So I found out that people actually buy Unusual hats in TF2 for actual money (all that unusual hats are hats with a gif animation on it) and they sell for high amount of money.
Remind me whenever I find one, sell it.

Okay I think that's taking hats a little too seriously. As you said it's just a gif image strapped to a hat. If I got one, awesome, but if I don't well it doesn't really matter to me. Just getting a hat is awesome.
Speaking of which, I used my stocking stuffer key to open my festive crate and got the Coupe D'istater. It's not bad, but I have the Officers Ushanka already. I have two other classes that have 2 hats for themselves and some have none (excluding the all class items that is).

I don't get what the big deal about hats is. All they are are pixels (and some coding). But the same could be said about weapons... they're just more useful pixels (and coding).

KKiONI: I used mine on the first day, got a Larkkin Robin out of it. I still use it today though since its probably my favorite out of all of them so far. For some reason I keep on getting hats from trades that I don't even like or use. First started with the Demoman Fro-Raincatcher-now Stout Shako.
