Still no word about a Touhou collab? Cuz that seems to be the only reason for me to give a shit about modern DDR tbh.

Please note that play data from previous versions of "DanceDanceRevolution A20 PLUS" cannot be carried over.

Well, shit. I'm about to move from someplace where we only have A20Plus, and WORLD will probably be out by then.

Thank god they're adjusting a bunch of charts and their timing. Will NGO finally not be total ass to play...?

It's been a while since we had a good old fashioned D2R from MAX2 to Extreme "fix" and this is Konami we are talking about. Don't rule anything out.

It's cool that they're unlocking Challenge only songs for everyone, that's an awesome change. Combine this with website options being available in game, and it's exactly as it should be. Not all arcades have eamusement cards in person, not everyone cares to order one. Not much that can be done for individual unlocks from this standpoint, but basic things like speed mods, filters, and 20 year old songs should just be there. Extra Stage with gauges other than LIFE4 is cool too. I wonder if they mean Flare can be used as well, or if you can just play with the normal gauge? Honestly I think restricting it to LIFE4 is just there for the sake of how it's been done since SN2, and needs to go. Step chart difficulties themselves should be the only gate between a player and the song they're playing and extra self imposed restrictions should be optional. I like what I'm reading (except for special events, I mean after a song is unlocked for everyone to play).

This has been announced for A MONTH? I can't believe this is the first time I've heard of it. I'd like to be excited, and am still somewhat excited for the surge of simfiles to come with its release, but the prospects of one coming close to me, of coming to Canada at all soon after release are... well none. There are no prospects.

lmao

The only Bemani series death that would signal the end of Bemani as a whole is IIDX.

I don’t think their sales will be damaged. I think they will do much better in fact if they completely scrap the announcer. I mean it’s 2024 and having an announcer is a little outdated. More people are gonna enjoy the game and will attract more players without dreadful screaming duo. I don’t even know why announcers existed in the first place. Most rhythm games don’t have announcers. So why DDR. But I am super hyped to play this game. Whether it’s better or worse then the previous installments I don’t care. It’s refreshing and that is all that matters to me.

"Most rhythm games don't have announcers."
One thing I know outside Japan is the Pump It Up series, since Andamiro doesn't sell their own soundtrack and they have many conditions with licensed songs (J-Music, K-Pop, and World Music) being in the game with clean audio so as to attract the audience without distractions in the game. But it's just my opinion about copyright and redistribution rights. In Japan, the songs featuring in arcade rhythm video games are promoted from different music labels, commissioned artists, and in-house artists more than just being added to the game for everyone to enjoy with written charts. They are all before the game soundtrack is released (and outside artists' promotion of licensed songs before or after they release their own album) and then the next game iteration is announced. It's a cycle.

Other rhythm games such as pop'n music, IIDX, GF&DM, jubeat, Nostalgia, and SOUND VOLTEX are simply key-sounded within the bms files, so they don't need to put announcers during the game since the in-game song being tuned by any player is not as perfect as the actual music. More games like REFLEC BEAT, BeatStream, DanceEvolution, DANCERUSH, and DANCE aROUND add sound effects every time you play a note or dance pattern just to keep the song more protected from being copied.

But anyway. Me, too! I am hyped to see what's new in DDR WORLD~ ^^

^does the PC version of IIDX still have autoplay like the PS2 versions did? We have very clean audio of various Another versions from back then because of autoplay, which got around the human error aspect of key sounding.

So all we get for any sort of indication of what's in the chart is tiny icons showing that they have shock arrows, speed changes (the jagged arrow), or stops (the !!).

Again, why give up the groove radar all of a sudden? IIDX and SDVX both adopted something similar, and it's not like there isn't still space for it in the UI as long as they were willing to sacrifice a little visibility on the big-ass character arts.

I am... really hoping a lot of this is still just undercooked website previews, which itself is concerning if the game releases in two days.

This just feels like someone said, "yeah, whatever, they'll play it" and shoved it out the door.

Edit: I just had the thought that there's the possibility that a lot of the music licenses are expiring and not being renewed, and they're dressing up that event as A New Version. And unfortunately that new version really doesn't look like it's ready to go, but time's run out.
