I would ask Aaron about the marketing of DDR in Japan. I'm pretty sure Konami as a whole holds "fun" at a higher esteem than the skill aspect.

Having lived in Japan for a period of time I'm pretty sure skill and strategy IS their definition of fun. The problem with the American mentality is that too many people think that any kind of difficulty, any kind of learning curve takes all the fun away from something.

Look at how they're actually playing the game properly!

And thanks for that, I didn't realize 2ndReMIX actually had a TV commercial.

Meh, they should seriously consider using actual DDR players and market it as the "rave party" style game of yore. The commercial shows the players obviously just screwing around, not even hitting the arrows.
Is why I dislike the commercial... portraying DDR as a game where you screw around without regard for the arrows is like... offensive to hardcore players, for dire lack of a better word. :\
Funny, though, I know a married couple that met playing DDR...

It's not a terrible commercial, it's just... inaccurate, I guess. I'm all for freestyle and having fun; just, you know, if you're going to advertise DDR, put enough of the DDR aspect into it. I love the idea of saying DDR is a social game, but it's not really saying DDR is a social game. It looked more like Dance Central or something full-body without hitting arrows.

After watching the Mario one, I have to ask, why the fudge don't we have Asian men playing DDR while swooshing their awesome hair on our commercials? *shot*
'Course, even they weren't hitting all the all the arrows, but at least they showed the game.

"DDR-ing regularly again!~"
The only commercial I ever saw for DDR was for Mario Mix and some kid challenged a security guard to a dance off. I've never seen any of the other games advertised on TV. I do hope that the 2011 commercial is aired on TV though, I really liked it.

Millions of dollars are needed to have airtime for a commercial. DDR is sloooooowly dying in the US. Konami don't want to risk it too much, though they did the trailer in the first place.

But if they want to compete against Just Dance, I think they should air it.

Edit: I realized "Millions of dollars" is a lot of money...

"On ZiV I'm like Princess Diana"
Millions of dollars? Not likely. That might be the kind of money companies would need to throw down to air a Superbowl commercial, but there are many other alternatives to something that major. The commercial I saw for X2/HP3 aired at about 10PM on TBS as it was showing re-runs of Everybody Loves Raymond, something that probably cost them somewhere north of $10,000.

Of course, you have to wonder just how effective television commercials are anymore, especially for video games. Let's face it, Americans (especially those 15-29, the key demo for video game sales) are spending less time in front of the TV and more time on the internet. This opens a lot more low-cost opportunities for advertisement. Just look at the DDR Facebook Page. It's currently enjoying almost 200,000 fans. Not only is that free advertising to 200,000 people but those 200,000 people are already interested in DDR, so it's not like a television commercial where 90% of it falls on uninterested ears.

I'm sure kids' channels are still the perfect place to advertise games. You have a captive audience who are likely to sit there and watch whatever happens to be on, rather than specifically DVR one show, and skip the commercials.

Plus, y'know, kids love the Wii.

Perhaps. But then again, Konami is already getting a lot of free publicity to kids as DDR is added to more and more school curriculums across the country.

They almost need to advertise on Hulu, only because I'm tired of car, insurance, and car insurance commercials when watching anime. And pretty much all five commercials that seem to repeat over and over. No idea how that works, though... but it gets to the people who realize cable is overpriced and don't watch it, anyway. And anime and games go together, don't they...? At least more than baby food and anime... blasted weird commercials. >_>

Maybe video game news just doesn't travel via TV anymore, period, and they're onto that. *shrug*

U1 just replied to my question I posted on his wall asking if every song on DDR II will have a long version. He confirmed that not all songs will have a full version available for play.

I just wonder about 80+ songs.

Does the 80+ songs = total songlist without DLC content ?

The following songs make up the Replicant D-Action folder on the arcade version of DDR X2 (note that this does NOT necessarily mean that they will all show up)

Sakura Sunrise / Ryu☆
Pierce the Sky / JAKAZiD feat. K.N.
Shiny World / CAPACITY GATE
POSSESSION / TAG underground
New Decade / Sota F.
Anti-Matter / Orbit1 & Milo
Valkyrie dimension / Spriggan

You can find all these songs in the Zenius simfile database.

What the hell does this image mean to the majority of the people who will end up buying this game? Probably nothing. Replicant D-action is the Extra Stage system on DDR X2. You have to choose to enter it at the end of your game (should you qualify to access it at all) and once you do there's no turning back. As time goes on and you rack up more points on your eAmuse card you get access to more of the songs inside. These songs represent the hardest stepcharts in the game and the biggest challenges. POSSESSION is one of those songs and this picture alludes to the possibility of it and the rest of the RDA songs making an appearance on DDR II. So seasoned players, and those in the know are excited about this image because of what could mean.

Oh...so, so basically it's a folder for boss songs or very hard songs then? 8D; Sounds neat then!

Ooh, about that commercial...I know it's probably from DDR 2010, but still...
http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z183/Fairy-red-hime/51e1ff40.png

That looks like Harmony. @A@ I can be just a tiny bit more hopeful that the HP characters can share the stage with the X2 characters. ...just a tiny bit. ._.;

Also about that space after Expert! It would be cool if there was a Challenge difficulty! If it's not like Horatio, and if there's no shock arrows, I really hope there IS some kind of Challenge in DDR II! Won't get too excited, but still...
