There had better be a damn good reason if they push it back; October's almost 2 years since X was released!
They would probably push it back so they can release piss-poor US cabinets and not bother making upgrade kits for machines that actually work.

And panels made out of wood.
Maybe they're growing the tree first.

Panels made out of wood isn't immediately a negative. I made some pads which are duct metal covering wood and they've held up for 5 years now with no cleaning, and they've withstood the stomps of some hefty people. It's what they do with the wood that matters, since wood could potentially make a good arcade pad, honestly. Obviously the entire thing can't be wood, but having some inside could definitely work.

From bemanistyle's wrap-up of Amusement Expo:
Also, upgrade kits for X2 will be available (Whether games lower than X will be applicable is not yet known) and James from Konami Europe is on the team developing the new pads for X2, which is apparently a good thing.

Luckily we were able to spot Naoki Okada VP of US Amusement for KDE and had a sit down with him to discuss the latest on Bemani in the US. Okada turns out to be an extremely friendly and easy to talk to person. We found out that X2 will indeed have a modified platform with much higher quality panels and sensors, although costs are still an issue, wood will still be used in some parts of the pad. We spoke about location tests; He informed us that Betson is very pressing about soft aka secret location tests, which are aimed only for the general population. We explained that our fan base knows about these types of location tests and agreed that we should respect the efforts of this test to not spread information once these tests are spotted. We agreed that both hard/publicly known tests and soft tests should coexist to not alienate the fan base. Sadly, he informed us that UBeat will be an unlikely title for the US with a majority of the problem being that the cost of the cabinet is too high for the US market and that converting this cabinet into something cheaper will still result in too high of costs. Many people do not realize that each of the 16 buttons on the cabinet are individual LCD’s which alone makes for a very pricey unit. Last, we discussed eAmusement availability. Konami will still very much like to roll eAmuse out to arcades. Brunswick has apparently fallen through and they are having difficulties finding a partner to help make this happen.

Hmm, so in the end e-Amuse becomes a human networking issue. I wish I knew of a company I could refer to them.

BEMANIWiki has been fixed with the June release date, so it looks like there's no more need to worry.

Note this paragraph from the report, though:
There’s definitely a storm brewing here.. Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero Arcade were both absent from the show floor. It seems that the ASCAP group, which handles licenses rights for artists with public performance, has put their foot down and was not allowing the game to be shown. It is also rumored that machines certain locations have disabled/unplugged their machines due to this issue. This is a very scary time for arcade music games. If the ASCAP gets its way it will definitely be looking at other titles to demand money from. We are waiting for a more through report from another group on this issue, which will cover more legal aspects and details.
Basically, we could never see another DDR game again regardless of what Konami or Betson does.
And of course, the first comment on BMS says this is 100% Betson's fault.

The ASCAP stuff is very scary, but I doubt they'll kill DDR. They wouldn't receive any money for that either. I'm guessing their goal is to bleed KONAMI for money to keep DDR around, but it's not in their interest to push them away entirely. Then again, they could all just be asshats.

Something tells me ASCAP wouldn't even care about DDR if it wasn't connected to GHAC by the distributor.

How is that possible, it isn't like Konami takes these songs without permission to use in their games, what's the whole point of licensing music then
.

It's to do with public performance royalties. Usually, when a song is used in a videogame, the artist and composer or record label are paid a one-off fee (which is what DDR does).
DDR and GH fall into a weird catagory, because they function like a Jukebox, where the player selects the song that they want to hear. In order to use a Jukebox in any venue, the owner needs a Performing Rights License, which most DDR operators don't have.

Considering this whole arcade music thing's been going on for about 11 years now, you'd have thought they'd have said something sooner.

Simply preposterous. It's like proclaiming that we have to pay a dime or so for every huff of air we breathe.
They've been at it for so long but a certain "home to arcade" video game is probably the one who shook a sack of coins.
