that's the reason why i mentioned thy are more into getting the public interest rather than the player's (DDR enthusiasts) point-of-view for the game

News Flash: First and foremost, every corporation's goal is to MAKE MONEY. If that means attracting a casual crowd consisting of millions of people rather than a hardcore market that consists of only tens of thousands (if that), then that is what they are going to do.

no argument with this, i was actually supporting your statement bro hehehe

Well, I'm dropping the idea of actually doing that for now, even though I'll still be working on the simfiles as simfiles, and still on the idea of me joining Konami, but I'm still hoping they step it up. Oh yeah, and if I were to price the game, I'd go 54.99 for PS2, and 59.99 for every other system. Remember, there's also other modes such as edit, training, advanced, and the story mode!... Oh, maybe I could make a new mode... MUWAHAHAHA!!... Probably not...

Sure, you need to see something with which you're already familiar to get interested, but if you really enjoy the game, you'll start with the familiar songs, branch out to others, and ultimately like the ones you came across later than the one that initially attracted you.

Quote: piepiepie75

Uh...I guess those are fine, but to be honest, I know very few songs on that list. Granted, I don't listen to mainstream music, but I recognize....maybe 7 to 8 licenses on the front page without needing to listen to them. On your list, I recognize...three songs, and two of the songs I recognize aren't very new. But I'm a bad test subject for this stuff anyways.

The idea of mainstream vs. non-mainstream is irrelevant when making simfiles. Sometimes, it's actually better to step more obscure songs because the ones that get more attention already have at least five simfiles. You don't grab a song and claim it as yours, but it's easier to build an identity for yourself as a simfile stepper if you come up with plenty of unique selections instead of just doing smoooch, Turii, Go Beyond!!, Mendes, etc.

Hell, it's not all that important on a DDR game, either. True, mainstream licenses do the job Konami wants, but lesser-known licenses, like Dancemania, A Different Drum, or artists like Alien Six and Drew Campbell, add some spice to the list and certainly aren't filler. Refer back to my first paragraph.

"Charlie isn't real"
you see...

Konami likes to Make it Make Money, with the 30 licenses, i could probably attract a lot more people than i would say...10 to 12 "mainstream" licenses that most people have either listend to recently or was a Top 20 Hits back in the 80s or something...

I like the direction this game is going, and i hope that all goes well for this game Smile

There are only a couple of things that are bothering me...

1. Why the 59.99 for the PS2 bundle and the 69.99 for the PS3/360/Wii Bundle? They describe the song list to be "Over 60 songs" but why such a high price? DDR X was 39.99 when it first came out (i think, either that or that was the price for the bundle). This sort of indicates that Konami is SO confident about their licenses, that people would fork over the 60 and 70 bucks for the game bundle....although it would sound reasonable for the PS3/360 version because you have the option of getting 150+ DLC...

2. The Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions did not get a showing at E3, this is bothering me because we only have 5 months until the games release....i mean, i don't know how Konami works, but from the screens that i have seen, the ONLY thing i am liking about the next gen game is the background, that's it. I just hope that they give a demo at Comic con or something because this has gotten me worried a bit =/.

I may be jumping the gun here, but i don't know, 5 months is a long wait but apparently it's just flying by in my book Neutral

I...don't see what is so unusual about those prices, that's been the prices for a while. The question will be whether they offer game-only options though.

They mentioned that the PS3/360 versions were not ready to be shown at E3, so I don't think there's much to worry about yet. The screens are still a work in progress. Once they actually show a demo version of it, we'll have a good idea of what they look like.

Same here, although I find 70USD for a Wii bundle a bit steep, unless that bundle has two pads.

I was afraid of this, so that probably means that for the game alone for PS2 is $39.99. Crap... (in terms of someone not having money)

Now that I think about, I wonder if the pads will be all "new and improved" (somewhat). Any thoughts?
Music is always running in my mind... Everyday, songs old and new come to mind.
...
I wonder how a DJ Hero-esque mix of an AFRONOVA medley and Fascination MAXX would sound...

But isn't $40 about £25? I've paid about that for most of my recent Dancing Stage games like Max and SuperNOVA, I think Fusion might have cost me around that price too. How is it unreasonable?

Yeah, all PS2 games other than MM and Fever (which were oddly £40). Even SN2 was, despite many places lowering the price to £20.

Honestly, I'm not sure if I'm cool with the master tracks of songs. While that may work for SOME songs, I definitely prefer the cover versions of some licenses because they're more danceable. Great example: Long Train Runnin'. If that song were a master track, it would be so out of place in DDR, but Bus*Stop/X-Treme made the song more up beat and danceable. I think Helen does a great job at her covers of Britney Spears songs and I much prefer her versions to the master trackers as far as appearing in DDR. This is what was so great like Dancemania, they took songs like Ordinary World, It's Raining Men, and Somewhere Over the Rainbow and made them more danceable.

PS2 pads will probably be the same as previous Konami pads. X360 pads might be in the new design. As for price, I think the PS2 version might be at the 30USD price point for the stand-alone, Wii 50USD, X360 & PS3 60USD, and for the bundles you can add 20USD, but don't quote me on it.

Oddly enough, the Dancemania remix of It's Raining Men by Geri Halliwell actually made it to No.1 over here, and Ordinary World got to the Top 10, so they'd actually count as master tracks to some extent.

I thought a master track was the original recording of a song, i.e.: not a cover, remix or what have you.

I agree with this (i.e. Boogie Wonderland vs WONDERLAND (UKS Mix)), but for the most part these current license choices seem mostly fitting and many of them don't have better dance covers I'm aware of, so for now we're fine. Tongue

Though the danger with Dancemania covers was also that sometimes you'd get a very, very, very bad cover. Though, these days, that's not much of a danger unless they contract out PEGASUS again. Tongue

The thing is, licenses are usually there to draw in new fans. Konami knows there's a set of hardcore players that will buy DDR no matter what they put in there as long as they make somewhat of an effort. Realize that the step chart artists don't decide what songs go into DDR. I'm sure Dukamok has very little say so in what goes on in the DDR games he does charts for. In fact, he probably doesn't get to decide what difficulty a song has, because we've seen too many times when charts are severely misrated, as if the chart was meant to be the rating, but the stepper didn't do a good job at meeting its target.
