If I can recall, the number was from the Japanese sayings of 573, 5 = go sounded like "ko". 7 is nana I think & was shortened to "na" & 3 is mittsu & shortened to "mi" Hence 573 = Konami

You got it right. Which is why Konami uses 573 on their arcade machines' default high scores. Namco does the same thing, except with 765 (7=NA, 6=MU (from Muttsu), 5=KO). It's all a play on words.
