Remember back in DDR 2013/2014 we would MAYBE get one new song a month? Just be happy it's not 20 HinaBitter♪ songs.
... And i don't want to return to this grim days anymore, it was awful.
Really some guys are complaining too much about the new songs, we haven't seen the charts either. Just face it: Dancemania is dead (in some ways), and this songs are the main trend in most music games in Japan (not only in Bemani games), and some of them are really good.
Speaking about the teased songs, i really like 放課後ストライド ... well, almost all the Last note for me are really fun to hear and play (like setsuna trip). Maybe 色は匂へど散りぬるを is gonna be bland for the style of the song, but let's see how they gonna create the chart.

I'd gladly take the 20 HinaBitter songs over those three new licenses, to be honest. And it's not that I'm against VOCALOID - I happen to like a handful of songs featuring them, but I just don't like the choices this time (and Iro wa is bland). At least I hope that they will get decent charts... and that we get more new content rather soon.

Are you implying that either DDR X2 or 2014 are particularly bad? Both have great songs, and 2014 still has around the same amount of good songs that X2 has, just with more meh songs inbetween.
If it wasn't clear, I was implying X2 was great (nice mix of great originals + nice crossovers + the hype-generator RDA), and that DDR 2014 was sub-par.
I'll be honest, I actually really liked DDR 2014, but that was only because I didn't keep up for most of its life-cycle; I mostly came in and out, meaning I saw the good stuff and then missed the meh stuff.
It had some great stuff; it just needed to have a life cycle that didn't involve as many meh songs and it would've been great. Say what you want about it's licensing (less said about that, the better), but I actually find the Replicant D-Ignition stuff, at least now that I can play it on my Stepmania set-up really fun.
Plus some of other stuff like AETHER was pretty good too. DDR 2014 had memorable moments; they were just dragged out wa(aaaaa)y too long.
But I don't intend to dwell on what older mixes did wrong in the past, I want to look forward to what this mix can do well.
So far:
-Interface is pretty neat, though that's divisive I hear
-I like the new grading system, + and - is really nice, plus while devaluing AA's kinda sucks this change will probably stop making it so that I can play my best and then still get like a D or C because damn timing (I don't have a super-consistent step)
-20-odd songs to start meaning we already have a taste of what our content's like
-Holy hell a license song got a 15-foot
-New originals are pretty good, not amazing but pretty good
-New Century is cool, I guess, though holy hell it's a 17 on

For the start of a brand new mix, that's kind of a low amount, especially when you consider that a few of those songs debuted on 2014. It would almost be understandable if this was just a software update like 2014 was for 2013, but this is supposed to be something new. (For reference, X3 and 2013 both had around 40 songs to start counting default unlocks.)[...]

I wish we got a DDR game where the crossovers aren't what make it great.
Ooh! Like Extreme, right?? All those brand new songs and not crossovers???
except that Extreme only had 14 new originals including boss songs and EuroMIX2 stuff, 9 licenses, and 38 crossovers

You do know what they say about assuming things, right?* Aegis isn't one of those who considers EXTREME the best, we were discussing it recently.

Nah, the song by NOMA from SDVX II. I would like if there were more SDVX crossovers. Not counting the Gumi songs added in DDR 2014, Ha-lle-lu-jah is the first ever SDVX song to be crossed over into DDR.

I come here after a day seeing new posts in the double digits like "wowzers maybe there was some news" and it's just people complaining.
... admittedly, yes, it would be a boring forum otherwise but sheesh.
Exaggerations everywhere.
The update was sort of underwhelming, mainly because some of the licenses have already been in other Bemani games. Happy Synrthesizer, in particular for me, was in DanEvo like yyyear(s)? ago? It was played to death by the time it was even in DanEvo. But it's not a bad song.
I was hyped was back when Night of Nights was added. Even though the song is crusty old it's like hggnnnggg one of my favorite crusty old Tohou remixes.
I think putting all these overplayed songs is honestly a step in the right marketing direction. New people can go on there and actually pick stuff they know instead of being (potentially) turned off by not knowing what in the world to pick. It would be cool, in an ideal world, to add newer popular songs, but that stuff's expensive. And it's not like they never add recent songs.

This worries me a little. I mean, THAT close to an MFC on a 15?! Even if it's an easy one an MFC on a 14 would still be a big deal. Last I heard the hardest song MFC'd was a 13-footer. Did the update seriously make the syncing THAT much more accurate? Or did they increase the timing windows? Some say the marvelous window now feels like 1.5 frames instead of one. Perhaps it's just that syncing was adjusted to have arrows be dead center and that is why it feels like that. I know lots of songs always felt like you had to step a slight bit later or earlier than the beat to get Marvelous. I really hope that's the case, and it's still 16 ms for marvelous, 33 for perfect, etc... I don't want there to be a whole ordeal about how scores on DDR A don't count or something like that.

Two 14s have been MFC'd - Trip Machine Climax X-Special and Adularia.
There was a thread a while back that I created before DDR A about why MFCs were much easier at "magic bpms" (120, 150, 180, 200, 225). What we concluded was MAing songs with those bpms was easier due to the fact that those specific bpms caused the number of frames in each individual beat to be exactly the same, so the marvelous window always fell directly in the same spot on each beat. Meanwhile, a song that did not have that bpm could have the marvelous window shift one frame to the left or right between beats just due to the fact that the way the game runs is frame-based (specifically, if [60 frames per second] / [# of beats per second] was an integer number, the number of frames in each beat would be the same and that bpm would be considered a "magic" bpm where it was easier to MA).
I suspect that perhaps now, they have fundamentally changed something about this frame-based structure, so now the marvelous window falls in the same place in each beat for EVERY bpm. This is just a theory, though.

On to the topic of the update, wasn't it a thing in 2014 to just include a few songs in each update besides RDI? I don't understand why people are complaining, especially when most of us (probably) can't even play the bloody game for a while. People should stop getting upset about the same update trends that nobody complained about before and instead be more excited that (unless they decided to torture themselves with shoddy US X cabinets) they're getting at least 291 new songs (X-A excluding licenses). I don't know about you guys, but I think that's pretty damn good.
