I always wondered why Saint Goes Marching Remix was called Saint Goes Marching Remix because I couldn't find the original anywhere. However, I managed to figure out that it was originally from Happy Jack Productions, where I discovered that the version in DDR was "Helix Remix" and the original Saint Goes Marching was released in April 1996.

konami seem to do that quite alot with their licenced music, Waka Laka, Flash Dance (What A Feeling) D:
I wonder what others there are.
Not really KONAMI's fault, but EMI's/Dancemania. They didn't like to credit remix names in the 90s.

Some of it is Toshiba's fault, Konami simply lifted the titles of the songs straight from the back cover of the album they were on. This is why the artists are preceded by a forward slash "/" on all the mixes that use the songwheel, that forward slash separated the title and artist on Dancemania albums.

But someone of it was Konami. Completely leaving the subtitle off of some songs and changing it for others.

BOOM BOOM DOLLAR --> is actually --> BOOM BOOM DOLLAR (Red Monster Mix)

CAN'T STOP FALLIN' IN LOVE (SPEED MIX) --> is actually --> CAN'T STOP FALLIN' IN LOVE (VENTURA HYPER MIX)

Actually, all artists have that, not just the ones licensed from Toshiba.

why on previous arcade titles that didn't use songwheel there's no "/"s, and why "/"s are used on every song instead of just Dancemania songs, and why SuperNOVA and SuperNOVA2, despite having songwheels, lack those "/"s?

Early Dancemania was terrible about identifying remixes; the second discs of Dancemania DELUX 1 and 2 are almost entirely remixes but none of them are actually identified as such.

Yeah, I know. I'm not sure why you thought I was only referring to licenses regarding that.

5thMIX was the first game with a text-based song selection wheel, before that it was just banners. When they stopped using the slash it not only corresponds with the last games to use/be modeled after the 573 code (EXTREME on the arcade, PARTY COLLECTION on the consoles), it also lines up with the end of the Konami x Dancemania licensing deal.

It just seems obvious to me, especially when a too-long title made Konami decide to reorganize the text of the the title/subtitle/artist in a way that moved the slash to another location. Revealing that the whole thing started as a single line of text... formatted exactly like the Dancemania albums:

DDR X3's SERIES TITLE sort sorts everything (except the X3 folder) in the order of [licenses] [KOs], and within they order them as [alphabets] [others] and they have [japanese characters according to romanization] [numbers and stuff].

Anyway according to this, 木製~組曲『惑星』より is categorized as a license.

Yup, it's a license.

The Planets Suite isn't old enough to be in the public domain, so it's a Konami produced cover of a copyrighted song - the same deal as Come Clean, Two Months Off, Connect etc.

So that means one day it will vanish? (Either that or Konami keeps extending the license...)

It outlasted Angelus, so I imagine they aren't paying much for it?

They might have made a one-off payment to Holst's family in order to make the recording, and then get unlimited use out of it. It doesn't have any lyrics or vocals, so I guess it's less royalties to worry about than a vocal song (or maybe even a Konami Original song)?

I think some of the early Konami Originals tied to vocalists like Thomas Howard or Aaron G are more likely to vanish in the next game. Most of the pre-MAX Konami Originals still in the game have been whittled down to either instrumentals, songs with vocals from Sample Libraries, or artists like Paula Terry and Sana, who Konami are going to keep paying until the end of time.

I don't think it costs a whole lot to license the right to create a cover of a Holtz piece.

If DanceDanceRevolution is what it seems to be, we'll end up getting all the KOs.

---

5thMIX and 6thMIX are the only two games in the main arcade series that do not have the original PARANOiA. 6thMIX doesn't have any version of PARANOiA at all. In fact, I think that 6thMIX is the ONLY non-themed DDR arcade ever to be released without some variant of PARANOiA.

This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel, but...

Twilight Zone was an 8 footer on the test location version of Max 2

You say that it's the first song in the DDR SN2 sort? Hmmm... might I ask, does this also work in La Bamba's case? It's the first song in the DDR Extreme sort. (All I know is that it's a Bemani Crossover)

Yeah, it's weird that Witch Doctor is still an 8-footer...

There are 2 versions of La Bamba right now.

The Tomosuke version (from Mambo A Go Go) is the first song on the DDR Extreme songwheel (listed as a license).

The LH Music Creation Version (from SuperNOVA) is in the middle of the SuperNOVA folder, listed as a Konami Original.
