because a sizeable chunk of them were bootlegged.

I'm not saying that there aren't arcades that won't upgrade their machines past Extreme or SN1/2, but it's highly unlikely you're gonna see your average arcade owner/operator clamoring for an A20 kit for their 573 cabs, let alone anything newer than extreme, anytime soon. (tl;dr, there's a 98% chance that the Extreme cabinet you see in Timbucktwo is gonna still have the Extreme HDD... regardless if it's legit hardware or one of those chinese bootlegs that lets you speed up/slow down the music. ;P )

All those aside, the tech on those cabinets are very outdated and are getting increasingly hard to support, which I'm positive is why Andamiro has slowly started discontinuing support for their oldest PIU cabinets from their newest games. (That, and there's a reason why the IIDX cabinets require the new hardware to run Cannon Ballers and Rootage). >>

Uhh, hey guys? HAVE A BETTER LOOK AT THE CABINET!

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dw3JMqcW0AAfKFQ.jpg:large

Updated impressions: The new all-gold pads look SLICK! The more I see this cabinet, the more I wanna see this at a better resolution, let alone in person!

Konami don’t support the extreme cabinets in America already though (and probably never officially did on most of them). All legit Ace machines in the US are white cabs. It’s really only Japan that would probably be affected by dropping official support for older cabs.

Red cabs are also very common overseas as well, cutting off support would require all of those cabs to run in offline mode. It's possible but unlikely.

I'm strongly suspecting this is just a new cabinet design; the rest of the text is all about hyping the new monitor, speakers, stage lights, etc. Nothing pointing toward a new mix at all.

I really hope the lack of an edge next to the right arrow on the 2P pad is just some sort of artistic error with that render.

Same. At this point I'm just chalking that up to an early render of the cab.
