Alright, so I guess that the red buttons that appears when there's a new message on the forums page was run by javascript as well? 'cause I don't see any on the Forums Navigation. (they're visible when entering a forum though)

There was a slight hiccup with the site a few hours ago. I disabled it then to see if it'd make a big difference, but I don't think there is.

I'll re-enable it in a few minutes.

Hopefully my host will find out what's wrong with the database recently. The stupid slowing down of the site in certain times is pissing other people off no doubt.

I sent a ticket to my host stating the following facts, keeping in mind the database server is shared between a few users:

1. The problem cropped up suddenly rather than gradually when I've not made any sudden major changes to the site code.
2. DreamHost said they disabled the database which made the database server load drop 74 points from 80 to 6; however, when they said they "disabled" it, they didn't even disable it and the load still went to 6. This point alone proves it's not my database causing the problem.
3. If my four year old PC can host the site fine with every page loading under 0.5 seconds, I don't see how a fully fledged shared server isn't handling this site fine.

Based on these points, I think someone else on the server is causing it rather than this site.

I agree. On your time, I noticed that the site slows down at around 10 am (5 am EST).

I noticed the first point last week. I originally thought that it was someone mass downloading. After observing for the past week, I doubted that anyone would be downloading at such an odd time.

I just hope this doesn't happen again, or something that serious.

Oh god, that was a huge nightmare, although that was a host-wide issue.

The problem we're experiencing seems to only happen with our database server at the moment and they keep throwing the blame on Zenius.

I fail to see how a computer more powerful and with 4GB RAM fails to deliver the site slower than my 4 year old PC with 1GB RAM. Maybe I should switch hosts when this hosting period ends on May 2010.

Bump: And oh look, the problem is occurring again, now it's taking more than 10 seconds just to update the bloody hit counter in a picture.

I see what you mean. It took me a minute to load this page.

I guess it's time to start looking for a new host then.

Shouldn't be too hard right? If the hosting period is negotiable, settle for two years instead of 4

OK disabled the forum last read thing again just to see if it makes a difference.

If it does, then it's really stupid considering the forum index takes 0.2s to load on my home PC with that on.

Update: It didn't make a bloody difference, re-enabled, to hell with it.

I'm using Empress theme for ziv .
I find "the pink color part" is not glitering as it was before.
(I think it'll be better with the glitter pinky one).

I confess, I am mass downloading at times. But I don't know what 5 am EST is in phil. time. And besides I'm also affected, especially at times when there's little, if any user's logged on.

But here, at around 1 am, there are a lot of online users. And it's 2:05 pm here right now.

I"m not the least bit sleepy. And you wouldn't be the culprit as the problem is still popping up. It takes half a minute to load each page and to post a reply.

It happens on most of the times I feel like logging in, then when I pick a topic to reply to, the 500 hits me with it's very bright white bg.

To be on-topic, here are some suggestions I thought of.
"sent items" on private messages
searching posts, not just titles on the forum search function (this is a gripe)
"who's viewed me" on profile (debatable)
"who's rated me" on user ratings

User rating is a bad idea. It'll create drama and people will rate others out of spite.

I don't think that many people use private messaging on this site. I was looking through my PMs and saw that I had the majority of PMs based on the url id. I really don't know anybody else that uses the PM system over here.

yeah, it's a sign of immaturity, which is why I withdrew the -5 I gave Kyzentun in relation to my former sig.
But i'm innocent on his 30 point drop.
Sometimes I read my past private messages, then I think "what did I reply to him/her?"

points/token system (not needed, but makes sense to the simefile creators)

That's why I always quote what has been sent to me as you might have noticed from our PMs. I also ask the person I talk to to do the same to minimize any confusion as to what the PMs about.

I dislike the token idea, sorry. I just see no point in it, considering that there are people over at BMS that hack for TOKENS of all things!

well it's used to buy sets (avatar + sig) on AAF. but I do like the dodgy things you can do to you user account using tokens.

the ability to log-in anonymously (appear offline)
the choice "not set" on gender at user options
on dark contrast, I can't see the textboxes when I'm searching/replying
the permission to continue speaking in local language on the regional forums

You have permission to speak the local language on the regional forums, unless Al went in the designated thread and said not to (I haven't checked the Region thread since New Year). Don't listen to anyone else if they say otherwise.

I agree with the textboxes as the outlines completely disappear when using the dark contrast. It makes it hard to type a PM.
