Would it be possible to add few new rules from next round?
1 - minimal and maximal length of song - I would suggest to go from 1:30 to 2:10 max.
2 - sound quality - minimum 192 kbps
3 - no dubstep - seriously this genre isn't best for dance game
I don't think the dubstep rule is necessary because it is a custom song contest. It would not be fair.1 - minimal and maximal length of song - I would suggest to go from 1:30 to 2:10 max.

I don't think Lisek was serious about the dubstep rule, hence the teeny tiny text.
He's always got the option of using a veto if he wants.

Rules should be objective.Post #124 · Posted at 2015-11-11 03:52:01am 9.6 years ago
Thanks for the sticky, Ryan!
(Also jeez, Cuzco, you seem to want this sticky more than I do, lol. I thank you too!)
2. It's a good suggestion, but it's quite often that the song you want just isn't available in 192kbps or higher. We can only offer that as a suggestion, not a rule.
I think on SS13, you can ask the hosts for validation if you made the same cut in a better quality. So... if you did it, let me know.
It's good to have Scarz for discussion. He has more experience in this forum than I do, so he can offer some insights that I've never noticed before.

@vincentw, ZIP files aren't working properly... when I download, they're empty.
Anyone else had the same issue? I tried to download the simfiles in incognito and it works, though.Post #125 · Posted at 2015-11-11 03:55:08am 9.6 years ago

Yeah. :/ Something's wrong with ZIV's autozip feature.
They do work with WinRAR and 7Zip, though, but it's a tiny bit annoying...

You can convert a low bitrate audio file into a higher bitrate file, but the actual sound quality will not go up with the bitrate, so a bitrate restriction becomes pretty much pointless.
I still find it annoying that some low-quality songs for some simfiles are labeled "high-quality," though, but I'm going on a tangent here.

Dubstep is flat for the most part, however, there ARE some actually decent ones.
DANCE ALL NIGHT by Sota Fujimori is an example. It somehow combines dubstep with harmony and there's never a flat moment in the song.
Albeit it's from Sota Fujimori. His stuff is automatically awesome.

I suspect that the reason the files are not working in normal ZIP is that, the contents are packed inside a song folder ([ROUND A] - title) inside a category folder (Z-I-v Simfile Shuffle 2015) inside a folder called "..\simfiles". The backslash is a problem because you can't use them in filenames. I've sent Al a PM, and hopefully it'll be resolved soon.
Until then, please use WinRAR, 7-Zip, or similar utilities. Sorry for the inconvenience.

What I'd usually do is just right click and then save as and put them in a folder. I know it may feel like it's time consuming but it's what i did ever since the problem occurred, especially when updating a specific song.

Just wanted to make sure of something: It we get an off sync sm file, we are allowed to re-sync it right? Because I like the song I received, but its off sync.
EDIT: Thanks for the quick response, vincentw. I will make sure the file is synced properly.

Yes, you're allowed to do that. You're not limited by the offset or the BPMs. Just make sure it stays synced throughout the song.

Next time I will remember to also include [irony] tag together with small font. Obviously that was a joke but not everyone got it
Anyways, as the song is super terrible and I don't want to waste my veto in first round I'm dropping from first round. Gonna send in skeleton for second and hope that I will get something that's actually simable.

ZIP system is still down, at least for me. Anyone else's fixed?
Wait, this was really all caused by a typo backslash? Strange...

[ROUND A]

Silly Ho - TLC
BPM: 145.594+
Length: 1:06
Genre: R&B
Origin: TLC - Silly Ho (Single)
S:
2 (3) /
4 (6) /
5 (7) /
8 (11) /
9 (14)
Definitely not my favorite material when it comes to charting music, but it actually came out pretty decently. 90's R&B, cut super short, with a few small BPM gimmicks actually makes for some interesting files.
Challenge is more of an experimental chart, with mines marking the speed-ups, rolls marking the "wha-wha-wha whoa"s, and freezes marking the bass hits. Near the end it gets really hectic as everything layers together, all with crossovers to keep you on your toes.
I originally thought chewi submitted this file based on length of the cut and the music style, but the skeleton was submitted with a solid BPM of 146 which was totally wrong, and I know chewi is better than that ^.^

Everyone, Al said that the ZIP issue should now be resolved. If you're using autozip, please delete your ZIP and re-generate it.
Oh, and Lisek wants a veto… you get Black Light Machine. Good luck with your new file!
(I do feel bad for Retro City, being rejected two years in a row…)
