It's convention season!

Like usual, the rhythm game room at Anime North 2018 will be run by the BBC in the Sheraton. A new addition this year is a Pop'n Music arcade machine!

Unfortunately, yes. The one DDR A in Toronto is the only online cabinet in Canada from Bemani.

Exciting! I've never been to AN or any anime convention or arcade and I have just one question.

Who decides who plays what and for how long? Like, I've never played any of those games ever in my life, but I do want to try to play a few at AN but from the video it just looks like a bunch of people watching one person do really really good. I also plan on bringing my brother and we're both <18 y/o so... how would that work out?

For most games its first come first serve, and they get to play 2-3 songs each if there are others in line. All the volunteers/staff in the room play rhythm games and will gladly help new players with playing the games and navigating the menus.

I started playing rhythm games/going to anime north when I was like 15, so you'll be fine. The rhythm game community is really welcoming to new players because we're a super small community here so we don't gate keep.

Not much to worry about in that department. There's enough english / visual indicators to navigate around easily. Also welcome to the forums!

One of these years I'll check out Anime North. The rhythm game setup is definitely tempting me.

Vancouver area here. The In The Groove 2 listing for CHQ at Metrotown mentions that the cabinet is maintained by an active community, and I've noticed it having updates once in a while. Where are y'all at? Is there a local community group online I can join somewhere? I'm still a learner, but if there is a community I'd be interested in joining and meeting some of you.
