When someone drops from a bracket, the other person gets essentially a free trip to the next round. No one takes their place.
Besides, I don't have any simfiles ready so unfortunately even if that were allowed I wouldn't be able to take Ryan's place anyway. >.<
I'm taking a break from playing through the files that are currently available (I played about 8 out of 10) but there are some really really good simfiles and there and then just good simfiles. I mean, wow, every file I've played so far is good. It'll be kinda heartbreaking to have to say bye to some steppers once it gets smaller and smaller...
Besides, I don't have any simfiles ready so unfortunately even if that were allowed I wouldn't be able to take Ryan's place anyway. >.<

I thought it was a pretty song, so I made a simfile for it. There was a

So after seeing that I was having to compete against Lisek, I decided it was time for drastic measures. A complete polar opposite to his usual music choice, excessive BPM changes and gimmicks, all with charts that are probably a little much for the song.
and are about what you would expect them to be - utilizes a lot of crossover freezes and 8th streams, and was made to be a companion to the , which has somewhat harder streams and a fun jump-spin. I would definitely recommend giving at least one easier chart a try before diving into the - knowing the gimmicks will help a lot with figuring out the rhythms.
Brief responses to questions I expect to see from this challenge -
1: Yes, I intentionally made M28.25-29.75 different rhythmically to M29.75-31.25. It's very slight (1/32nd or so, but it WILL screw your score up if you aren't checking. It checks out with autotick, and took forever to get right...
2: The three double-jacks at the beginning are meant to be done as a "Choose-Your Own Footswitch". Utilize either one each time to set yourself straight. Unique addition, I think ^.^
3: All the BPM changes and stops exist in the music. While you may be following the vocals for most of the chart, the actual scrolling rate will follow the instrumentals as new layers are added and removed.
4: Yes, it's karaoke. I don't do many karaoke charts, deal with it.
5: Minus the three footswitch marking mines at the beginning mentioned in #2 all mines go with off lyrics or obvious sound effects like the heart monitor at the end.
6: Don't forget to catch your breath when the lyrics tell you to!
7: I didn't write the lyrics. If you're offended, I'm sorry. It was not meant to offend, but to be a piece of art thrown into a competition.
8: The reason the BPM is marked as 72-144 in the .sm/.ssc is because the two 36BPM sections are a single beat long, and obvious. Don't use a ridiculous speed mod expecting a lot of super-slow. Most of the chart scrolls at 108 or 144.
This is probably my favorite personal set of graphics. I am THRILLED by how well they came out.

This song is a bit on the crazy side. At 170 BPM, the charts are fast paced and challenging. The
chart is filled with chaotic patterns, jacks, and streams. There are scroll changes, so please use SM5.I also have a question:
Would it be OK to update the SM file AFTER the deadline with speed changes and stops that are identical to the scroll changes in SSC? I would NOT change the steps. This is so people without SM5 can still play it with the speed changes. The only thing about the SM that would be different is the BPM changes. I am unable to do it until after the deadline, because I am at school right now.

For Round 2... a song about the number two.
I've decided to make a daring file. Loads of jacks, a few stops, and one hand. I can tell that this will be a divisive entry that could even cost me a spot in Round 3, but I enjoyed making this a lot, so it's all worth it. Check it out!

SONG: Wow, you weren't kidding when you said this was more Sota-y than the average Venus song. I like!
STEPS: That Sota-y quality really shines through in the steps too, what with all the weird 8th/16th stuff going on. It's technically correct but just kinda feels weird to play regardless. Good steps all around though.
WINNER: Oni-91
Definitely one of Oni-91's better files, Brand New World would have been tough to beat no matter who was matched up against him.

STEPS: Speaking of which, this easily could have been a boss song like Dopamine (but without the messy double-steps and wacky speed-up; now there's a DDR official screaming for a restep) and I'm kinda disappointed you didn't go that route. You still made a good file though, and against someone else you probably would have picked up a vote from me.

STEPS: Expert plays much more like an easy 5 to me than it does a 6. While it's not necessarily a bad chart, it's too much on the light side of things considering what you had to work with in the song and would have been better suited for. was much better and got pretty interesting with the crossovers, but that long 8th stream with the jumps thrown into the middle of it didn't really work IMO.

STEPS: Given what time signature this song is written in, it feels like it would have been more appropriate to step the song at 89.333 BPM* and shift everything to 12ths/24ths (this way the downbeat doesn't keep alternating between falling on a 4th note and falling on an 8th note, instead it would always be a 4th note). This is a nitpick though, the steps are very good.
*Yes I'm totally aware the official BPM is 134, and I don't really understand it.

Well, I'm not really that surprised at all at the results so far, to say the least. This song was definitely a risky choice for me and I wanted to submit something else instead, but real life can get in the way at the worst possible times. Good luck to Feraligatr if you win; you'll definitely need it next round.

No offense, but stepping a bemani song for a ZIv tournament is one of the safest music choices you can make... the risk is very close to 0%.
