I think it can be argued that a part of DDR has died, and though it's been revitalized with this new focus on EDM and Touhou instead of Dancemania and anime, it's not the same at all. It's like Zombie Simpsons.
Aside from that, I'm not too concerned as long as it works. And I just want the 猫叉Master, DJ TOTTO, L.E.D.-G, and Musical Cosmology songs already.

@Aegis No.

Every time somebody says 'DDR Is Dead', a random DDR Arcade machine breaks down.

Everytime someone says DDR is alive, a dead machine boots back up again.

All of you had a hand in it.
ALL OF YOU ARE GUILTY IN GOD'S EYES.
Anyway, anybody want to guess on the odds of a European release? I'm still sticking to my original prediction of "slim-to-nil".

My best bet Oni? Depends on how well the US release does and if there are any arcade chains in Europe worth mentioning, since it may be a D&B/Round1 exclusive. Otherwise, keep those r23 cabs up to date.

The count of ITGs in the UK is less than 10, let alone r21/3s. Basically we're shafted.

I only know of 4 in the public, 3 of which are in London, 2 of which are HoG's and therefore not avaiable right now and the other is an ITG2 upgrade in Chapel st leonards that doesnt have usb ports so cant be upgraded and is basically unplayable
We're lucky if we get a working machine full stop anywhere here now let alone a modern mix. There's 3 machines in reasonable distance of me and none of them are playable for completely different reasons (EM2 -> no sound , broken amplifier, Fusion -> Terrible pads, Supernova -> Incredibly quiet, in a loud arcade, no intentions of getting turned up and laggy monitor upgrade)
I am vaguely holding out hope that it'll do really well in America and it'll get a location test at somewhere like a Hollywood bowl and it'll spit out tickets meaning it gets absolutely everywhere...

Okay, I know...I'm posting again in response to bad news...such a negative individual I am, but bare with me. I'm trying to maintain a balanced perspective here. ^^;
Do I believe that DDR is dead? Honestly not when the team is still attempting to be adamant about changes to the game. Do I think that the transition between Dancemania & Anime to Touhou & EDM is destroying DDR? Not entirely either. It seems quite obvious that the DDR crew is taking notes from games like SDVX and BeatStream, both games that seem to be generating a lot of hype within the BEMANI community. Honestly, I've been quite impressed with their push toward those genres, though I believe that I could be largely biased because I like these songs equally just as much as the music from Dancemania & Anime. Obviously, I'd feel vastly different if I disliked EDM & Touhou music, but I can say from my perspective that the transition is rather tolerable.
Really, what my whole gripe right now with DDR is the amount of content being put out there, or well lack there of. For every 10-20 songs that get added to every single BEMANI game not named DDR, we're lucky to even get 2-4 songs every for every other time another BEMANI game gets 10-20 songs. On top of it all, we have phases where DDR removes, NOT adds, about 10-20 songs...and that's what seems to be what we consider an update to the DDR franchise. Yes, other BEMANI games remove licenses, but even games like IIDX more than make it up by saturating the newest title with additional content.
I don't have the right fingers to point in terms of who actually has been backpedaling this franchise as the years go by. I just know that whoever it is, that seems to think games like SDVX and BeatStream are heading in the right direction, needs to go back to note-taking from them. These games aren't just doing well purely because each song has more wubs in them. They put out new content on a consistent and frequent basis. More or less, that's what I expect from DDR at this moment. We can talk about the fate of old song licenses and Konami originals some more, but I feel that we need more incentive to even care about this new DDR game and more content is absolutely needed right now.

I keep forgetting to mention two other neat things that were fixed between 2014 and DDR A.
There is no longer the weird fast/slow bug that happens when there are shock arrows present or when hitting quick double taps like in electro tuned. For example, on 2014 if I hit a Fast perfect and the next arrow was a shock arrow, the shock arrow would be cleared with a "fast" which makes no sense. Same goes for slow. Or when hitting the double taps on fast songs the display will usually show a "fast" for the 2ns arrow even if both were hit with marvelous timing. Like I said, both of these issues were fixed.
Lastly, while playing VS mode, you can now use target score during the round. Before this was impossible. Now if you select target score you can see all the + and - during VS play.
Both of these tweaks are welcomed and enhance the overall experience.
Double Post
I didn't see it mentioned anywhere but there was an update available on Monday. I don't know everything that update had, however, I did notice after receiving the update, one annoy bug was solved. The bug where you can't undo incorrect num pad entries. Now by hitting the left arrow on the machine, it will erase all of the numbers. That's they only odd part. On earlier mixes one hit would erase 1 num but no matter how many digits you put in on DDR A, it will erase all. Hey, better than nothing!
I also think they fixed some bugs with the folders marking if you FCed, PFCed, etc. them, especially in case switching between expert and challenge. That's all for now. I really should update my review from first impression since a lot has changed, hell, I the lag is not nearly as bad as it first was, especially in the case of inputting passcode.

Just pointing this out, Dr.D just got his 100th MFC with Night of Nights
, as seen from his current DDR A stream on Twitch and YouTube.
Derek, you are one hell of a player; both of those achievements are insane, let alone both at the same time.

More to the point that maybe if they made happy mode or an equivalent there of spit out tickets with some form of gamble or something for a big ass jackpot so it barely pays out unless it wants to, and if you don't play happy mode you just get an amount just for playing. It'd be a lot more welcome into arcades over here if it did because as it currently stands I still see little kids stamping on the machine expecting tickets to come out then legitimately complaining to arcade staff when they dont....

What the heck actually changed In DDR A to make it so much easier to MA things, do you think they added an extra frame for marvellous timing? Or is it just so much ore consistent now
I was in japan for the launch but all the timing was messed up on every machine I found, and I couldnt find an SD cab either (since those were apparently alright) I haven't played post timing fixes and I havent been able to figure out exactly what it is that changed.
