I used to believe in Christianity until a few years ago when I realized that I'm not knowledgeable enough to come to a conclusion about what's out there. Before this, I was serious about Christianity. Nowadays, I'm not really sure what to believe. To be honest, I don't really care about God that much. What really concerns me is what's going to happen to me after I die, no joke. Has anyone ever read the book "Life after Death" by Deepak Chopra? I would love to read or hear someone's take on that book.

"MAGGLE" |
I am a Catholic. I celebrate Christmas and at least try to honor the Holy Week aka fasting and abstinence from meat.
-Me being a part of Christianity, I have accepted that some people can be so dedicated to God. One of my Religion (a misnomer, or just Christianism, since that was what we all talked about) teachers said that "a person does not simply dedicate most of their Sunday to God, but the whole day of Sunday" or something along those lines. I accept people who are religious because good for them.
-Like I said above, I am a part of Christianity. There have been situations where I find myself questioning why things keep happening to me, but I don't question His wishes since I don't think I have the right to do it. It's not a straight-forward reply by w/e.
What I don't understand are Religions which are forks of Christianity, particularly Iglesia ni Cristo and El Shaddai.
Iglesia ni Cristo is this | | close to being considered a cult. They unanimously vote for election candidates as chosen by their leader/s*, they MUST go to church or members of the community they're in will knock on the doors and ask why they didn't attend, they attend church in formal wear (slacks and skirts with black shoes for the men and whatnot for the ladies), and they have a cable channel where they boast about "members who have finally seen the light and will be saved from oblivion". Mot to mention that when one of the founders passed away, many male members shed so many manly tears. I've already talked about how they sometimes go door to door and asks someone to read a bible passage and hand an INC leaflet.
El Shaddai on the other hand. I don't know much about them, but they have a different interpretation of the bible. Like women not being allowed to cut their hair. They also do not eat canned or processed goods which were treated with Halal (a muslim belief when it comes to slaughtering animals) and don't appear at any social events like Fiestas.
*Which is why every presidential candidate tries to appease withe them by promising projects that conform to their religion or to Catholicism itself.

Though I will have to say somethings about Christianity turns me out
-The Preachers. I know spreading Christianity is good and all but some people take Religion WAY too seriously. Its just a way of living. Just accept it in your life and go on with your business. You don't have to Preach "Oh he such the greatest person in the world!" Yeah we get that, now let us be with our lives without shoving it down our throats.
-How some people "claim" that religion can change you. I honestly found it hard to put this in but just to say God doesn't choose how your life is. YOU CHOOSE. Its your life and its your cause. Its up to you to decide if you want to become a christian or not, all of it is up to personal preference.

Bumpin once again
In recent weeks I've started identifying as a Deist rather than a Christian at all. It's been difficult, but the arguments for the truthhood of Christianity aren't really doing it for me anymore. However I still think there is evidence for God, both in my own experience and in science (though yes, it does still take some faith, just not blind uninformed faith). For me, exploring Deism has been a weight off my shoulders, since one if free to believe in God without believing its the same God that ordered deaths of many in the Bible for silly reasons, or sends people to Hell. Realistically I've probably been a Deist for years, but have always been afraid to split from the Christian label, what with apostasy being a grave mistake being drilled into my head by other Christians and all.
I still think about God and spirituality and stuff a lot, which is the reason for going Deist instead of Atheist/Agnostic. Now I think there is a God that hasn't been very directly involved with the universe at all since the Big Bang, but that doesn't necessarily mean he/she/it is completely indifferent to the universe, or even humanity. Even with evolution of species in place, species evolved according to the laws of the universe, which still in my mind makes them and us "designed", though not in the way creationists use the word. I think this God is not the God of any particular religion and doesn't judge on the basis of what you believe, if judge at all.
Anyhow, was wondering if there are other people at ZIV who consider themselves Deist.

Personally, it bothers me when religion/faith sometimes becomes an excuse for flawed logic and absence of critical thinking.
That being said, it also bothers me when people care too much about what you believe. I hate some seeing Atheists telling you what to believe because not believing in God is "so much more scientific and reasonable".
Also, I'm not sure about what I "believe".
I'm not too much into the idea of an intelligent entity that would be the cause for the universe and stuff.
(sorry if that sounds dumb, it's a tough subject to approach and writing in english doesn't help)
Hum, it's hard to develop in English right now for me, I'd like to write some stuff but I need to put my ideas down and organize them, so later maybe.
