I looked up the interview that included the "ending A, B, or C" phrase I quoted. Okay, it took place in January. I'll give you that two months is enough time for something to come up and require a new ending. However, while I was about, I also found another interview just a week before release date in which Casey Hudson claims that the game would have "many different endings". A week before relase date, I would certainly hope he's fully aware of what he's putting out. Now I'm aware that "many" is a fairly relative word, but one ending with different-colored explosions (oh, and whether or not Joker's eyes glow at the end because that's important) is not what most people would call "many" or "different".


No, the final battle is already decided, not the endings.

Shepard dies? Joker has to give TIM the final report.
Shepard lives and some others don't? Shepard gives his report, and as the closing music plays, he pays his respects to the fallen.
Everyone lives? Shepard gives his report, and the crew is shown helping to rebuild the Normandy.
Throw in assorted dialogue depending on your choice of the Collector Base's fate and how you deal with TIM's reaction to your decision.

These are different endings for ME2. Yes, from the beginning to the end, you're made aware that your job for the game is to flatten the Collectors and nothing will change that. However, the loyalty missions you complete beforehand and the choices you make during the suicide mission determine who's going to survive to see the next game. Your choices mattered there. The ending changed quite a bit because of it.

Fast-forward to ME3. From the beginning, you know you're going to bring together a bunch of races to fight back against the Reapers. That much we know is set in stone. However, we thought we'd also be getting multiple endings as a result of how well we brought the galaxy together. Instead, the same guy who saved the Rachni Queen and cured the Genophage gets the same ending as the guy who bailed out Aralakh Company and let the Krogan face potential extinction. Yup, that "your choices make a difference" feeling is making a huge impact, tell you what. But I guess expecting what was promised to the fans is just me feeling "entitled". Good-mannered gamers are expected to silently let Bioware shit all over their faces and smile about it.

Not once does he say that he's a VI for the Citadel. He claims the Citadel is part of him, and that he created the Reapers because his wonderful circular logic of "killing people with synthetics so they won't be killed by synthetics" decided it would be a good idea. And according to the wiki, a VI is primarily used to assist a user and process data, not create genocidal machines to harvest intelligent organic life every 50k years.

What say we get into these plotholes I'm obviously not thinking about, shall we?

If you played The Arrival DLC for ME2, you might remember it was about blowing up a Mass Relay that the Reapers were going to use as a backdoor to the galaxy. Thing is, once you blow it up, it detonates with enough force to destroy that entire star system, taking out a Batarian colony with billions on it. Nearly every Batarian you meet chooses to remind you of this during ME3. So in ME3's ending when you blow up every single Mass Relay in existence, and somehow it doesn't destroy every single system containing one, that's not a plothole, right? Or am I just not thinking?

What about when Joker is piloting the Normandy through the Mass Relay before it blows up? Last I checked, the battle on Earth is still going on. Why is Joker suddenly bitching out after 2.9 games' worth of loyalty, and why did he pick up the crew that's on Earth but not actually pick Shepard up? You're not on the Citadel for very long before you make your choice, and in that time, Joker's already picked up your crew and is long on his way. Or am I just not thinking again?

Also, I'd like to know why in the "destroy synthetics" ending, Shepard is shown to be (barely) alive when we saw the Citadel blow up with him on it. I would imagine if a space installation that large blew up, the explosion would kill him, and if he survived the explosion, being sucked into the vacuum of space for a second time would get him. Or am I just not thinking again?


ME3 didn't have different endings. You had red explosions, green explosions, and blue explosions. Yeah, I'm aware of what resulted because of them. Synthetic life dies, you sacrifice your mortal body to control the Reapers, or you fuse organics and synthetics into a new lifeform. Sure, you know what's implied, but visually, that's it. Players expected a bit more. For example, seeing the actual results of our choice even a month after the decision took place would be great, not just seeing whether or not EDI steps out of the crashed Normandy or if Joker glows in the dark or not.


You're giving them too much credit. They already debunked that theory. What we see is what we got. God-child and space magic.

This will be my last post to you on this subject. The more you talk, the more I'm convinced you're just trolling, because it's incredibly difficult to believe that anyone would find this ending to be "mature and intellectual", just as how it's probably incredibly difficult for someone like you to believe that anyone wouldn't drink Bioware's piss and call it champagne as happily as you do. But who knows, maybe one of these days, I'll stop being "entitled" and having some degree of standards and instead I'll just bend over, grab my ankles, and happily take whatever I'm given, because that's what mature intellectuals do.

It's a shame that you've resolved to never talk about again, and that you're so bitter about it. I'd love to actually have someone to discuss the game with. Especially someone with the kind of tenacity that it takes to make a giant wall of text (which I did read). At first I thought you were speaking about the backlash from a 3rd person perspective. Now I see that you're part of it. So anything I say, no matter how logical, will get cataloged as "trolling".

What I really don't like, Howie, is that you and others like you wouldn't even accept a good explanation at this point. Bioware could completely justify and explain everything in details that even children would understand and it would get rejected because you've all already locked yourselves into hatred for them and their series over this.

It's just a game. And at Bioware's own admission, it's not over yet. Either enjoy it or walk away. Don't sit there and get mad at the people who had a good time when you didn't. I'm wondering now... what science fiction that you've played/watched/read ended in a way that you liked?
