I don't have a problem with mixing some of the lighter pop music we get first in American games with high-energy tracks that debut in the arcade games. I feel they mix for a good combination. I'll take such gems as Shine and One Sides Love along side thumpers such as Sakura Sunrise and Pierce The Sky. I like it all.
Pretty much this, actually. I don't mind having downtempo, 80s-trance-esque songs like Rocket alongside Whip My Hair and Haunted Rhapsody. A variety of songs with--hopefully--good stepcharts is what makes DDR great. Just look at Shiny World VS Anti-Matter VS Sakura Sunrise. None of them are received badly, and they're all different types of music.Quote: aeubanks
I like Osaka Evolved. Unlike most other people who hate the drum rolls, they're just kind of there, not good, not bad. But I love the piano part.
The steps are the main problem I have with Osaka Evolved, they're so... not...good. The song itself isn't terrible by any means but dear god that stepchart.Post #1362 · Posted at 2011-09-13 01:35:03pm 14.4 years ago

Untill the end and On the Night of a Still Wind (barring stepcharts) were some of the best music in DDR 2010. I can say that I pick 2 songs out of a US release that are really good. I can pick maybe 2 songs I don't like out of a JP AC mix.
We just arent getting songs like White Rose, any of the RDA songs, Leaving....., Fire Fire, and CG project on any US mixes. We never get any interesting licences, like everything from SN2, or Hydrogen Blueback, or things of that nature. It may be a lonely opinion, but it feels like the game has gone stale as far as US mixes go.

I can feel you on the licenses. While I appreciate the fact that they need big name licenses to draw players in, I do feel like there are better choices. For instance, Naturally is a much more DDR-worthy song than A Year Without Rain and is probably more well-known to boot. And the fact that there's two Justin Bieber and two Bruno Mars songs packed into an already fairly small license list doesn't help matters. That being said, I do appreciate the Goldfrapp and Spice Girls inclusions! Two great songs there. And the Rihanna song is a pretty good choice too.
As for KOs, there's definitely a tendency towards more "casual" songs from home mixes, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. To be honest, I find songs like WH1TE RO5E to be really niche songs (I can't say I'm a huge fan of the song). But we know there's a ton of songs yet to be revealed, so there's plenty of opportunity there.

Hello!!
This years version of Wii DDR will have the traditional Wii DDR as its foundation, but we are also thinking of having a stronger connection with the arcade versions of DDR.Hopefully, it is going to be a DDR that our fans will come to love.DDR in the future will have gameplay that can be enjoyed solely through DDR only and in our own style so that it can be a game that can be loved by everybody.

Wait, I thought the games were looking/acting like the arcade ones during the ps2 area. Also, I knew that the japan games had more songs from the arcade then the US verson and what not. It seems to me that the games stopped behind like the arcade when they when to the wii/xbox/360. I know I might be a few years behind the games, but this statement is kind ridiculous.

I like how all the new KOs are sounding. o.o Until The End doesn't sound like mainstream pop. It'd be cool if there was more songs like that and On The Night Of A Still Wind and Flight Of The Phoenix. More violins and opera please. OTL
Needs more Opera Rap!

They need to get into the habit of once again using dance remixes/covers of popular songs. Rather than using Missing by Everything But The Girl, they could use the trance version by DISCOVERY. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYNeBFnOw0U)
It'd also be nice for them to throw in a few licenses from DJs like Armin van Buuren and ATB. TENSHI and TIME AFTER TIME were nice additions on X2, and they're definitely not unknown here.

"Naoki answers a few questions regarding DDR II on Facebook" video is now live.
It's basically everything we know about the game (having the most songs put into any US DDR home console system, lots of ties with the arcade version of X2 including songs and characters, etc.)
BUT WITH DAT NAOKI >8E
P.S. we also get to see a bit of the intro to the game.

I am absolutely loving the intro video.
The thing about because-we-aren't-releasing-it-on-other-consoles-we'll-make-this-awesome makes me wonder... if this really is good, I'd almost take one awesome console release over three awful ones even if I couldn't play it. At least they're putting some effort into it.
But only the release itself will probably tell how good this game is.

I really wish they would tell us how we are unlocking things. Hopefully it's not all unlocked from the beginning like an arcade. I want it to have stronger ties to the arcade but I want to work for my unlocks.

Don't worry about that, DDR CS versions from what I recall never had all songs unlocked from the very begining, I'm either thinking there going ot have it like DDR 2010 where you just play any songs you want to unlock the songs/characters. I'm sure they will give us Heartbreak! at the very beginning since thats what they did for HP3 and DDR 2010. A Brighter Day and Let's Get Away where both there from the start.

I wasn't too fond of last years unlocking system. I enjoyed most of the "Master" modes that we had on the PS2 games. The earlier Wii games had some fun unlocking methods in my opinion.

As far as I know DDR and DDR Disney Mix/DS Disney Rave are the only DDR CS games that had all the songs unlocked from the get go. From Konamix onward it was an unlock system of some form or another. I maybe missing others, but those 2 games are off the top of my head.
I was impressed with the Club Mode from DDR 2010. It was kinda like the earlier unlock system where you had to clear 5 songs to unlock something new be it song, character, character alt outfit, etc., although in 2010 you had to clear 10 songs to unlock a new song, so basically you had to work a little harder to unlock and that you're forced to play harder charts as you progress. I've always played

I would LOVE to have the MAX2 unlock system back. I enjoyed just playing songs with no pressure or missions (but that's IMO)

That's essentially what the DDR POINTS system in HP3/HP4 was.

I apologize for looking the other way at HP since it's inception, i feel awful for not paying attention to such wonderful efforts of time, money, and programming

I think it's safe to assume the unlock system will be like HP3+, but there have been many surprises with DDR II...
Exactly how many of you guys resent the HP series?

While we're dreaming, I really liked DDR EXTRME US CS's unlock system, where you had to play 5 songs to unlock something, but if you cleared Mission Mode, you would unlock the songs anyway. It gave us a choice, and that's always nice.
