Just finished Mass Effect 3, got all three endings thanks to my trusty OCD, and...

...

The sub-sect of the Mass Effect fanbase that is raging about how the series ends is confirmed for the single most massively insane junkhurt and buttbothered group of people in the history of all mankind. Okay maybe not that bad, but pretty damn close.

That was the best science fiction I've experienced in a long while. The people complaining about the ending are the children who need to have that big red reset button hit so they can get a Happily Ever After ending. I'm damn proud of Bioware for making something this intellectual and mature and built upon permanent change and growth. There's no good reason to put everything back where it started, the story is over and it ended better than most.

Now to go play KOTOR for the first time ever...

Another person who thinks the ME fans are upset just because it's not a fairy tale ending. How cute.

No, the Mass Effect fans are upset because we didn't get any of the closure we were promised.

Before the game released, Casey Hudson said in an interview that this game would tie everything up, and that there would be no unanswered questions. But then people see the ending, get angry about it, and Casey suddenly decides that he wanted "Lots of speculation for everyone!" He flat-out lied before the game came out, and told us that any loose ends would be tied up, when he knew good and well that he only planned on loosening more. Not to mention, in his own words, he said "It's not even in any way like the traditional game endings, where you can say how many endings there are or whether you got ending A, B, or C." Think about it though. At the end of the game, your choices are Control, Destruction, or Synthesis. Ending A, B, and C is exactly what we got.

No, it's not the lack of "Happily Ever After" that gets us. Hell, when they said this would be the end of Shepard's story, a lot of us fully expected Shepard to die. However, we expected it to happen for a good reason, not because a space-magical God-child that was literally introduced in the last seven minutes of the game realized his idea of "making machines to kill everyone so they wouldn't be killed by machines" was a tad flawed and needed the next random person who showed up to pick an outcome for him. That's okay though, because introducing last-second characters, space magic, and SUV-sized plotholes in the last ten minutes of a story is "intellectual and mature", right? And people who disagree are "junkhurt and buttbothered". Mature indeed.

I'm not saying Mass Effect is awful because of this. In its entirety, it's probably my favorite sci-fi series to date, with loads of characters that I found myself genuinely caring about. However, when you have a great story going, and you piss all over it with last-second garbage writing and three different flavors of the same ending, it leaves me with no more reason to play the game again after the first time.

I finally got to The End on Minecraft. Once I reached the end credits, oh my goodness. Stay my side by DJ YOSHITAKA was playing. I even asked my friends that was on the server, they confirmed it was Stay my side is playing. Anyone else know about it?

I don't think I'll ever be good enough to beat the Enderdragon, but that's pretty interesting.

That's not how it looks from my end. I didn't follow the development of any of the games because I started playing the first one days before the 3rd was released. I'm going to guess and say that those things were said before the game was finished, right? Game development causes things to change and evolve and you can't call someone a liar when they have one idea and later on have another possibly due to a multitude of different reasons (production time, resources, command decisions, technical difficulties, to name a few).

And getting upset that the game has a single way of ending and the choices only (heh, and literally) color that ending is stupid. Mass Effect 2 ended with an attack on the Collectors. No matter what choices you make, you have to attack the Collectors. That's bullshit, right? That their story is still their story and all you can do is change the way it's experienced through your decisions. Screw Bioware, right? That kind of attitude is the very definition of entitlement and I can feel confident that even after dropping school yard insults in humor I'm not nearly that bad off.

You only call them plot holes and space magic because you didn't think about what was happening. Seriously, the child is not a god, it's the VI for Citadel, he says so himself. The Reapers were created by the same group that created the Citadel (not the Protheans, something far older) It spent the whole game watching over you until you, not anyone else, you made it to the Catalyst. and with the Crucible docked and you standing there as proof that the cycle is no longer useful, it allows you to decide how the cycle is broken... depending on how well you played of course.

Also, there's more than three ways to end the game. There are three major choices, but all previous choices made (yes, even the ones dating back to the first Mass Effect) change how those choices play out. On top of that there are secrets and hints that tell a much larger story depending on how you played. Then there's the whole indoctrination theory... and if even part of that is true then the writers at Bioware are absolute geniuses. and if it's totally wrong, they still wrote a crazy amazing story that I enjoyed from beginning to ends.

tl;dr spoiler-free summary, the ending is better than most people are giving it credit for because it requires you to listen and think.

So, the DJ gig I was all excited about was last night. I've never spun a DJ set anywhere near as amazing as I did last night. Despite technical difficulties early on (not during my set, during the main DJ's first set) it was the most successful rave our anime club has thrown.

Speaking of all this Mass Effect, I put myself aside for this night to finally finish my first playthrough of ME3. I'm not quite sure what to think of the ending. I am actually speechless. I'm not even sure in a bad way or a good way.
