Stampede, a production company recently founded by former Warner Brothers President of Production Greg Silverman, is partnering with Branded Pictures Entertainment and Konami to develop a film based on Konami's Dance Dance Revolution music rhythm game franchise. According to the trade news sources Deadline and Variety, the "project will explore a world on the brink of destruction where the only hope is to unite through the universal language of dance."



Stampede revealed the project on Tuesday while announcing the promotion of Cara Fano as its Director of Development, Film & TV. Fano was Silverman's former subordinate at Warner Brothers before joining him in launching Stampede. Fano is collaborating on the Dance Dance Revolution project with producers J. Todd Harris and Marc Marcum of Branded Pictures Entertainment, and Konami itself.

Konami launched the game franchise in Japanese arcades in 1998. It has since released entries on several consoles, with accompanying dance pads to emulate the arcade version's dance stage with directional switches.

The project will almost certainly fall through. It will get stuck in development hell for years and will be slowly abandoned piece by piece. Either that, or they won't get sufficient funding and will have to shut down production before it can even begin.

This should at least be better than the upcoming Sonic movie.

Assuming it happens, I'll prolly watch it even if it's bad. Feeling indifferent until we see more specific details.

I think the only way they can irredeemably frick this up is to make the whole movie about Pump in the end.

I liked it better when it was called The FP

Honestly, I won't REALLY believe that it's going to exist until they start shooting it.

That said, if it gets a theatrical release, I will absolutely be there opening night, even if it's the most bland shit imaginable!
I hope they go all out with it! Make the protagonist Rinon! Make the resistance leader Captain Jack's brain in a jar! Queen Zukin as the mad tyrant who has outlawed all music and dancing for everyone but her appointed elites! Family torn apart by the underground DDR scene!

In the meantime, FP2: Beats of Rage looks better than the original. Not exactly a high bar to pass, but I'll watch it!
