Remember, many people asked about special cabinets and new hardware in the TERRA blogs so Naoki "stepped" in and got the Japanese a brand new awesome cabinet Too bad he didn't step into helping America and Europe.

I think NAOKI's actually been planning this for quite some time. I remember Mieya posting an interview with NAOKI that some magazine had done in which he said he wanted to "step back" from the front lines of music producing for DDR, and that's why you are seeing a more diverse set of artists for KOs rather than just having it being mostly NAOKI. If you noticed in HP2, a ton of NAOKI songs were actually remixed by Ruffage or Darwin or whomever, yet the originals weren't present. My guess is that NAOKI made very, very basic quick songs, and then gave them to these artists to make into "actual" songs. After all, I'm sure he's been getting ready to become producer for quite some time now.

It's funny thinking about the vocalists BEMANI artists choose over the years. On the questionable side of the spectrum, we have NAOKI and dj TAKA who are extremely hit and miss and have had some extreme vocal losers among their winners. I wonder why that happens, if they really think those vocalists are great or they don't want to be rude and can the song once it's recorded?
On the other end of the spectrum, U1 and Sota Fujimori just about always choose great vocalists. Not sure where U1 gets them, but Sota was smart to use Ebony Fay and Brenda Vaughn.
I want more DIVAS.

Strangely, it seems that lately NAOKI has trouble staying with vocalists. In the past, he wasn't afraid of using the same vocalist for many, many songs, but it seems that lately he only wants to do a few songs with a particular vocalist and then move on.

I seem to remember a "Staff Information" thing which expands on this, but I don't think they're on the Konami website anymore.
It's one of the last DDRMAX 2 blog posts from Naoki, where he mentions that EuroMIX 2 is coming out, and that it will have the original recordings of Breakdown, Destiny and L'amore Et La Liberte on it.
He explains why Crash was re-recorded with female vocals, why Vanity Angel was given vocals, and why Memories was scrapped at the very last minute, and replaced by Destiny.
I think it had notes from the guy who sung Crash, as well.

I think part of the problem is that he's been using vocalists outside Japan, who aren't always at his beck and call to sing his songs. Alison Wade, TAYA, and others have careers outside DDR and are actively busy with those in places that aren't Japan, whereas back in the day, for example, PAULA TERRY's career was pretty much based entirely in Japan so she was frequently available. I'm not sure why they've recently been using an assortment of totally random vocalists from the States (i.e. the HP2 crew). Cheap? But hardly convenient...Where did AiMEE go anyway? Best English vocalist dj TAKA ever used.
