Do I kill myself or does she? Because we can't both exist at the same time.

"Charlie isn't real" |
(Damnit Al or Oni for locking the Tsuguru
thread, I was going to post a story behind it but now I have to resort to posting it here for your enjoyment)
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO
You are ALL wrong.
See, the story behind Tsuguru
was that there was a secret location test in Japan for MAX2. During this time, a KONAMI employee was with a few players hired by KONAMI to test out the machine as well as the charts within the game. Because they wanted to get everything squared with the game, they asked the players to test out EVERY chart, Beginner, Light, Standard, Heavy, and Challenge. Without much hesitation, the players agreed. 4 hours pass, after having played through each chart, the players were given a folder with fill-out forms about the location test, the players feedback, etc.
The players filled out the forms and turned in the folders to the KONAMI employee. After heading back to the offices, the developer staff open the folders and begin to read and take notes from the information that was gathered from the location test. Most of the feedback was regarding the new Challenge charts and the Nonstop courses, rated by a numerical system of a 1 to 10 on how well it was being implemented, how the player felt, and the general consensus on the new modes and difficulty. There was one folder that was particularly....strange and out of place.
The folder had no name, and oddly enough, wrote in the third person. His form was written in bad Japanese handwriting but it was still readable. In the feedback section of the form, there was a message that was encrypted in what appeared to be a crimson color. It said:
"NEVER AGAIN. MUST YOU PLAY. THE BLOOD-STAINED MARCH."
Stumped at this encrypted warning, the developers tried to figure out what it meant by searching through his other filled out papers of forms from the test. The anonymous player never left a single note about the machine, rather that same message was written all over the paper in the crimson red print. The staff was getting annoyed and thought, "this must be a trick", and threw away the folder containing the message.
A few months pass and DDRMAX2 was released to the public in Japan. The game was an eccentric release, bringing in many new and old players alike to play the hell out of it and thanks to the unlock system, it became a race to see who could unlock the entire game within a matter of days. A week after the release of the arcade version of MAX2, Konami received a report of a player who fell and broke his arm while playing the arcade game. Konami took no liability because the player takes on responsibility for how they play the game, and also because they post a warning during the loop-video of the game as well as before the player makes any selection. Weeks pass and many reports start to appear from players getting injured through playing the arcade machine, only this time they were more serious. Bruised marks, small scratches, and even some reports of epilepsy were reported from the hospitals taking in the injured players. Konami wanted to get to the bottom of this so they did a bit of an investigation within the communities at the time. They later found out that the injured players had received their injuries by playing the song Tsuguru on the Standard difficulty. While there were many songs that could have resulted in the same injuries (or, what Konami would have thought could result in those same injuries), they never expected it to come from a song that was of medium-difficulty. What was strange about this case was that the players who played the chart reported in seeing strange symbols, the face of an "Oni" (demon), and quick messages that said "DEATH", "KILL", "DIE", all flashing at an incredible speed with a blinding light to the player as they were playing the chart. Along with the quick flashes from the BGM, some have states that the music becomes oddly louder, as in the bass from the sound system sounds like that of a thousand men marching, others say that they here no change in music, but they remember seeing the chart adding notes, notes that progressively get harder and harder as the song is playing.
Konami couldn't stop players from playing one song, particularly one chart, so they had to look through the their original copy of the game to see what was wrong with the chart. Nothing. They didn't find anything wrong with the song or chart or anything in between. So Konami had to check deeper into the files of the original copy of the game, and they noticed something...peculiar about the Tsuguru step chart coding.
Within the code of the
chart, they found an encrypted message that was completely unchecked before the game was released. What was on it chilled the staff to the core:
NEVER AGAIN. MUST YOU PLAY. THE BLOOD-STAINED MARCH.
The obvious reaction to who could have done this was to find the step artists. None of them had any idea how the message got in there, even more so, the person who was in charge of making the chart had no idea how the message was encrypted into the code of the chart. However, one of the step artist claimed it was a "curse" by an ex-employee from Konami, which somehow got the attention of everyone.
The story went that a few year ago, during the 5thMIX era for the staff at Konami, an employee who was making the step charts fell ill and wanted to request a week off. The company declined the request for his break, so the man continued to work with his illness. His symptoms kept getting worse, and worse, and he tried his best to let the company know about his problem, but due to their time constraint with the release of 5thMIX and the development of DDRMAX, they could not afford to let him take even a day off from work. One day, the man showed up to work, pale, covered in sweat, almost lifeless. He sat down at his office, appeared to be working, and then, a gunshot was heard.
The incident was only reported by the local news, it wasn't a grave big deal at the time even if it was a suicide, so time let the incident fly by. The company was at fault to what had happened seeing that the man made many written requests to have a leave of absence for his illness, but no lawsuits were made since the man had no family and was living single, eventually they moved on a few weeks later. Coincidentally, days after the incident occurred, a search through the man's house revealed a note, with bits and traces of blood and mucus that was presumably his final written message went as follows:
"I am in no shape to continue to work. My vision is becoming blurred, I can't stand up for long periods of time, and my ears keep ringing louder and louder every few minutes, like the sound of a march. All I asked was to go see a doctor, but they said no. They rejected me. They wanted me to work harder for their own gain.
I hope they feel my pain and suffering."
Konami was searching for the folder they threw away months earlier, only to realize, it was more than likely thrown out and recycled by that point. They didn't know what else to do except fix the code, send out a patch to each arcade, and let it slide.
There were never any reports of injuries from that one particular song, and for the games that followed, no other reports came from playing Tsuguru on
. It was long rumored that by changing a part of the code within the system got you access to the chart, but Konami has since then locked access to the charts coding by anyone that can get their hands on a machine.
....and that's the story.
