So we have PARANOiA Revolution today and that got me thinking. People used to HATE all the bosses from X2. Look at any thread from 10+ years ago and it's all about how bad the charts are. Now no one cares and some of them are "good". Valkyrie Dimension didn't even make the tournament and I thought it would (in fact Paranoia's the only 19 here). Do you guys think people overhated back then, are we just used to bad 18s, or something else?

I'm at a loss this round. 3 of these charts aren't really all that bad overall. And MEGALOVANIA is clearly done as a joke so it feels counterintuitive to give it points. I give no points this round, and not because I fear that Sans is gonna murk me......

Have people forgotten how much of a mess Paranoia Revolution is? Please go rewatch it. Megalovania is annoying, but it's coherent. The funny obnoxious bits go to something, it's trying to hurt your feet and soul and it does a good job.

Megalovania's nonsense makes sense for the source material. PARANOiA Rev is probably the worst 19, due to all the double steps.

Also, I don't remember people hating on X2 boss songs that much. Pretty sure Anti Matter was considered the best 18 back then, and the amount of new 14s and 17s was welcome at the time to bridge the gaps leading up to 18s.

Megalovania has shock arrows. It loses by default. The others aren't bad charts and Paranoia Revolution is actually pretty tame compared to a lot of customs that are considered good.

I remember Sunkiss Drop’s release. It wasn’t liked at the time, with the two camps being ‘NO KONAMI, THIS IS NOT A 7’, and ‘OH NO A CROSSOVER, BURN THE HERETIC’. ‘s alright. Not one I would play on the regular, but it’s alright.

The issue I have with Megalovania's chart is that it does not look like it was ever intended to be a shock arrow chart, but someone decided to just fill every gap with a shock arrow without questioning if they had a musical purpose or fit a difficulty curve. Blargh. Way to utterly ruin an otherwise perfectly decent chart. I've seen people defend it as "it's a reference to boss attacks", but there's a clever way to implement that sort of thing, and this is not it.

LDa's BPM gimmicks are poorly executed versions of ANTI ANTHEM's. TRIP MACHINE (xac nanoglide mix) just has to be one of the worst, if not the worst 16s I have ever seen.
