People will always complain.
There hasn't been a release without them.

Are the complaints justified for this though? You be the judge.

"Sleep cancelled due to COVID-19."

BEMANI: "We've improved DDR in as many ways as we can think of! We hope you all can enjoy it!"
Fans: "What are the new songs?"
BEMANI: "..."
BEMANI: "Anime stuff, Vocaloid stuff, Touhou liscenses, and one good song from Sota."
Fans: "Give us techno and house music!"
Jax: "And better yet, throw some Eurobeat in."

We got HANDS UP IN THE AIR (It was previewed at the end of DDR 2014, but I count it as a DDR A song), Siberite (same thing), Yeah! Yeah! from CLUB SPICE, which were pretty good.

Plus we got a few Bemani Crossovers, which included Star Trail.

I'd call it a mixed bag, but I'm just waiting patiently for what stuff we get because I think it's too early to call all of the shots yet.

P.S. Does "one good song from Sota" refer to DANCE ALL NIGHT or to New Century?

In my opinion it goes to New Century, DANCE ALL NIGHT DDR EDITION is a fuck of a mess compared to the jubeat version/extended version.

Remember when we used to complain about the American liscenes? We didn't want Lady GaGa, Rihanna or Ne Yo on our DDR.
Except that the songs were not bad and actually listenable....
Also, at least most of the songs that they picked for this game are not denpa. Touhou isn't too horrible, I liked Grip and Break Down, Bad Apple and Nights of Knights. If they did chose something like Nanahira or Prim, (which they did....), then I would complain as well.

As much as I hated having Ice Ice Baby on X2 because I thought a song like that should never ever belong in a DDR game, I noticed that at the X2 near me, around 90% of the casuals who played a round picked that song. So, while I want to complain about the American licenses, they definitely are what make casual players want to spend money on the game.

It's just the same thing here, except having songs that cater to a casual Japanese audience rather than US audience. Konami's just following the trend of putting in songs which an average person would want to play, and this is what makes them the bulk of their profit. And honestly, while the stuff they have put in DDR A so far leans towards the anime/vocaloid/touhou stuff that attracts casuals, they're still putting out other content like New Century and KOs like Dance All Night / siberite that I'm happy about. Plus, some of the licenses that they ARE putting in, such as Night of Knights, are pretty badass imo and they even gave a licensed song a 15 chart (放課後ストライド was a nice 14 as well). So, they still care about us, but they just have to make the initial DDR A release attractive to casuals as well. I have a feeling we'll get some very nice content down the road.

It'd be real nice if this thread didn't just turn into a bunch of people expressing what THEY want in the game
there's speculation during a lull, and then there's this

Isn't there a BEMANI wishlist thread buried somewhere in the site?

I mean, gonna be honest, this website is pretty much a silent minority on the opinion of denpa music in the Bemani games from what I see everywhere else. There's also the fact that most denpa/Nanahira music are some of the easiest and most fun to chart for a majority of rhythm games due to the nature of the genre itself.

Quoting this, and not because "hurr durr Quickman is rude and mean", but because Konami does not lurk these forums and look for song suggestions.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

At least were getting songs in less than a month.
I dislike Hinabutt, thoguh I do understand the appeal. At least DDR A has a more balanced songlist at the start. DDR 2014 was literally plain idol songs at the start and it was horrendous.

As long as there is no oversaturation, then I am OK with the j-pop.

The step charts for the latest three songs are really, really great. They look like tons of fun. Songs are all right, the vocaloid one is terrible as always but the other two are not bad!

I would hope we have a more balanced songlist, because that bar was not exactly high

On a more serious note, I'm so far mostly satisfied with the songlist; while I don't really care that much for the licence songs (I tend to avoid starting controversies if possible), we got a few good charts, the Konami Originals (which is what I look more at) were cool, if somewhat generic (though I still like siberite, this captain king guy is pretty good), and we got some decent bemani crossovers, and even a cool extra stage. Decent enough to start with, and I hope for the song list to get better!

I can name quite a few charts without crossovers and they don't force double stepping either.
Holic Heavy
I'm so Happy Challenge
FLOWER Challenge
era(nostalmix) Heavy
Himawari Heavy
GAIA Heavy

Oh, so to avoid awkward double stepping you also need to avoid crossovers? No, not necessarily. Even high level charts (especially in 2013) have been really well stepped. Here's just a few:
Magnetic Heavy
Another Phase Heavy
Beautiful Dream Challenge
FUNKY SUMMER BEACH Heavy

Here's some more.

SO DEEP Heavy
FLASH IN THE NIGHT Heavy (crossovers)
KICK THE CAN Heavy
SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW Heavy
FOLLOW THE SUN (90 IN THE SHADE MIX) Heavy* (crossovers)
DIVE TO THEN NIGHT Heavy
MOVIN ON (Extended Moon Mix) Heavy (crossovers)
THE 7 JUMP Heavy (crossovers)
siberite Heavy (DDR A)

Backwards facing sections can be avoided on these by footswitching;

MY GENERATION (Fat Beat Mix) Heavy (once)
HERO Heavy (twice)

*This one is a maybe. None of the single arrows have you face backwards, but there are some rather odd jumps that could culminate in backwards facing sections such as a LDR crossover 8th stream and then a LR jump a beat after (and doing the jump backwards is not the intention). It's possible to jump and land on the LR jump correctly but it's a bit strange.
