And if anyone was interested in seeing what it looks like to try and boot DDR without an eAmuse connection:

Blurry, yeah. Basically it goes to check the network and when it can't it throws up an error message and hangs there forever. (story time) The arcade lost it's internet connection and every single game that was online started complaining. They tried rebooting one DDR machine to see what would happen and got that. The ones they left on still worked, just with a box on the title screen indicating no eAmuse or Paseli service. Dunno how long they could theoretically operate like that.

It does say "Please push a SERVICE button." The offline X3s here also does that if you try to boot it offline while enabling eAmuse. Once you hit SERVICE button though, you'll be thrown to the title menu. It'll say "OFFLINE" on the bottom (either that or "STANDBY MODE", I forgot). You can still play but you'll be stuck with the very first default songlist.
IDK what will DDR2013 do with this though.
Anyway apparently Asian version got a patch today, 2013040400.

Dunno if it's been pointed out, but I noticed today that arrows that are Goods don't get struck like Greats and up. They fade and continue pass the receptors like a missed arrow despite being counted towards the combo. It really seems like the decision to make Goods count toward your combo was made at the last minute.

Yeah, the good combo sounds kinda last minute.
So apparently that's what happens without internet connection. Damn, where's the fun in that?

This, and DarkFeline, it was answered a few pages back. I believe it doesn't cuz battery only goes away when you break combo.

That screen also came up when the machines were first turned on. Back then, pressing the service button from that error screen went into the service menu and selecting Game Mode didn't go to the title screen, it rebooted the machine and ran the checklist again.
...I didn't stick around to see the attendants fiddle with it, they stuck Out of Order stickers on ALL the Bemani games and went about their business.

Try selecting Network Option, eamuse off, & then the machine should say "Reboot", then switch off/on the machine again & see what will happen....I didn't stick around to see the attendants fiddle with it, they stuck Out of Order stickers on ALL the Bemani games and went about their business.
*curious for DDR2013*

you can actually hear the step that was missed because they stepped at different times. I guess even Konami's machine has poor sensitivity eh

I've been quietly comparing my performance across two white cabinets in two locations. One is in a secluded place that doesn't get a lot of players (and the machine was put in on a later date) and the other(s) are in a very high traffic location and have been there since day one. After only a few weeks of the game being out I can tell now that the secluded machine is harder to play on. Random Goods that should have been better, randomly dropped Freeze Arrows, etc. When I play on the machines that get used every single day, I have none of those issues anymore and I tend to score higher as well, suggesting what I had originally thought - They just needed a break-in period. So as times goes on the stages on the white cabinets will continue to loosen up.
*shrug* Now that some time has passed (and a few software updates installed), the only difference between the machines is a matter of personal preference.

I am not sure if this entirely on-line thing is good. What if the server/data connection to Konami is shut down at some point? Would the machine just not work? Or could it work fully updated and simply offline without E-amuse?

I think it's like tricoro, where the machine simply refuses to start a round when disconnected. Nobody tried it/reported about that though.
Besides when it's offline it's pretty much neutered. You can't get stuff online machine gets. eAmuse is pretty much vital for this.
...and that the eAmuse participation thingy wouldn't work on offline cabs lol (essentially cutting Konami's profits)
So yeah practically this wouldn't work on the West.

The idea of your arcade machines being held ransom by e-AMUSE server stability is quite bad... not that it goes down often but still...

When it does go down, its hilarious to watch the fallout.
The arcade I frequent had a connection issue on Thursday and caused quite a lot of grief among players.
In the end, the staff had to suspend all of the Bemani games for a few hours because nobody could use the eAmuse system. Needless to say, the staff were not happy.

They should probably have a more graceful fallback into an offline mode, though I also wonder how many players would actually use offline machines if they can't track their progress and sign into their eAmuse accounts; might be a moot point anyway.

They could just have a "no-save" option. Course that means no access to unlocked material either but it's better than nothing I guess.
I think comes back around to the "always online" DRM that much of the west hates [See: Sim-City and Diablo 3]. I'm guessing Asian countries don't mind this intrusion as much.

Which is exactly what happens if it's offline. I was playing and mid-game suddenly it went offline and my data isn't saved. $2.50 for nothing.
And you can also opt not to scan your eAMUSE card in the start of the credit.

This is not consumer software though.

It's Singapore dollar. That works out to roughly 2.02 USD. So you guys who aren't playing it better not complain cuz we have to deal with this shit arcade operator dish out on us.

On the upside, we don't have to deal with e-AMUSE.
So it's like a small victory ;__;
