While we're paying attention to peculiarities in our simfiles I would like to say that I edit using vanilla SM 3.9 and my Edit shows up OK there.

You're supposed to bracket that jump section. That and the length of the stream are all that bring it close to being a 12.
As for the hands, yeah, hands are what I put in charts.

Oni-91: Lionheart82290 posted the request for someone to step the song over a year ago (that's when i made the SX chart), and I haven't seen a post by him since.

My beef isn't as much with the notes as much as the fact that the synths he's using are VERY artificial and dated.

What's happening is that there's 15 files with points, and 16 places to fill. So if it ends like this, who gets the last spot? Also, how are ties broken anyway (if all of those involved vote)?

A couple of songs were really hard for me to decide on since most of these charts are really solid. Good job everyone.

EDIT: Also to deal with this tie situation for slot 16, we could have everyone vote for one song without any votes if worse comes to worse.

Fixed.

I am judging based on my own points system, awarding points for things I don't like. If you score high, I don't like your chart. I'm only judging the DH and DX charts to promote the doubles agenda.
I'll subtract points for things I like only if needed for tiebreaking, or on a whim.

Doublestep: When the player has to use the same foot on two arrows without using the other foot on anything in between in order to remain facing the screen. Holding down a freeze counts as using the other foot only if it goes at least to the second arrow. Fix by moving steps around there isn't a doublestep. Base of 1 point if the arrows are 1/4th or more apart. Base of 2 points if the arrows are 1/8th apart. Base of 3 points if the arrows are 1/12th apart. Base of 4 points if the arrows are 1/16th apart. Add the number of previous doublesteps in the chart to the base to get the total.

Musically inappropriate jump: When the chart has a jump, but the music at that point does not justify the jump. Might be tolerated if they are not in streams. 1/16 points.

Top heavy chart: One that has one or more death streams at the beginning, then drops one or more foot ratings for the rest of the chart. Fix by making the opening a bit easier (reducing movement) and the rest of the chart a bit harder (increasing movement). 2 points.

Bottom heavy chart: The inverse of a top heavy chart. Fix in the same way. 2 points.

Ambiguous step: A step that comes after a jump or two holds that let up at the same time. It is placed equally distant from where the player's feet are, so its placement does not indicate which foot is meant to be used. If the player uses the wrong foot on it, they end up in the wrong position for comes after it. Fix by moving the ambiguous step to be closer to the foot that is meant to be used. 1/4th the points of a doublestep.

Ambiguous start: When the first step is ambiguous. For singles, this means starting with an up or a down arrow. For doubles, this means starting with an assumed previous position other than R1L2. Starting with L1 or R2 are also considered unambiguous. 1 point.

Misleading step: Similar to an ambiguous step, but the step is placed closer to the foot that should not be used to hit it. Same fix as for an ambiguous step. 1/2 the points of a doublestep.

Politician step: Similar to a misleading step, but the step is placed under the foot that should not be used to hit it. Same fix as for a misleading step. Counts as a doublestep.


I dislike bottom heavy and top heavy charts. To me, a bottom heavy chart capriciously snatches victory away at the last moment. A top heavy chart promises a certain level of difficulty in the beginning, but then does not deliver.

As you can see, you can really rack up the points if you put in a lot of doublesteps. Before you know it, you'll be right at the top of my "never play their files again" list. Keep it up, and you can rank higher than Konami.


Aegis DX:
1 point. Doublestep at the end of m6.
5 points. Doublestep at the end of m8. It counts as two because a player that knows it's there will doublestep to hit L2, D2, and L2 again with their right foot.
4 points. Doublestep at the beginning of m58.
2 points. Bottom heavy chart.
I would change the anchor streams to not be anchor streams, and instead move the player around the pads. Something slightly less complicated than the stream in m59-60 would be more fun.
Then, change the ending streams to have a little less movement, particularly taking out the candles.
Doing both would smooth out the transition from easy 9 to hard 10 territory.
Total: 12 points.

Artificial Man DH:
1/2 point. Misleading step at the beginning of m36.
1.5 points. The stream in m40 is much easier when started with the right foot, making that the assumed intended footing, but that requires doublestepping before an after the stream.
Total: 2 points.

Flux DH:
1/2 point. Misleading step in m22.
2 points. I dislike crosspad staircases on doubles. Especially when they're done in a crossed-over position.
1/4 point. Ambiguous step in m49.
Total: 2.75 points.

M.A.D. DH:
2 points. Doublestep in m6.
3 points. Doublestep in m8.
4 points. Doublestep in m21.
5 points. Doublestep in m22.
8 points. Doublestep at the beginning of m26.
6 points. Politician step at the beginning of m27.
7 points. Politician step at the beginning of m29.
8 points. Facing away step in m37.
9 points. Politician step at the beginning of m40.

Nah Douchebag DH:
1 point. m55-m60 are based around fast pad changes, while the rest of the chart is based around technical turns. The music sounds identical to the beginning to me. DM does not have this style change.
