The interesting part about Yes Man is that in real life, Jim Carrey was trained by a DDR expert just for that scene.
Makes me wonder if there really are DDR machines in bars...

I wonder which expert... It's funny cause he's dancing way too hard for the arrows that you see on the screen.
To date, the most realistic depiction of DDR in movies is Jean Reno in Wasabi. 5thMIX represent.

And Props to Wasabi using an actual song DDR players would recognize instead of some corny generic techno music that films use when they show DDR or fake DDRs in their works.

I wonder which was done better, this or the scene from Yes Man?
Come to think of it what about The FP?

Between Wasabi and Yes Man...
IMO Yes Man wins and here is why:
+ = Pros. - = Cons.
Wasabi:
+Takes place in an arcade.
+Players are actually playing the song in time.
+Jean Reno appears to actually be playing the song.
+Based on a real DDR game: DDR 5th Mix from Japan.
+Dive comes from DDR 5th Mix.
-Jean Reno enters the song from the beginning on the screen even though it's towards the end of the song.
-the game doesn't display the 2nd player on the 2nd machine failing.
-Both players would of had to have failed on the 2nd machine for that to seem real.
-The reactions from the others make it seem like he is the only one to have failed the song.
-The music plays beyond the FAILED screen.
-Is somehow being connected together through 2 machines playing the song at once, even though they should be seperate.
Yes Man:
+Takes place in a local bar (because they can, like Ground Kontrol arcade in Portland, OR).
+Carrey is actually playing a song from DDR Supernova.
+Jim Carrey appear to actually be playing the game on Heavy.
+Flowers is a song from DDR Supernova.
+Music is cut to fit time (for obvious reasons).
+Looks like he is enjoying it more than Jean Reno who is like whatever.
+More gameplay is shown than in Wasabi.
+Actually needed to learn how to play the game for the movie.
-Doesn't show the actual chart at the correct moments, but gets the tempo right.
-Misses several notes at the end we don't see.
-Song ends, and doesn't go to the results screen or the announcer also like in Wasabi.
-Does more moves than he needs to in the scene, but then again he's suppose to be drunk.
BONUS
The FP:
+Players appear to play the game correctly (although over the top).
+So bad you can't believe you saw it twice.
-Fictional representation of the game.
-Game is being played off a DVD thans to the obvious Pause button on screen.
-There's no completely drunk off your ass mode in ddr (maybe in stepmania, but not like in the movie).
-Used as means of territorial dominence between drinking and drugs.
-Fictional game modes.
-Doesn't show that much gameplay with the main focus being the underground war between dance crews.
Now someone should do Grandma's Boy.

watch the scene on youtube and I'm not impressed.
-/+First they are playing on a Xbox kiosk running Ultramix 2. was kind of expecting what was seen in Wasabi and Yes Man. As far as I know (i know I'm going to be wrong about this so I may stand corrected) there are no known kiosks that had DDR Ultramix 2 demo set up. (again I may be wrong about that and I stand corrected). I chose -/+ cause I think this was a kind of give and take on it.
+MAKE A JAM! and DEAD END were used.
- feels very choreographed especially when the 2nd actor played, which leads me to believe that someone else was playing the game and then just overlaped the game play footage to make it look like he was actually playing it.

DDR also appeared in Music & Lyrics. If I remember correctly, it was one of the Ultramixes.
There's also a reference to it in Gravity Falls.

The bar in that picture makes the game unplayable. btw, Looks like the concept was from a SOLO Cabinet.

As we all know, Innocence of Silence ESP has 296 combos. However, only 32 of them are quarter notes. That's approximately 10.8% of the chart.

Ugly Betty and Will & Grace also feature DDR in one of their episodes each:
(starts at 41:29)
Yes, it's coreographed but I give them props for using an actual song of the game it's played (Keep Ya Body Movin').
This one only depicts a 5thMIX cabinet and some gameplay.

in DDR Supernova2 English Arcade release.. in the name entry screen you can see a DDR SuperNova 2 Cabinet at the bottom but if you look closely it isnt a English Cabinet it is a JPN cabinet. You can see the E-Amusement stuff on the side.

Thats not a secret or anything and they did it on purpose because e-amuse was planned to be released with SuperNOVA 2 but the service seemed to have been heavily delayed and only one arcade chain at the time wanted to support it. Also the cabinet isn't Japanese, we got the same cabinets in America as well except ours had small differences and was not painted red.Post #1714 · Posted at 2013-06-28 04:24:49am 11.9 years ago

Butterfly is the only 1st Mix license to make an appearance in an Xbox game. It's also the only 1st Mix song in DDR 5th Mix.
Butterfly and Let's Get Down are the only 1st Mix licenses to make an appearance in a PS2 game.

If this is something that was mentioned already, please let me know.
The version of MAKE IT BETTER (So-REAL MIX) used in ULTRAMIX4 is slightly different than the version used in other titles in the series. This is the version usually found in most DDR titles; this is the version found on ULTRAMIX4. The most notable change is the bass, which is mixed at a significantly higher volume than the regular version.

"Ignorance is not bliss" |
Dunno if anybody knows about this, but you can make glitched edit files in DDR MAX2, DDR Extreme, DDR Extreme 2, and DDR X (CS US games). I've mentioned it once on this site but was ignored =/
It took a few times of experimenting, but here's how I managed to get the edit files to glitch. There's no need to manipulate any data. The data manipulates itself.
-Go to Edit mode and pick a song. Choose to make a couples chart.
-On the P1 side, make your chart, whatever you like, but don't use triple/green arrows. Adding a bunch of freeze arrows could do something magical... more on that later. Also add a bunch of random arrows at the end of the song...
-On the P2 side place a bunch of random arrows and long freeze arrows. At one part of the chart, add a few triple/green arrows.
-Save
-Go to the game mode and play single player for the P1 side (it's the side that doesn't have the green/triple arrows).
-If you're lucky, then the chart you made on the P1 side the will be quite different. What will happen is a bunch of the arrows that you placed at the bottom of the P1 chart will magically be moved to the top where your chart starts. This could result in 3 arrows coming at you at the same time. However, sometimes these arrows will be unhittable, and it'll force you to miss. Also, a few arrows from the P2 side will also be moved onto the P1 side. This can also cause 3 arrows to appear at the same time, however these are ALWAYS hittable. The last thing that could happen is that most freeze arrows will actually become much longer in length. How long? Well strangely long. Since the freeze arrows become much longer, the arrows that would come after the freeze arrows still come after the freeze arrows, but they will overlap the freeze arrows. Yes, you heard me, you will have arrows appear on top of your freeze arrows, something which is not replicable in Stepmania. Also this stacks with the "3 arrows coming at you at a time", so the file can become quite crazy.
-If the file didn't glitch, you can go back into edit mode and add some more green arrows, or change the location of the green arrows and try playing it again.
-If you try playing with 2 players, the file will look exactly how you made it in Edit Mode.
-This doesn't work well in DDRMAX2 because the arrows that would overlap the long freeze arrows will be hidden underneath the long freeze arrows, so if you don't know where the arrows are they will be easy to miss.
-I tried this with DDR X2, and I couldn't get it to work. Was this where they fixed the value of the triple/green arrows?
Proof? I unfortunately don't have any. I don't have a PS2 anymore. Though anyone who doubts me can go try and make one. Doesn't take too long to make.

Aaron G. is one of the vocalists in Naoki's rave songs, such as B4U.
Is it me or is he the same Aaron G. who did the vocals of Bust a Move 2's "The Heat is On"...

On a related note (assuming it wasn't pointed out earlier), The opening line of "I Know" from Bust a Groove 1 was also used in "Put Your Faith in Me" (or was it the other way around).

The font that Konami used for the artist on CUTIE CHASER's banner from Supernova-X was the same font that Konami used in DDR Supernova's graphics & Interface. Also, the same font that was used for the artist on CUTIE CHASER's album art is the same font that Konami used for the judgments (Marvelous, Perfect, etc.) in X3.
