Saying there are doublesteps and that it brings the score down is fine, telling someone it means they don't have charting knowledge when they've been around the block for a decade isn't...
yeah exactly this, that was kind of the problem here

Fair enough for my comments, but Chewi responded with a piece of text that came across as banter (for me at least) and then was greeted by "playing your file is a waste of judges time" or whatever, which isn't a very nice thing to say.
At least from my end, here's the story. I left what I thought was a fair critique, and was met with something between utter disinterest and hostility. So, from that and following comments, it seemed to me that he didn't care how fun the chart is for others to play. I think that's okay if you're making a personal chart, but not for a contest entry. After all, charting competitions are meant to encourage writing better charts, aren't they? So trying to please nobody else but himself with a contest entry seemed like it would waste the time of judges, who have to play and review a chart that wasn't made with them in mind. Why bother entering it to a contest if you're not out to please anyone? Do you see what I mean?

As for Oni, I think he saw the same thing I did, told Haley to back down, and then Haley called him Pocket Mod in another comment section :/
From what I remember, Oni did nothing to try to quell the fire from a neutral standpoint like moderators should, but simply fed fuel to the fire like a heckler, or as AnonyWolf eloquently put it, “sticking his wick into a situation that does not call for him”. He literally threatened to ban me if I didn't shut up, but did nothing of the sort to the other party. I think I have the constitutional right to call him Chewi's Pocket Mod.
I just want some better behavior from someone in power, especially after the recent events in the US that are like an out-of-control allegory to teach us that power corrupts.

Haley, I'm sorry for calling you a Cist.
Apology accepted.

...what? Who exactly are you to decide if a chart is created to "waste the time of judges", considering chewi has entered many contests and has had success with files including doublesteps? Everyone can submit what they want, and your opinion is definitely not how everyone else judges simfiles.
Especially "Why bother entering it to a contest if you're not out to please anyone?" reeks of entitlement. Even more disgusting is that people are actually defending you and your attitude.

Haley, that you’re sidestepping the “indicating a lack of charting knowledge” statement you made to start as if it weren’t hostile and doubling down on your “waste of judges’ time” and “if you’re not making stuff to please, why bother?” egotistic stances, that’s proof that you are very much in the wrong. chewi is demonstrably blameless here, Haley’s the aggressor, an unrepentant one at that.

Oh, I forgot to mention the absolute pettiness of Chewi continuing his little Spanish Inquisition after I reuploaded the chart specifically to put the comments section in the trash. He has overstepped boundaries time and again, and honestly it's unbelievable. He's acting like a king of the hill, and not even a hill worth dying on.
I hate drama, but I also hate people treating me like garbage.
IRT the “charting knowledge” comment you seem to be all up in arms about:
In 2020, pretty much everyone agrees that doublesteps are cheap difficulty spikes at best, and a detriment to good gameplay experience at worst, especially in low or middle difficulties. There are a lot of ways to add difficulty to a chart in more interesting ways. For all but the oldest-school or die-hardest DDR fans, I've only heard about doubsesteps in a bad light. Sure, doublesteps can be useful for some effects, but generally, especially when they're thrown in haphazardly, it plays more like an oversight than a feature.
In this current meta, doublesteps are deprecated, and dismissing criticism about them indicates that you're out of touch with the current meta, or just making charts for you, yourself, and you.

If you hate drama, I don't understand why you took it to all of this. I think the two of you should both apologize and move on, for you clearly and needlessly hurt each other over a contest entry, which I'm sure everyone participates for the fun of it.

Only if you don't count the repeated efforts to harass me on my simfile's comments section, and posting screenshots that, more often than not, have no relation to the topic at hand than to insult me in some non-sequitur way. Like I said, I've reuploaded the chart to clear the comments section, and he just went at it with an old screenshot like a vengeful spirit.Post #1372 · Publicado en 2020-06-04 03:34:12pm Hace 5 años

Oh, I already apologized and she accepted, I'm just pointing out that, other than 1 person, everybody else seems to see the little game she's playing.

That wasn't for you, Aaron, no worries. This is between chewi and Haley, and I read through all the comments on the simfiles. Yeah, that definitely went farther than it should have.

This. Clearing the comments section doesn't exactly come off as an apology and a promise to make up, but instead pretending like nothing happened. I can see why chewi is still upset and acted like he did, as much as I don't agree that he should have done that.

See, me personally nowadays, there's something off-putting to penalizing an entire file just because of one or two double-steps, unless they're in a fast 16th stream. (I think 150 BPM 8ths would be my limit for this.) Yes, most of the time they're used because the charter doesn't know what they're doing with patterning, but there are legitimate ways to make them work. Just as there is legitimate ways to make streams, footswitches, spins, BPM changes, stops, mines/shock arrows, rolls, lifts, and so on... work.
Something else that contributes to my viewpoint on this is how homogeneous simfiles seemed to be in the past couple of contests I participated in. A lot of them were like... they're there, but I don't remember them an hour later. I think the strict "no doublesteps" stanza might be a contributor to this. I'd like to see more people come out of the woodwork and express their own stepping style instead of seemingly playing it safe or strictly catering to what people already like. Outright telling people they're wasting their time by uploading something that "isn't good" or demanding them to change things about your file they don't like... Unless there's a REALLY good reason (again, ridiculously fast doublesteps or impossible to read gimmicks or it's off-sync), this is pretty toxic and deters people from wanting to make simfiles any further (see: Tournament of Immortals 6, Battle Royale 2017). Also for those that didn't see it, my comment on Hot Summer applies here too:
Quote
Hi.
Some people chart specifically for themselves and not anyone else's benefit. chewi is one of those people.
It's good to give out public feedback! But if someone decides not to take it, then that's the way it is. It's up to us to respect that, it's better not to outright force someone to step how you want them to step.
This all being said, I think this argument needs to stop. For everyone's sake. I mean, it's just simfiles. There's other more important things in life to get riled up about, and it's not like simfiling is something you can actually make a career off of (not without eventually getting into legal trouble with Konami anyways...). Frankly, I don't think continuing to throw shade, spice, and complaints at one another over THIS is going to benefit anyone. My advice on this matter also applies to ai-shi-te-ru-yo's comment section and the Warnings and Bans thread.
Thank you for reading this.

It is pretty funny that someone just indrectly compared a mod debatably overstepping his line to a global protest against American police brutality, I have to admit. Like, bloody hell. There needs to be a new word for that level of tone-deaf.

Let the record show that you threw the first blow because you couldn't handle the slightest negative constructive criticism to your chart. In your own words: “News flash, it's a public forum not a circlejerk.“
There's nothing even insulting about what chewi said. It's embarrassing that you started all this because someone said that double-stepping wouldn't kill you and you're making it so much worse by comparing yourself to victims of police brutality.
