Z-I-v Simfile Shuffle 2015 — thank you for playing!

I'm confused.

I got this song. And I'm like - omg it's so awful - no beat, no anything to manage steps at least in decent way. So I decided to google where did it come from and I stumble upon this...



Did I get some remix version that... removes beat? If it is true... then why there isn't any indication that this is remix? And also, if we are talking about remixes - there are many... and they would fit StepMania so much better.

This is wasted opportunity, if tackled well it could provide nice simming material... but this? Also due to 128kbps (or even lower) quality this sounded like early 90s song (and apparently it comes from 2003).

So I tried to step Skytoucher earlier today and... yeah, it's probably not gonna happen. There's just something about this song that's giving me a huge mindblock on how to step it (the fact that the last 1/3 of the cut is very unsteppable isn't helping either). I actually did enjoy listening to the song, just that stepping it is a huge chore and I don't think I'm even up to doing it.

I know how you feel, Gameoson. This Vocaloid tune (I believe it is judging by the vocals) "Unlucky girl-chan no Nichiroku", I...can't, I can't come up with anything good for this. I'm finding myself doing other stuff such as composing music (FL Studio 11) and playing with these instead of working on this simfile because there's no motivation. It just sounds the same the whole way through, with very little ornaments, unless I do karaoke stepping, which...might go south really quickly. Every other song I've gotten (even the songs I veto'd) had at least one change in structure, but this one just feels like it'll be the same the whole way through. It sucks because I want to send in a file for all 12 rounds, but I don't think I'll be able to get this one. Even if I stuck with the songs I veto'd back in November, I'm certain I would have used them up on other songs anyway at this point. I'd like to apologize to the submitter if I can't get it. :/ At least I managed to have some sort of love with LOVE CLUTCH's steps.

I took a listen to Skytouch, and I think what MIGHT help is cut off the unnecessary section (similar to what Lisek did for Black Light Machine) and use gimmicks. This sounds sort of similar to Retro City, just without the 110 BPM change. It doesn't seem melodically interesting (as in chord progression and such), so my small pitch relevancy technique I developed in Flowlight wouldn't work, but at least the beat and rhythm seem like it could be better to step.

That's just my opinion, though.

And it looks like Lisek got a short straw too... yikes. Though, the "no beat" part technically isn't true, there IS one... It's just the lesser powerful one.

For the record, Go! Go! Sega Rally is also repetitive... and short. Doesn't stop me from stepping it. Neither of you have vetoes, so it's either skip or step. Might as well step, see what happens, and move on to ROUND L.

Speaking of ROUND L... it's not going to be an original. The one I want to submit has unfixable and abysmal audio quality.
I have an idea in mind. Something universally steppable, that I made a file for a couple months ago, but had doublesteps out the max.
(Edit @Cuzco- I add freezes and force them, but this song could get better steps in general than what I did with it.

A really easy way to iron out double steps is find the problematic area and either start switching ups and downs or lefts and rights. Then determine where you want to place crossovers or make the player face a different direction and repeat the iron out process.

Doublesteps can be used tastefully, however, I myself haven't figured out how to pull that off, so I just avoid them altogether.

Lol, I wish I had the time during the week to work on simfile stuff on a regular basis. Homework takes up a lot of my weekday time; I feel like I'm never entirely free from it.
I've been meaning to ask how some of you get your votes in so early in a regular basis (especially those I presume to be middle/high school age). I guess I'm going off the assumption that all kids my age go to some sort of school when I ask this. (Aren't you guys bombarded with homework, like I am?)

I get this is somewhat off-topic but I'm curious to see strategies and other responses.

@mf32892- Which is why being first is an accomplishment worth noting. It's mostly due to the song being extra short and much easier than my average files. As for votes? I play the available files on the weekend, and anything that's added on Monday I wrap up when I can. Not too difficult.

I'm a senior and only have 5 classes with one of them being a zero period class so I get home at around 1 PM. And thankfully my classes this year have been generous with homework (even the AP class I'm taking) so I have lots a free time.

I don't have school. It's just a matter of getting motivated enough to work on my simfile, which I almost ALWAYS manage to get done within a week, whether it's in the first half of the week or (more commonly) the second half. I'm considering sitting this week out, though, purely because of the song selection, but maybe I'll surprise you guys.
