We have another second place tie! Ruffage was almost a quarterfinalist in the first tourney but here it only makes the honorary round of 32, and not even alone. I'd say the standard of bad charts rose (fell?) a lot, but all the other charts are from 2008 so

Pluto becomes our second no-vote contender. Guess it relinquished its spot.

We close out the first half of the group stage with the scenic tour of BPM Hell.

I will be giving my 5 votes to ACE FOR ACES . The quantization in that is so awful. I get it, they wanted to make it harder to PFC as an ENCORE EXTRA STAGE, but deliberately making notes wrongly quantized by a 16th note later is just not the way to do it. The EDP is especially worse.

Why is Hella Deep here? Why have a bunch of these been here? Did people opt in unremarkable charts just to skew votes?

As the host I'm extra tuned in to that so I'm gonna go on a mini-rant.

I guess people either got flustered and picked the first charts they thought of to get in before closing, they picked charts that are only "bad" cause people expected something else (I'm Flying Away, the Miku one), or they checked the last tournament for ideas, which was half stuff like this (Flight of the Phoenix was a quarterfinalist).

Also when people couldn't think of anything they looked at old console charts, but unless the timing's off those are easy enough to cheese/doublestep no matter how bad they are. Even I can do it and I'm way worse than some of you. Meanwhile with harder songs, most people can't cheese them so you have to take their badness. That's more of a personal take but Ruffage is the king of bad console charts and it had to tie to get to the round of 32. It's not looking good for the rest.

We've had really competitive groups (if you told me Trigger wouldn't get to the round of 32 I'd have said you were crazy) but there's more of these coming.

DEGRS is straight trash. It’s a bummer because the rhythms are mostly right if you listen to the assist tick but the placement of fucking everything and the beyond arbitrary tempo changes ruin everything.
