Both times I went to Round1 in Colorado there was at most one other person playing DDR. Granted it has 2 PIU stations, and another dance game that I don't know the name of.

In Washington (state), I usually have to wait a set or two, but it's not that bad.

If I want to really grind, I have stepmania.

"that's crazy"

Last updated: 2018-10-23 07:52pm
There's one thing that's always bothered me about DDR Extreme USA since I first bought it. When I looked at the unlockables list on the internet, it implies that the first 6 unlockables are unlocked in this order:

Scorching Moon
Trip Machine
321 Stars
Make it better
You're not here
Keep on movin'

The 2 songs in red are supposed to be swapped. Literally every site I went to says you unlock Make it better by completing 25 songs and Keep on movin' by completing 40 songs, when in my copy of DDR Extreme it's the other way around. It's something like this:

Scorching Moon
Trip Machine
321 Stars
Keep on movin'
You're not here
Make it better

Does anyone else have a copy of DDR Extreme that has Keep on movin' as the 4th unlockable song like my copy does? Or is my copy a dusty disc that glitched the game bad enough to swap the unlockable order?

Extreme CS US is a mess, so you can chalk that up to KONMAI probably.

The fuck you mean "DDR doesn't get anything nice"?

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

EXTREME US is an amazing game that doesn't get nearly the love it deserves. People always compare it to its Japanese brother, but I think it stands alone as a great compilation with a unique interface. I like that the US team wasn't afraid to take chances so early on. Could've gone the normal route and gave us a simple port of the OG, but we got some jukebox action with a tasty Mission Mode (bullshittingly difficult, but still tasty), one of the best unlock systems in any of the CS titles (actual consistency is always a plus), and it gave us some wonderful exclusives I still find myself drawn to now over a decade later.
Chalk it up to nostalgia if you must, but I'll always defend EX US until the day I die.

Absolutely this. I think the tracklist is fantastic and is accompanied by a rewarding unlock system that doesn't feel rushed or terribly difficult. The UI isn't that easy on the eyes and MEMORIES would have never been discovered if not for Burger King, but in terms of gameplay and soundtrack, I think it's really good. My opinion is also probably pretty biased since Extreme CS US was my first DDR game, but even playing it today I don't see many problems with it that ruin my experience.
Extreme CS US is my hill to die on.

I agree with everything you said except the stuff about the interface. I still think the interface is a pile of vomit. The dance play bug was also annoying. But i will defend everything else about Extreme US

I mean, the dance play bug basically meant that certain pads were unplayable... I'd say that's a pretty major 25/30% knocked off the game's score right then and there.

I mean i always played it with a hacked save that had them turned off. Which shouldn't even be necessary, but idk i just never thought it was nearly as bad as people made it out to be even with that

"that's crazy"
After reading all of your comments, I'm glad I don't have to hide that I thought Extreme USA was one of the greatest North American DDR games of all time. I was always afraid to say so because of all the hate that game had. Yeah, it may not have had 100+ songs, but the song list was still amazing. If there was a way to see your play time on the game, I bet it would say something along the lines of 80+ hours for me.

I can comfortably say that I don't share you guys' passion for the title. That'll always be SuperNOVA and DDR II for me in the "BEST CS EVAR" category.

Edit: Not there's anyone wrong with you guys' liking Extreme. All DDR love is a good thing. Smile

I mean, i wouldn't say it's my favorite. For me that would be Extreme 2 and DDR II for the Wii. I just think people tend to be way too harsh on Extreme US CS when in it's really not bad at all

It's really not bad but I think the song select menu is fugly (and lacking the groove radar) and there's not many songs in the game that I love, especially the licenses. But I know a few people IRl that claim it's their favorite game in the series.

I respect everyone's opinion, even while I myself have a completely weird opinion. My favorite CS DDR game is between these 3: Extreme US, Hottest Party 2, and Ultramix 2.
