Wow. After being absent of my DDR activity... A new DDR game? :O (I havn't finished the entire DDRX "story mode"!)
A new DDR = A new failure
at this point you SHOULD NOT BE SURPRISED.
Why aren't you banned yet?

Gee, it's so bad to point out that Konami does things wrong, everybody who does should be banned! Only mindless Konami worship and hope list posting should be allowed!

Because, while I do trash Konami somewhat, that isn't a bannable offense.

I agree, people should be banned for not liking Konami's approach to the game.

Any showing of hope for the future of the series should result in administrative action.

Hah, yeah. Get hired by a corporation and then start lecturing your bosses about how you have so much better taste than them and see how long you keep your job.

I don't know, I rather like the choices Konami have made for this new game. Yes it's not perfect and Konami continue to waste DVD, and soon to be Blu-ray, space with around an 85 song limit, at least the licence choices this time are wide and highly relevant. As a European I can say over 75% of these licences would have fit perfectly into any recent Dancing Stage game (R.I.P old friend) so I'm pretty happy.
What I am UNHAPPY with is that certain versions of this new game might be crippled simply so that Konami can save some money, after all even though they are licensing a lot of licences this time they are going to be the same across four different platforms which must surely save Konami some money, right? Potentially reducing the total amount of songs on platforms such as the Wii seems somewhat redundant as the licence covers which the platform had before are no longer exclusive so crippling it unnecessarily seems somewhat pointless.

Well, I wouldn't exactly do that. But, I probably have a general better pick of music then they do. I'm STILL working on the DDR Moonlight edition thing (amazingly), and the songlist's gotten pretty good. I'll post a list of it later to see what people think, but I'm almost certain that it's better than what we've seen lately... Almost.

if your sims at bemanistyle are any indication, your game would sell to the hardcore bemaniacs in america and maybe 10 copies aside from that. konami makes song lists with licenses that sell millions of copies each, so good luck convincing them your method is better.

But unlike you, Konami isn't pirating songs. They have to pay for the licenses AND pay Bemani artists to make songs for DDR as well as pay for graphics, marketing, etc. etc. That means they need to both control costs and make sales so that they can pay all their costs and make a profit. There was a time when DDR was new and fresh and Konami could just stick a bunch of unknown licenses and Bemani songs and make bundles, but music games have changed and consumers demand popular songs that they know, which is what Konami is going for in this game. I would be really surprised if this game did not outsell HP2/X/Uni 3 by a considerable margin, and HP2/X/Uni 3 have already sold more than a million copies combined.
People have to remember that making a DDR game is absolutely nothing like making a Stepmania song pack.

what will you get from a licensed song selling millions and platinum awards if the steps are very lousy and unlikely to enjoy with? I like Closer, a lot! by Ne-yo but I saw the video for its stepchart and I was like huh? (drop-jaw)
but it is too early to judge the game..i really hope they would make this revolution-to-the-next-generation DDR game as fun as the previous generations. Konami, I guess, is starting to get the general public's interest to buy the game since almost everyone (not all) knows these artists and their top-charting hits

When was the last time you heard anyone buy Rock Band because they heard some song's Expert drum chart was fun? Probably never. Same with DDR; the majority of the people buying this aren't going to look at the box, see Closer by Ne-Yo, then whip out their iPhone and ask an internet forum if the steps are fun before buying. They're going to buy it if they like the songs, they won't if they don't. Simple!Too many people think they know how to make a DDR game based on the steps alone. I whine about steps all the time, but I know that the step charts aren't what sell most of these games. The steps are generally competently done and that's fine for most people, it's just the BEMANI bourgeoisie that throws fits over weak steps.
This game looks extremely promising due to its musical direction and there's always Edit Mode for the steps. It's easy to fix bad steps (if you're not lazy, i.e. aren't me), but it's impossible to fix a bad song.

Well, only a couple of those are on it. Plus a couple from here, plus a hell of a lot more, with crossovers. In total, there's currently 82 songs, 70 having full single stepcharts (I'm not really into making doubles, but I will make them later).

Well, yeah. That's kind of obvious. If I were somehow able to make a DDR game, I would obviously pay fully for the licensing, pay the bemani artists, pay for the graphics, etc. etc. I'd actually try to put the DDR advertisements on the TV, in Canada, the US, and Mexico because this would probably be a N.A. version, but maybe all around Europe too if I decided to make a Europe version, because I think there's enough JAP versions compared to the US versions, even though they were the ones who originally created DDR, and not as many Europe versions as anywhere else.

True, which is why I've so far put in Mad by Ne-Yo, Circus (and Me Against the Music, but the one by Britney and Madonna) by Britney Spears, One Week by the Barenaked Ladies, Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis, and Operator by Shiloh. Some less known, but still known songs, are 100% Pure Love by Crystal Waters, Don't Touch Me (So Throw the Water on Em') by Busta Rhymes, Let Me Know by NLT, Warrior's Dance by The Prodigy, Slow Me Down by Emmy Rossum, Untouched by The Veronikas, and for those jumpstylers, Infected by dj Coone.
Yeah yeah, I need licensing for those too, blah, blah...

That's all well and fine, but just "yeah, I'd pay all that blah, blah, blah" doesn't exactly cut it. You'd need to do some serious budgeting, adding up your fixed and variable costs and determine a selling price that would allow you to make a profit. I personally haven't the faintest idea of how much licensing, advertising and the like cost, but it's not cheap and Konami does not give Bemani an infinite amount of money to do all these things, so if you're liberal with your spending, you'd have to tack on a high selling price.

Uh...I guess those are fine, but to be honest, I know very few songs on that list. Granted, I don't listen to mainstream music, but I recognize....maybe 7 to 8 licenses on the front page without needing to listen to them. On your list, I recognize...three songs, and two of the songs I recognize aren't very new. But I'm a bad test subject for this stuff anyways.

News Flash: First and foremost, every corporation's goal is to MAKE MONEY. If that means attracting a casual crowd consisting of millions of people rather than a hardcore market that consists of only tens of thousands (if that), then that is what they are going to do.
