I'm no psychiatrist and I don't practice armchair psychiatry.

Neither do I have a high horse nor do I snoop around social media.

If we judged people based of their Twitter I think this guy would've declared me completely insane by now and demanded I be IP banned for the safety of everybody else, because I too post both stuff related to my hobbies and interests, and things about politics or my personal life. Call the authorities, good lord.

Also, even if someone's bipolar, why would that warrant someone's forum ban? That's dumb. Mental illness is stigmatized enough. We don't need to exclude people from virtual societies because of it.

Believe it or not, people with mental illnesses can contribute a whole lot to this world! And I guarantee many of the most prolific people out there suffer from mental illness.

Ban someone for breaking the rules, not for... suffering from mental illness.

I want to preface this by saying straight up: if I came off as a dick, I didn't mean to. I'm not saying MrDanceCrazer needs to be banned for their mental health, that's just heartless. It's just disheartening to see them pop in (as infrequently as I do, let's be honest, guilty as charged) and just scream hopelessly in our radius. We're not the mental health professionals, though, and if they want someone to talk to regarding their problems, this forum really isn't the place to do so. Look, it was a knee jerk reaction, I'll admit it. Sorry.

The thread is called Let It Out for a reason. Perhaps some people cool off by writing out their frustrations, however nonsensical, somewhere where the general public can read, as opposed to keep everything bottled inside and being unable to live their lives. And perhaps someone who knows the person well might reach out. Remember, I don't think any of us who have been active on this site for any more than two years can say all our posts have been cohesive and meaningful. I'd be worried more if people made posts like that on a daily basis and in the wrong threads as opposed to whatever MrDanceCrazer has been doing.

Since someone brought up mental health, here's my two cents:
1. 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness in any given year, according to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (Canada). Imagine having to hide from a niche forum because you are going through things. Not being able to write your mind out is not only an unreasonable thing to ask of in any forum, but also dangerous to one's well-being.
2. Mental health professionals aren't the first people that come to mind to turn to for comfort when someone's distress is out of control. I have only spoken to one psychiatrist ever when my family suspected me of having unmanageable levels of stress. Normally, you'd turn to your leisures, and then to people you know who might understand, and if that does not resolve things, you'd turn literally anywhere else to cool off steam before you are level-headed enough to talk to a professional.

I completely agree with not turning to professionals first. I have some emotional/mental issues and while I just got a therapist, I am not comfortable confiding all my feelings and thoughts in them, even though I know they are there to help. I tend to keep things bottled up in me, but I am working on expressing them in a safe place, and maybe eventually I will feel confident enough to tell my therapist all these things. But they are definitely not the first person I'd turn to with these things. Especially the very dark thoughts I have from time to time.

The "Let It Out" thread is, I think, a great place to express your feelings either positive or negative. And a couple of years ago, I would have probably have written mostly negative things there. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that. And it's certainly no reason to boot someone off a forum or any community.

She's on this site today because the other staff on this site are trusting me to deal with her as needed. I actually talk to her personally when she acts up or is dealing with issues that lead to her uncontrollable bouts of annoyance, and she's been much better overall.

Hence, she gets warnings from time to time. She's been learning what she should/should not post on a public forum. What's been consistent, though, is that she was always willing to work on her issues and ask herself why she does what she does, as I've always encouraged her to.

To be completely honest, I probably should take a break from posting anywhere right now online, as I really need to sort some things out with myself in real life. I,m sorry for not realizing that sooner and I will refrain from any more posts here until I feel actually "ready".
