"On ZiV I'm like Princess Diana" |
Here's why people don't like this game.
-Even though we're not supposed to know about them, the fact is we do know about the unlocks, and we would've been pissed as soon as they were unlocked on the JP AC anyways. And yeah, it's nice that we got most of the default KOs, but the fact is that all the best stuff is locked, and we barely got any of that.
-The planet songs excited a lot of people. It was a cool theme, and really suited the name. And we got 1 planet song. One. Not only does that mean that the theme didn't carry over to our CS, but it means that there's a good chance that they'll scatter them across the next 3 or 4 games.
-When SN CS came out, my basic thoughts were "Meh, these arcade songs are alright, but these CS licenses/exclusvies are awesome!". My thoughts for SN2 are "Meh, these CS licenses/exclusives are alright, but these arcade songs are awesome!" What happened to the people who did Shivers, BWHOH, The Other Side, and Video Killed the Radio Star oni? Sure, there's some nice charts here, but IMO they don't really meet up to those standards.
-You can really tell that the game was slapped together. Unwritten's video is not even CLOSE to being on sync with the music, it's a different verse altogether. He Said She Said's video is not even a performance of He Said She Said. Getting Konoko's video was cool, but not having it full screen was pretty lame. Many of the license cuts were pretty bad too. They pulled DS cuts on us, meaning that they pretty much just kept the beginning 1:35 and faded out. Really evident in Strict Machine and Say Goodbye.

First issue: Unwritten's music video was for the standard airplay single, not the remix. Best explanation is, however, that Konami got lazy and tried to sync more "second-to-second" between the remix and the video, irregardless of verse. That being said, if you're watching the video that closely, you're probably either not playing the game or too much of a Natalie Bedingfield fan for your own good.
Second issue: You say that as if Konoko's video has ever appeared in anywhere near large enough of an aspect to be considered "full-screen". IIDX videos on the high-def cabinets can easily be scaled for SDTV resolutions, but, unless they were to remake the Konoko video, scaling it up to full screen would probably be quite the hideous mess.
Honestly, other than having yet another retarded Master Mode game again, I really enjoy this title, Strict Machine notwithstanding (wow, that song gets on my nerves!).

First off, the video for Unwritten is of the radio version, not the Vicious Club Mix. Konami probably had a hard time speeding the entire video up, so they just put it in as it was.
As for the video for He Said She Said, there wasn't an official music video for the song released until last week. They grabbed footage from the High School Musical concert instead and used that.
I think Konami just wanted there to be more background videos. As for the "slapped together" thing...EVERY OTHER licensed video is synced up and edited properly, because they're all videos for the original song. He Said She Said didn't have one and Unwritten's video is for the original song when the version on the game is the remix. I just think Konami tried their best with them and couldn't get the videos to sync.

Actually, it is. There used to be a video on YouTube, but they took it down so I can't link you to it. But they did use the video for the vicious club mix., they simply started on the wrong verse.

Yeah, which would have been fine, except that the video is of a completely different song altogether. She's not performing He Said She Said in that video.

the more is see that song, the more i love it. the more i've played it on stepmania, the more it makes sense. i think konami combined what was right about PSMO(err... everything) and what was right about SN boss songs on oni(pretty much nothing, but they tried to make them technical with the jumps in streams and crossovers galore) and made this, and i like it a lot.
good job with the score, i think thats the highest score i've seen on it yet. i cant wait for it to be unlocked in the arcade. if people like kevin and duk can SDE bloodrush, i'm curious to see what kind of scores turn up when its released in the US.

Pity most of the fun songs are ruined by crap generic stepcharts. Why not make use of all 5 difficulty's konami...?!?
And just for that, I had to make an oni edit of my favorite song on SN2, because it deserved better.
Wish konami made charts like my edit : <

I'm pretty sure Konami has some sort of formula on how hard to make stepcharts, but that's just an assumption on my part altogether.
Plus, I really get the feeling that a lot of their steps, they do for courses. Especially Challenge. (I honestly think they are out to get PAers, and I still lol at the AC SuperNOVA 2 course, frickin NGO)
I think the reason why some people didn't like SN2 was because of how much it didn't compare to SN1. Sure we got bitter and pissed that the NA CS of SN1 didn't have all the SN1 songs in it (KO's and crossovers) but then why put the rest of those songs on SN2?
We got spoiled by Konami because they gave us so many new songs in SN1. Then come SN2, we get songs that us DDR fanatics are already familiar with and heard of before. So for those people (like myself), it's a big let-down. We only have a total of 16 new songs (new KOs and crossovers, not including licenses) and SN1 had a total of 34 new songs. (new KOs and crossovers, not including licenses). That's less than half.
I'm just disappointed that Konami didn't keep that sort of standard going. Plus, I'm sure Konami rushed production of NA SN2 CS.
If Konami is going to call this SN2, I fully expect SN2.5.

I think I know where Konami is going with their release of this somewhat bland version of SuperNOVA 2. I mean obviously Konami doesn't want to release all those songs that diehard DDR fans are dying for (Planet songs, Bloody Tears, and others) while SuperNOVA AC isn't even out yet. I'm surprised and I think that we are lucky that we even got those boss songs.
Konami obviously thinks about money first so after SuperNOVA 2 reaches arcades, I guess it's safe to say that we will get leftovers from SuperNOVA 2 (and SuperNOVA?) The problem is, when is US SuperNOVA AC gonna be released

The current speculation from those bitches at Betson is the first quarter of 2008.
Well, Jason Enos said 2008, but the "first quarter" part is my own speculation.

Well, I finally bought the game and in my opinion, it's ok. I like that they put in songs that I've always wanted (to edit) like Mondo Street and Konoko. I also found the Test Play under the Sound options to be a great feature.
And I've answered my own questions about Edit Mode and Training Mode. Training mode is the same as SuperNova1 although I do wish that they bring back the music when slowing the speed down (I loved listening to MaxX Unlimited on Speed 3)
The scrolling in edit mode is better than SuperNova's scrolling: it's faster and less annoying. And I noticed that they forgot to put a representation of the graph when importing sample data in Doubles.
Weird
Other than that, I'm enjoying the game. Heck I've already made an edit for "And then We Kiss"!
Edit: I'll be damned! It turns out they did put the graph representation under edit data for Doubles... it's just under Single and Couple. So they just forgot to the graphs for Singles under the sample data.

My personal theory on the future of the DDR series is that they will release a SuperNOVA 3 or some similar console release in North America (maybe recycle a name from another region's DDR/DS games, like Strike, Party Collection, or Fusion), then start a new series for the arcades around Konami's PC hardware setup (to bring DDR in line with IIDX and Pop'n Music, which both now use that hardware). But they needed to have songs to put into SN3...

for me, the US CS version of this game is a bit "disappoint"
a lot of licences but a lot of missed songs, I don't know the reason of the missed songs, like the other KONAMI Original Songs or some Planet songs. and only 1 song from DanceMania (now from EMI Japan) (well... in the AC, there are only 2)

Yes, but we also get a lot of good KOs from SN1 AC that weren't in a previous American console release... I'm still of the mindset that complaining about songs that the Japanese gamers still haven't seen yet is pointless, though.

Let's see, we've pretty much have gone over the aspects of SuperNova2 NA but I can't help but wonder: Why did we get get Paranoia Hades and Trip Machine so sudden?
I've been thinking about this all day. We received a game before the arcade, and along with the rumor of Jun remixing Paranoia and Trip Machine (or something like that), I'd figure it would make sense to put those into this mix.
And then it hit me: (not sure if anyone has played Pluto or Pluto Relinquish) If they're to "top" Paranoia and Trip Machine, how hard would the Pluto songs be? Surely they must add it to the next DDR game as the boss songs since we pretty much ran out of catas+ save for MAX. and Paranoia Respect.
Mind you, this is probably me again thinking too much into things and this was the no. 2 thing pooping into my mind today. No. 1 being this girl in school.

Konami usually announces their games in late summer and plans to release them around Fall. So I guess we will just have to wait till then.

Sorry to bust into this thread, but I have a question. I have SN2, and I have a lot of the stuff unlocked. I just can't seem to unlock the areas K and L. Does anyone know what the play values are so you can unlock everything without beating it, like on SN1?
